A gag order has been lifted on a plan by
Palestinian prisoners to conduct a kidnapping in Judea and Samaria. The
terrorist operatives, affiliated with Kataib Al-Mujahadin (the Holy
Warriors Brigades), were in the preliminary stages of their plan when
they were thwarted, according to the Shin Bet security agency.
Muhammad Bal, 24, a resident of Zeitoun in the
Gaza Strip, was named as the main suspect. Bal, who has been
incarcerated in Eshel prison since 2008, recruited two prisoners from
the West Bank -- Ali Harub, 21, from Dura, and Rajab Salah Al-din, 53,
from Himza, who was apprehended in May 2012.
An investigation revealed that the terrorists
were coordinating their efforts with a contact from the highest ranks of
the Holy Warriors Brigades, Gaza-based Amr Qassem, age 29. According to
the Shin Bet, the Holy Warriors Brigades is an Islamist offshoot of
Fatah's Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades and closely cooperates with Hamas in
terrorist training and arms smuggling.
The Shin Bet filed charges to the Beersheba District
Court against the men, on counts of membership and activity in an
unlawful organization, conspiracy to commit a crime, and contact with a
foreign agent.
