The self-described "Muslim anarchist" is "really proud" of his anti-Israel students.

Mohamed Abdou is an “Islamic scholar” who is lost in admiration for Hamas, and how it managed to launch its “stealth” attack on October 7. What most of the world sees as unspeakable atrocities, with Hamas operatives beheading babies, burning children alive, raping, torturing, mutilating, and murdering Israeli girls, cutting the breasts off women and using them to play catch, cutting off the genitalia and gouging out the eyes of men, murdering children in front of their parents and parents in front of their children, Mohamed Abdou sees as glorious deeds of derring-do, by a greatly outnumbered force of brave Muslim warriors, and he wants the whole world to know it.
Abdou is now teaching at Columbia, where he was appointed as that appetizing thing, a visiting professor, for the Spring Term. He’s already in his third month of teaching, no doubt singing the praises of Hamas in a lecture hall on Morningside Heights to a captive audience of entranced undergraduates. Why, if he performs to the satisfaction of Rashid Khalidi, Joseph Massad, and Hamid Dabashi, three other admirers of Hamas on the permanent faculty at Columbia, he may even be made an offer for a permanent appointment to the Middle East Institute.
Robert Spencer wrote briefly about Abdou here, and more on this man, the latest moral monster to slither through the underbrush on Morningside Heights can be found here: “He Endorsed Hamas, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. Then He Landed a Professorship at Columbia University.” By Jessica Costescu, Washington Free Beacon, February 27, 2024:
During a Jan. 5 interview with socialist podcast Revolutionary Left Radio, Islamic scholar Mohamed Abdou declared his support for Hamas and “the resistance.” The terror group’s “dedicated few,” he said admiringly, worked in “stealth mode” on Oct. 7 to defeat a “larger enemy” in Israel….
It wasn’t a “dedicated few” who swooped into Israel to rape, torture, and murder unarmed civilians both at the Nova dance party and at nearly two dozen kibbutzim where people were just waking up by the dawn’s early light, only to find 3,000 well-armed and fanatical killers arriving on motorcycles, pick-up trucks, and paragliders, determined to rape, torture, and murder as many innocent Israelis as they could find at the just-ended Nova dance party and at more than 20 kibbutzim. There were also members of Israel’s security services who died on that day, including several dozen unarmed soldiers guarding the border with Gaza, 58 police, 10 members of the Shin Bet, and about 250 other soldiers, killed as they tried to repel the Hamas invaders. In the fighting that day, those Israelis managed to kill 1,500 Hamas operatives, or half of those who had initially invaded. Mohamed Abdou wants us to think that those Hamas combatants fought a “larger enemy,” but in fact the total number of Israeli security forces involved in fighting the invaders on October 7 was about 300, that is, one-tenth the size of the invading force of 3,000.
Abdou teaches a weekly class on “Decolonial-Queerness & Abolition,” where his students discuss “transnational feminist discourses” and “queer of color critiques.” The self-described “Muslim anarchist” has also emerged as a friend to Columbia’s anti-Israel community. In a Feb. 11 social media post, Abdou revealed that he organized a protest in which Columbia students interrupted a panel featuring Hillary Clinton. One demonstrator called the former secretary of state a “war criminal” who “will burn” before chanting, “Free, free Palestine.”
“Really proud of these students & deeply honoured to have been a part of organising this,” Abdou wrote.
So he thinks the organising of an anti-Israel protest on campus is an accomplishment? After all, he’s “really proud of these students” who took part. Why is he “really proud”? Did they risk anything? Not at all. It’s the easiest thing in the world. Hold up a Palestinian flag in the middle of the quad — any quad, on any campus, from sea to shining sea, and watch as the keffiyeh-clad students come running from every dormitory room and classroom to yell and scream about Intifada Now! and Genocidal Jews, and that old-standby “From the river to the sea/Palestine will be free.”
Columbia’s embrace of Abdou reflects what some Jewish students have described as a “severe and pervasive antisemitic hostile educational environment” seen on the school’s campus in the wake of Oct. 7.
Oh, those thin-skinned Jews, always moaning about antisemitism. What’s antisemitic about praising to the skies the Hamas “fighters” who gang-raped, tortured, mutilated and murdered 1,200 people just because they were Jews?
