The soldiers were approximately 60 and 20 years old, Magen David Adom said.
A Jordanian humanitarian aid truck driver killed two Israeli soldiers who were coordinating humanitarian aid at the Allenby Crossing on the Jordanian border on Thursday, defense sources told The Jerusalem Post.
The IDF identified the soldiers who were killed as Lieutenant-Colonel (res.) Yitzhak Harosh, 68, from Jerusalem, and Sergeant Oran Hershko, 20, from Tel Mond.
Lt.-Col. (res.) Harosh served as an officer in the 309th Reserve Unit of the Civil Administration. Sgt. Hershko served as a liaison officer for foreign forces in the Tevel Brigade.
At least one suspected terrorist was killed; however, there may have been an additional accomplice, the sources told the Post.
Large numbers of troops are conducting searches at the scene, including Duvdevan reservists, YATAM troops, and forces from Battalion 47, the source said.
As soon as he entered the Israeli side of the crossing, he began carrying out the attack. He opened fire before reaching the inspection area, first exiting his truck, firing at all the people in the area, and then stabbing them.
An Allenby Crossing security guard, shortly after arriving at the scene, killed the attacker.
The IDF decided, following the attack, to halt aid entering Gaza from Jordan until all investigations into the attack are completed, Army Radio said.
The other routes for bringing humanitarian aid into Gaza will continue as usual.
About 2,000 aid trucks enter Gaza every week in total, but only about 150 of them come through the Allenby Crossing from Jordan, Army Radio said, citing security officials.
The Allenby Bridge is a crucial crossing for trade between Jordan and Israel.
Last September, shooting attack at same crossing kills three
Last September, a shooting attack killed three at the same crossing.Security forces killed the terrorist who had approached the area in a truck from the Jordanian side of the border, got out, and opened fire at the security forces, the IDF said.
Maher Al Jazi, a 39-year-old Jordanian citizen who worked as a truck driver, was later identified as the terrorist who carried out that terror attack, according to Israeli media reports.
This is a developing story.
