In its monthly magazine Rumiyah, ISIS called on its supporters to Islamic State called upon its supporters and recruits to set fires as a form of terrorism.ISIS magazine details how to make Molotov cocktails, praises arson as the future of terror attacks.
The article, which is a sequel to Rumiyah's previous articles on how to carry out stabbing attacks and car rammings, brought Israel's arson intifada as an example of arson terror used successfully.
Rumiyah is published in several languages, including German, Croatian, Russian, English, and Indonesian.
"The whole world witnessed the devastating fires that ravaged Jewish settlements in Palestine, destroying around 700 Jewish homes," the English-language article said. "Irrespective of the motive, this deliberate act of destruction demonstrated the lethality of such an effortless operation.
"With some simple and readily accessible materials (i.e. flammables), one can easily terrorize an entire nation. This is just a quick option for anyone intending to join the just terror campaign.
"Incendiary attacks have played a significant role in modern and guerrilla warfare, as well as in 'lone wolf' terrorism," the article continued, noting previous fires have "demonstrated the lethality of such an effortless operation."
Suggested target areas are factories, forested areas adjacent to residential areas, gas stations, hospitals, schools, places of worship, apartment buildings, and houses, and suggests arson be carried out late at night to "increase the likelihood of killing or severely injuring those inside."
"Because many flammables are a part of everyday living, arson attacks are extremely difficult to prevent. Indeed, no more than a large container of gasoline (petrol) is needed for a successful attack. Of course, the gasoline can be acquired from any local gas station, where it is filled into the container. This procedure should not arouse any suspicion, as it is quite common to follow, especially when obtaining gas for a lawnmower, amongst other reasons," the article explained.
The article praised those who had carried out successful terror attacks and emphasized the importance of taking credit for terror attacks, and claimed a recent fire at a Russian furniture store was an ISIS terror attack.
In addition, the article provided detailed instructions for making Molotov cocktails.
"Due to the fast rate at which gasoline burns away, it is better that one transforms the contents of his Molotov cocktail into a sticky, long-burning napalm solution, to ensure – by Allah’s permission – that the intended target properly catches fire before the gas finishes burning," the article explained.
"Arson attacks should in no way be belittled. They cause great economic destruction and emotional havoc and can be repeated very easily," it concluded.
