Twenty eight people were killed in the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, while the IDF estimated that it could have been hundreds.
Five people were killed, and at least 20 were wounded in Beersheba as sirens sounded across Israel as part of three large ballistic missile salvos from Iran between 4:45 a.m. to 7:10 a.m. Israel time.
Two ballistic missiles were fired at Beersheba out of the around 20 missiles total fired at several regions.
One of the two missiles was shot down, while the other struck a residential building.
The IDF is probing why it missed the second missile.
Those killed in Beersheba were killed by a direct hit on a wall very close to their safe rooms, which managed to destroy the rooms.
Of the 28 Israelis killed by Iranian missiles, only these five and two more from Petah Tikva earlier in the conflict were killed in safe rooms, and IDF estimates are that dozens or hundreds more could have been killed if they had not been in safe rooms.
IDF expected hundreds of civilian deaths
The IDF said it had expected hundreds of civilian deaths in the event of a war with Iran.Senior IDF Home Front officials said that there could be a lifting of restrictions for movement, jobs, and schools nationwide due to the ceasefire, but that the situation was still being evaluated.
At least two of the wounded were rushed to Soroka Hospital in moderate condition, with six being lightly wounded, Magen David Adom (MDA) reported.
MDA said that a majority of the injuries are cuts, wounds to limbs, and symptoms of anxiety.
Three people sheltering on the fourth floor of a building were rescued from the rubble in Beersheba, MDA said. A seven-story apartment building in Beersheba sustained damage from the missile attack.
Israel's Fire and Rescue Authority stated that only one person was listed as missing, and the search for them is currently ongoing. "We emphasize again—do not enter the scene! The arrival of civilians endangers public safety and makes it difficult for rescue forces to operate."
Fire and rescue services said that shrapnel fell at Ben-Gurion Airport. At least one person was wounded in the North by shrapnel.
In the North, MDA said that it had dispatched first responders to the scene of reported damage from missile shrapnel in the northern Sharon region. At least one person, a 15-year-old, was reportedly wounded in the Hadera region.
Iran continued to launch missiles into northern Israel past 7 a.m. local time, when the ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump was intended to take effect.
Iranian state media network SNN reported that Tehran was observing the ceasefire at around 7:20 a.m. after four waves of missiles to Israel.
"We saw thick smoke rising from the crash site, and as we approached, we saw extensive destruction in several buildings," said Shimrit Sela, a senior MDA paramedic.
"Outside one of the buildings, we saw a man lying unconscious at the entrance to one of the buildings. When we went inside to search the building, we saw a man and a woman unconscious. We have set up a point to treat the injured, and we are conducting medical examinations on residents who are leaving the buildings."
This is a developing story.
