How they have invaded American minds.

On the Rotunda of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington is inscribed these words: “I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” This statement by Thomas Jefferson is the heart of the democracy in whose founding he played so central a role. It is why the First Amendment of the Bill of Rights is the First Amendment and not the Second, or Fourth, or Fifth.
Today our nation is facing the most serious threat to establish such a tyranny in our entire history. This threat comes from the political left, which deceptively calls its reactionary creed “progressive.” Its tyranny is advanced under the Orwellian names, “political correctness,” “cancel culture,” “wokeness” and “anti-racism,” which is a recently minted doctrine that condemns every deviation from the leftwing party line as “racist” and therefore worthy of suppression.
The gravity of this attempt to abolish our democracy can be seen in the attack on America’s founding – an attack led by America’s intellectual establishment. Under the rubric of “The 1619 Project,” The New York Times, the Pulitzer and MacArthur Foundations and other arbiters of the culture have promoted the monstrous libel that America was founded as slave state and that the American revolution was designed to preserve this hateful institution which had survived in countries all over the world for 3,000 years.
The problem with the libel begins with the date. In 1619, the founding of America was 168 years in the future and the Virginia Colony to which 20 Africans had been shipped was English not American, and in fact outlawed slavery. The 20 Africans who arrived in Jamestown were like most of the mainly white labor force not slaves but indentured servants which meant they would be free in 5 to 7 years depending on their contracts. Like every black slave shipped to the North American continent over the next 200 years, their servitude was created by black Africans, who sold them at auctions in Ghana and Benin. It was Thomas Jefferson, and white America, who created a nation that proclaimed in its birth certificate the God-given right of all people - regardless of race - to liberty.
This truth is a mortal threat to the left’s plan to demonize America as a “white supremacist” nation and generate enough hate to destroy its democracy. The left’s attack on America’s monuments, including monuments to America’s liberators, Jefferson and Lincoln, was a parallel attempt to erase the reality of America’s creation, but one that failed. It failed thanks to President Trump and the American patriots who support him and who battled the destroyers in the streets.
But this fight is not only far from over, it is just beginning. Thanks to the corruption of America’s schools and media by the anti-American left, this attempt to erase America’s reality in order to destroy America’s democracy has succeeded to an alarming extent inside the minds of its citizens. An instructive case is provided by Stan Van Gundy, a college-educated basketball coach who like other members of the National Basketball Association has been swept up in the poisonous manias of the anti-America left. In a tweet this week, Van Gundy responded to critics of the NBA for endorsing political demonstrations against America while maintaining a $4 billion partnership with the Communist China, whose dictators have incarcerated 2 million Muslims in concentration camps where they are used as slave laborers and providers of body parts to profiteers in the regime.
Gundy’s response to these criticisms was the following: “We committed genocide against Native Americans. We have enslaved, lynched, segregated and incarcerated blacks over 400 years…. Using abuses elsewhere to try to distract from our own poor record on human rights is dishonest.”
These are disgusting slanders, which Van Gundy has picked up from the America-hating left. There are more Indians alive today than there were when the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. There was hardly a single Indian-settler war where Indian tribes were not allied to the settlers to protect themselves from tribal enemies. There was never a U.S. government plan to exterminate Indians because they were Indians – which is what “genocide” means.
Van Gundy could have refuted his own slander by consulting Wikipedia, in other words by referring to information only seconds away: “The United States Constitution specifically mentions American Indians three times. ... The idea that tribes have an inherent right to govern themselves is at the foundation of their constitutional status – the power is not delegated by congressional acts.” Hardly a prescription for genocide. Indians today have the rights of American citizens. They can live in America or on 56.2 million acres held in trust by the United States for various Indian tribes and individuals. The federal government provides $20 billion a year in funding to help the tribes.
When Gundy invokes the left’s “400 years of slavery,” or “slavery and oppression” he is merely repeating the racist slander that all whites think alike. Four hundred years ago it was 1620, the year the Pilgrims landed and established an English colony. Of course if all whites think alike, then it would be fair to conflate English racism with American racism. But American revolutionaries did not think like their English rulers who established the North American slave trade.
From the founding of the United States of America in 1787 to the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 is 76 years not 400. We are in the 243rd year of our republic, so even adding segregation and “oppression” doesn’t save this lie from what it is – an expression of hate.
Segregation, moreover, was confined to the American South. Without the financial, moral and political support of white America there would have been no civil rights movement. Obliterating the unprecedented social revolution in America – a revolution that has not taken place in Africa where slavery still exists today – is offensive beyond words. To imply that black Americans are incarcerated en masse for their skin color is equally horrific, as it flies in the face of every available statistic about the relationship between black crime – mainly targeted against other blacks – and black imprisonment. Black Lives Matter’s call to abolish prisons is tantamount to a declaration of war against all the black victims present and potential of black criminals.
When compared to other countries – Communist China first among them – America’s record on human rights is remarkable, admirable, and has been an inspiration to the rest of the world. The attack of leftists and ignoramuses like Van Gundy on America’s founding and achievement is a service to every human rights destroying movement - beginning with communism but including Islamic totalitarianism and Black Lives Matter fascism that threatens freedom-loving people in this country and around the world.
