Following are excerpts from statements by Egyptian TV host Osama Mounir, which aired on Mehwar TV on July 16, 2014:
Osama Mounir: "Hamas
recently declared yesterday that it rejected the Egyptian ceasefire
initiative, and today, it surprised us again by making ten conditions
for accepting the initiative.
[…]
"It will be
recorded in the annals of history that when Egypt proposed a ceasefire,
Israel agreed, the U.S. welcomed it, and so did Europe. Everybody has
supported the Egyptian initiative, except for you. What do you people
want?
[…]
"Let's see
what our brothers – sorry, our estranged brothers – demand. In
principle… I don't know what to call this… People are getting killed,
and you're making demands: 'If you don't give us what we want, the
Palestinian people can go to hell. We don't care how many Palestinians
die.'
"Demand
number one: Building a seaport under international supervision. What
Hamas actually says is: If you want to stop shooting, and if you want an
end to the killing of the good, wretched Palestinians, build us a
seaport. That's just great!
"Demand number two: Building an international airport.
"Demand
number three: The siege on the Gaza Strip must be completely lifted, and
goods, cement, and other products must be allowed in.
"Lifting the siege is a reasonable demand, but demanding a seaport and an airport now, when people are dying…
"Let's move on. Next demand: A stop to interference in Palestinian affairs, including elections, the government, and so on.
[…]
"These are
internal issues between Hamas, Fatah, and the Palestinian Authority. How
is this relevant to the people who are dying now?! They also demand
that farmers be allowed to cultivate their land near the border, and
that fishing in the Gaza sea be allowed up to 10 km from the coast.
"Then they
demand that the people of Gaza be permitted to visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque,
and that the people recently arrested be released… Of course, you're
talking about your own people, right?
"And now we
are getting to the major catastrophe. Before we go to demand nine, let's
finish with number ten: The Zionist airforce must be prevented from
flying over Gaza. Dream on! Israel will never agree to this. I don't
support Israel, by the way. May Israel be set ablaze with dirty
gasoline. Pardon the expression. These people deserve to be set ablaze,
but today, oh Hamas, we find ourselves in a situation, where we have
dozens of funerals every other day… When 211 innocent people die, you
can't just make demands. Then they demand the complete opening of the
Rafah crossing. That’s just great!
"They want to
open the Rafah crossing, under their own supervision, and the
supervision of 'a friendly country,' and another Arab country to be
designated by Hamas. Are you out of your mind?! Why don't you just come
over and take Tahrir Square, man?! Don't you want the Mogamma government
building for a spin? Listen to my offer: We can build a plastic
pyramid, and you can turn it into a tourist trap. Maybe you'd like a
Nile river with some boats in it? You're fantasizing, or what?! Why
should we hand the Rafah crossing over to you?! Why should I open my
borders to you?! Is there no Egyptian sovereignty over our lands and
borders?!
[…]
"I was truly
surprised by these demands. After these ten Hamas demands, I expected an
eleventh demand: Restoring Mohammad Morsi to the presidency. Why the
hell not? Someone who says such things belongs in an asylum. This is
deranged.
[…]
"Whoever
foils the Egyptian initiative will be responsible for the Palestinian
blood. Allow me to repeat this: Whoever foils the Egyptian initiative
will be responsible for the Palestinian blood."
