A Bid to Smuggle Arms from Lebanon to Syria Foiled
by Al-Ibrahim, IMRA
BEIRUT, (SANA) – The Lebanese citizens of ' al-Hisha' village in the Lebanese 'Wadi Khalid' region near the borders with Syria have foiled a bid to smuggle war weapons from Lebanon to Syria, Mohamad Durgham, the Mukhtar (mayor) of the village stated.
The Lebanese 'Al-Akhbar' Daily issued Tuesday quoted Durgham as saying that the citizens of the village carry out surveillance operations as to control the borders with Syria because the concerned Lebanese security forces linger to carry out their responsibilities.
Earlier today, former Lebanese President, Emile Lahoud, issued a statement asserting that Syria is stronger than the conspiracy and that the created security events in Syria aim to destabilize it and distance it from resistance against the Israeli schemes of hegemony and dismemberment.
President Lahoud added that the reaction of the Syrian Leadership and People in confronting the armed criminal groups prove that the leadership and the people stand firm in the same trench against the conspiracies of destruction and sedition.
President Lahoud highly appreciated the huge positive interaction between President Bashar al-Assad, who has been completing reform measures, and the Syrians who put their trust in him and support him in recognition of the stability Syria enjoys, economic rise and the modernization of infrastructure.
