Chinese Waiter’s Lawsuit Shuts Down Bail Fund That Freed His Shooter - Daniel Greenfield

by Daniel Greenfield

Six days after he was freed, he shot a waiter 11 times.

The proliferation of pro-crime bail funds that seek to free criminals in states and municipalities that haven’t followed New York’s footsteps in eliminating bail has led to a lot of misery and suffering.

But then one man did something about it.

He stood up and fought back against the millionaire pro-crime lobby responsible. And he won a partial victory.

This is a David vs. Goliath story. The media would love if it weren’t Goliath. That’s one reason this is hardly getting any coverage.

The Bail Project posted a $3,000 bond for Rashawn Gaston-Anderson in December of 2021. Six days later, he opened fire on a restaurant worker in Chinatown and shot him 11 times.

The victim, Chengyan Wang filed a lawsuit against Gaston-Anderson, the shopping plaza where the near-fatal shooting occurred, and The Bail Project in September. The lawsuit refers to Gaston-Anderson’s criminal history and how still, The Bail Project posted his bond.

Prosecutors detailed a timeline of court records. In November of 2021, Anderson was arrested for pandering and carrying a concealed weapon. He was released without having to pay bail and was ordered to stay out of trouble. The next day, he was arrested again for burglary and theft. The Bail Project later posted the $3000 bond.

Six days after that, Anderson opened fire on Wang.

The Bail Project states that its mission is to disrupt the cash bail system which disproportionately affects the low-income and people of color.

I’m going to speculate that Wang is a person of color and that he’s not working as a waiter because he’s flush with cash.

Now, entirely by coincidence, the pro-crime project is no longer operating in Vegas.

A bail reform group, backed by celebrities including Danny Glover, John Legend and Richard Branson, has shut down its Las Vegas chapter after helping to release a man who went on to shoot and nearly kill a Las Vegas waiter.

Wang is now suing The Bail Project, which denies that the closure was related to the lawsuit.

“The Bail Project closed its Vegas branch earlier this month but it had nothing to do with the litigation,” a spokesperson for the organization said in a statement to Deadline. “As an advocacy organization that is also a service provider, The Bail Project seeks to maximize the number of people we can help annually with our limited resources. We monitor the volume of people served by our local sites and periodically reassess the allocation of staff and bail capital across the country accordingly. As part of this ongoing recalibration, we closed our site in Vegas earlier this month.”

I haven’t seen this much meaningless gibberish since I watched a Biden speech.

There’s no mention here of the Bail Project actually writing Wang a check who instead seems to be relying on a GoFundMe. His lawyer should sue John Legend and his harridan wife, who were recently at a Biden state dinner, Glover and Branson, who certainly has plenty of cash to spare.

There are potentially other legal issues for the pro-crime fund in Nevada.

“The Bail Project reportedly violated the law by not registering with the Nevada Division of Insurance.”

Unfortunately, Nevada AG Aaron D. Ford isn’t about to enforce the law on his own criminal faction.
