A massive explosion sparked a large blaze at a power plant in northeastern Iran late Wednesday night, the Islamic republic's media reported.
The incident took place in Neyshabur, a city in Razavi Khorasan Province some 475 miles from Tehran, causing widespread blackouts in the area.
Power plant manager Jalal Bahashtian told the Fars news agency that "no injuries were caused by this difficult accident. We hope to restore electricity to the area in the next few hours."
Still, opposition media outlets reported that several people were wounded and that the damage to the facility was extensive, spelling days of blackouts on the greater Neyshabur area.
While Iranian state media often downplays incidents of this nature in an attempt to save face, opposition media outlets further said that the possibility of sabotage cannot be ruled out at this time.
