"It's the first time in the history of any modern democracy that a person was put on trial for trying to get good press coverage."

Leading US attorney Prof. Alan Dershowitz told Galei Tzahal's Morning News Show with Efi Triger that "The criminal trial of Prime Minister Netanyahu raises grave dangers to democracy and the rule of law."

"It's the first time in the history of any modern democracy that a person was put on trial for trying to get good press coverage," he added.

"I don't blame the prime minister for defending himself aggressively. He has to make a decision as to whether its his tactical advantage or disadvantage. But that's a tactical decision. Morally, he's entitled to defend himself."

At the same time, Dershowitz opposed attacks on Israeli Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, saying that "he is a decent man who I think has made a mistake."

"In a democracy, you criticize someone for making a mistake but you don't threaten them and call them a criminal."
