The IDF confirmed on Saturday night that senior Islamic Jihad operative Khaled Mansour had been killed in Israeli airstrike and that to the best of the military's knowledge, all senior Islamic Jihad officials in Gaza had been eliminated since Operation Breaking Dawn began on Friday.

Sirens blared in Tel Aviv on Saturday evening as the IDF continued the operation against Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip as more than 350 rockets were launched toward Israel in the first full day of fighting between the two groups.

The IDF confirmed that it was striking multiple targets in Gaza on Saturday night and early Sunday morning, with blasts heard in Rafah, in southern Gaza.

Head of the Operations Directorate Maj.-Gen. Oded Basiuk confirmed late Saturday night that senior Islamic Jihad operative Khaled Mansour was the target of the strikes and had been eliminated. He added that "according to our intelligence...all of the senior security operatives of Gaza's Islamic Jihad have been eliminated."

The IDF continued to strike cells that had been planning to fire mortar shells as well as rocket launching sites after they fired toward Israeli communities near the border. Several Palestinian operatives belonging to Islamic Jihad were killed and injured in the strikes.

According to reports in Gaza, several civilians were killed including a 5-year-old girl and a 25-year-old woman, and at least 125 more were injured.

Explosion in Jabaliya refugee camp

An explosion in Jabaliya on Saturday night killed at least nine people, including at least four children.

Despite initial reports stating that the deaths had been caused by an IDF strike, IDF Spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Ran Kochav said that the civilians, including the children, were killed because of a failed rocket launch that came shortly before a rocket barrage. “We did not launch strikes at that time,” he said.

International spokesperson for Prime Minister Yair Lapid Keren Hajioff released a statement on the incident, refuting claims that Israel had been responsible for the death.

"Islamic Jihad is killing Palestinian children in Gaza. One in four rockets fired from Gaza towards Israel – lands inside the Gaza Strip," said Hajioff. "Iran’s proxies – including Islamic Jihad – have a long history of hiding behind civilians to target Israeli civilians. The world should be outraged at this terrorist group targeting innocent Israelis and killing innocent Gazans."

"Israel will continue to stand up to this vicious terrorist organization – which threatens Israelis and Palestinians alike."

An Israeli intelligence official said that "we also have solid information from many Palestinian citizens that verifies the fact that the harm to the children in Jabaliya" was caused by a failed rocket of the Islamic Jihad."

With over 15% of all rockets fired by Islamic Jihad falling in the Strip, the military says that it could say with certainty that the Jabaliya explosion was not caused by an Israeli airstrike and that the Israeli military was not in the area at the time. At least 12 Islamic Jihad operatives have also been killed since the fighting began.

IDF strikes Gaza

The IDF said that Israeli Air Force jets, armed drones, helicopters, tanks, artillery and elite commando ground Maglan and Egoz units carried out over 40 strikes, hitting dozens of targets in Gaza, including military bases, weapon production sites and storehouses, rocket launching sites, buildings used by operatives, observation posts and more.

Combat helicopters and fighter jets also struck two naval ammunition depots located in the homes of Islamic Jihad operatives.

Kochav said that Israel is not holding any negotiations for a ceasefire and is expecting the fighting to last for at least a week.

“We are continuing; we aren’t finished yet. We will continue to act, professionally and send a message that we have strong intelligence and deterrence. This message will be passed not only to Islamic Jihad but all terror groups,” he said.

Visiting an Iron Dome battery on Saturday along with Air Defense Array Commander Brig.-Gen. Gilad Biran, Defense Minister Benny Gantz thanked the troops manning the system and guarding the home front “with eyes on the target at all times.”

"Islamic Jihad leaders lounge abroad in restaurants and hotels in Tehran, Syria and Lebanon. They are disconnected from the Palestinian people and they seriously harm the lives of the Gazan people. They too will have to pay the price. The IRGC [which supports Islamic Jihad], will not pay the salaries of Gaza residents,” Gantz said.

Saying that the operation aims to thwart terror attacks by the Islamic State and restore the quiet and stability to the area, Gantz said that the IDF “has thwarted and will continue to thwart terrorists planning to launch rockets and mortars into Israel.”

The minister said that the IDF hit dozens of targets belonging to the group and that the “offensive effort against the perpetrators of terror will continue and intensify-without borders and without limitations.”

