Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel agreed to US President Donald Trump's proposed ceasefire in a statement on Tuesday morning.

The statement from Netanyahu's office noted that he had agreed to the ceasefire because Israel had achieved all of its war goals.

"In Operation 'Rising Lion,' the State of Israel achieved monumental historical successes and placed itself in line with the great powers of the world," the statement read.

It added that Israel would "respond forcefully" to any potential violation of the ceasefire.

Iran strikes Israel six times before ceasefire takes effect

Netanyahu's announcement comes after he convened the security cabinet for a meeting on Monday night. After the meeting, he asked his ministers to refrain from commenting on the ceasefire.

Trump spoke with Netanyahu earlier in the day before sealing a ceasefire deal with Iran, which was mediated by Qatar, a diplomatic source told The Jerusalem Post.

On Tuesday morning, Trump announced that the ceasefire had taken effect in a social media post.

"THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

However, Israeli officials told the Post that Trump's social media announcement was not released at the intended time or in the manner it was supposed to be.

Before Trump's post, Iran struck Israel at least six times in one hour, killing four people and injuring at least 20.

This is a developing story.
