The list included 31 UN organizations and 35 non-UN organizations, all deemed “contrary to the interests of the United States to remain a member of, participate in, or otherwise provide support to.”
The United States will withdraw from 66 international organizations that the Trump administration deems wasteful, ineffective, or harmful, President Trump announced in a presidential memorandum on Wednesday.
The list included 31 UN organizations and 35 non-UN organizations, all deemed “contrary to the interests of the United States to remain a member of, participate in, or otherwise provide support to.”
According to a statement released by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “from DEI mandates to ‘gender equity’ campaigns to climate orthodoxy, many international organizations now serve a globalist project rooted in the discredited fantasy of the ‘End of History.’ These organizations actively seek to constrain American sovereignty.”
Trump intends to withdraw from further organizations in future
The Trump administration has long advocated reducing participation in large international organizations, with Trump previously expressing a desire to withdraw from the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Accords.
One of the organizations on the list, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, is the parent treaty of the Paris Accords, which are dedicated to stabilizing greenhouse gas emissions and slowing the rise in global temperatures.
The list of organizations contains multiple other entities dedicated to slowing climate change, as well as those dedicated to human rights, education, research and technology, counterterrorism, and eco conservation.