On Friday evening, Gantz approved a draft order calling up to 25,000 soldiers in reserve duty for operational purposes. The IDF began calling them up in the Southern Command, Air Defense Array and Home Front Command, as well as other combat troops and officers.

He later spoke to US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin about the escalation. In a readout provided by Washington, Austin “underscored Israel's right to self-defense and the enduring US commitment to Israel's security,” and urged steps to de-escalate the situation.  He also expressed concern regarding reports of civilian deaths and called for "a timely and thorough investigation into any civilian casualties.”

Prime Minister Yair Lapid said that "the goal of this operation is the elimination of a concrete threat against the citizens of Israel and [especially] the civilians living adjacent to the Gaza Strip.”

Tayseer al-Jabari

The IDF launched the operation on Friday afternoon, taking out two of Islamic Jihad's important leaders in simultaneous strikes: northern command head Tayseer al-Jabari and anti-tank guided-missile section head Abdullah Kadoum.

Also struck in the opening of the operation on Friday afternoon were two cells that had been given orders to carry out anti-tank missile attacks.

Jabari replaced Baha abu al-Ata, who was killed in an IAF strike in 2019. Jabari, who was also responsible for coordination between PIJ and Hamas, was killed at 4:16 p.m. in his Shuja'iyya apartment. According to the IDF, he commanded over the launching of hundreds of rockets during Operation Guardian of the Walls last year, including anti-tank-guided missile attacks.

The IDF said that it had received a specific warning that he was planning an attack against Israeli targets before the arrest of PIJ West Bank chief Bassem Saadi earlier in Jenin.

"The enemy has begun a war against our people and against us and we will defend ourselves and our people," Islamic Jihad said in a statement.

The group’s leader Ziad Nahalka, who is based in Damascus, said that "the enemy should expect fighting. Our military wing will stand abreast of all other resistance factions in our struggle against Israeli aggression. This campaign is no holds barred and Tel Aviv will also taste the wrath of the rockets of the resistance."

A senior IDF official said that the military is targeting Islamic Jihad and is trying to avoid civilian casualties and damage, but that it is ready for the situation to escalate, stressing that Israeli civilians must listen to all instructions from the Home Front Command.

“We couldn't allow Islamic Jihad to carry out an attack; it backfired on them,” he said, adding that “there will be [rocket] barrages – there may also be casualties; all this is clear and this should also be told to the public.”

Following the targeted killings, which were carried out by jets and armed drones, the IDF warned that the group would likely respond with rocket fire toward the Israeli home front. The military placed Iron Dome batteries in Jerusalem, Beersheba and other areas in order to intercept any projectile fired by the group.

The IDF closed roads near the Strip on Tuesday. On Wednesday, it called up 100 reservists to bolster the Gaza Division to assist in securing the area and keep civilians out of areas that could be targeted by Islamic Jihad.

The terrorist group has in the past fired anti-tank guided missiles toward Israeli vehicles, both civilian and military.

Both Qatar and Egypt have been trying to mediate with Hamas and Islamic Jihad in order to de-escalate the situation. Hamas is also working to prevent attacks by the terror group, including by putting pressure on the group and locating cells that might be planning to fire anti-tank-guided missiles toward Israeli targets.

Hamas has an Islamic Jihad problem in the Gaza Strip - analysis - Khaled Abu Toameh

 by Khaled Abu Toameh

It's obvious that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad has become a major threat not only to Israel but to Hamas as well.

Regardless of how and when the current round of fighting ends, it’s clear that the Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad organization has managed to reassert its status as the second largest and most influential terror group in the Gaza Strip.

It’s also obvious that Islamic Jihad has become a major threat not only to Israel, but to Hamas as well. Similarly, it has also become a real threat to the Palestinian Authority, especially in the northern West Bank.

In the past several years, Islamic Jihad has been openly challenging Hamas by operating as a state-within-a-state in the Gaza Strip. Hamas leaders have always displayed intolerance towards rival groups in the coastal enclave.

Even more disturbing for Hamas is the fact that a number of other armed groups have joined Islamic Jihad in firing rockets at Israel in the past 24 hours. These groups are affiliated with Fatah, Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Popular Resistance Committees and Nasser Salah a-Din Brigades.

