According to the Middle East Forum’s report, El-Sayed’s campaign operated an exhibitor booth inside the convention hall, where campaign workers promoted his candidacy, solicited donations and recruited volunteers.
Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, is asking the Internal Revenue Service to investigate whether the Islamic Society of North America violated federal rules governing tax-exempt organizations by reportedly allowing campaign activity for Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed at its annual convention.
Self sent a letter Wednesday to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, citing a report from the Middle East Forum about El-Sayed’s appearance at the 63rd annual ISNA Convention in Detroit earlier this month.