The fighting in the Gaza Strip shows that Hamas is no longer the sole decision-maker on matters related to military confrontations with Israel. It further illustrates that Islamic Jihad is capable of acting as an independent military force without having to coordinate with, or receive permission from, Hamas.

A statement published by the armed wing of Islamic Jihad on Saturday boasted that the terrorist groups were united in confronting the Israeli “aggression” on the Gaza Strip.

The statement, nonetheless, does not seem to reflect the reality on the ground, namely that Hamas has still not joined Islamic Jihad and its allies in the current round of fighting.

By Saturday afternoon, there was still no indication that Hamas was keen on joining the fighting. Statements issued by Hamas leaders offered nothing but lip service to Islamic Jihad and the other terrorist groups.

A terse statement by Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said that he “affirmed during contacts with the Egyptian intelligence heads that what happened in the Gaza Strip is the responsibility of the occupation state alone.” Haniyeh, in addition, “stressed the need to stop the bombing targeting the Gaza Strip.”

Another statement released by Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum also failed to offer any hint that his group was planning to join the fighting. “The resistance, with all its military arms and factions, is united in this battle, will defend our people in the Gaza Strip with everything it possesses, and will defeat the occupation as it defeated it in all the battles,” said Barhoum.

At this stage, it’s obvious that Hamas does not want Islamic Jihad to drag it into another all-out confrontation with Israel. Hamas’s biggest fear is that another war could trigger a revolt against its regime by the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who paid a heavy price during last year’s military confrontation with Israel.

Hamas is now hoping that Egypt and Qatar will be able to achieve a new ceasefire between Israel and Islamic jihad. Although it is doing its utmost not to get involved in the fighting, Hamas is apparently worried that if the fighting escalates and the number of casualties rises in the Gaza Strip, it will no longer be able to continue sitting on the fence.

In the past, Hamas found itself in the same position that Islamic Jihad is in now, when it created a state-within-a-state under the rule of the Palestinian Authority in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Authority’s failure to rein in Hamas in the 1990s ultimately saw the Islamists seize control of the Gaza Strip in the summer of 2007 after toppling the Palestinian Authority.

Paradoxically, Israel’s military strikes against Islamic Jihad serve the interests of Hamas by undermining the organization that poses a threat to its rule over the Gaza Strip. But Hamas’s failure to assist Islamic Jihad could also prove to be counterproductive, especially in wake of increased voices criticizing the rulers of the Gaza Strip for their neutral stance.

The Mislabeled “Inflation Reduction Act of 2022” - Joseph Klein

 by Joseph Klein

The Democrats wield their latest wrecking ball to crush the economy.

President Joe Biden is presiding over an economy that is simultaneously inflicting hyper-inflation and negative growth on the American people. This is stagflation, a one-two punch that the U.S. economy has not experienced since the Jimmy Carter days more than 40 years ago. But no worries, says President Biden, who assured Americans trying to make ends meet that the U.S. economy is “on the right path.”

The Biden administration rejects the label “recession” even though the last two consecutive quarters have experienced contractions in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) - the standard definition of a recession.

Even if we are not yet in a recession as the Biden administration argues, technical signals such as the inverted yield curve and a decline in home building and buying are pointing strongly to a coming recession.

When all is said and done, however, what really counts is “whether current economic conditions are creating hardship,” as Raphael Bostic, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta put it. “There are a lot of people hurting,” he said.

Rather than address the stagflation head-on with workable solutions that won’t make things worse, the Democrats are intent on pushing through Congress another of their legislative gimmicks. They call their handiwork - the product of a “compromise” deal worked out by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and West Virginia’s Democrat Senator Joe Manchin – the "Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.” False advertising would be an understatement! It is a skinny-down version of President Biden’s failed Build Back Better proposal. The Schumer-Manchin bill is laden with green energy pork spending. It will do nothing significant for the rate of inflation in either direction while raising taxes for middle class Americans.

The mislabeled bill will result in a very small increase in inflation during the next two years, according to the Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM). Using the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index preferred by the Federal Reserve to gauge the rate of inflation, the model estimates an increase of up to a 0.05 percentage point in 2024. The model then predicts a negligible fall in the inflation index of 0.25 percentage point by the late 2020s. “These point estimates are statistically indistinguishable from zero, thereby indicating low confidence that the legislation will have any impact on inflation,” PWBM staff members concluded.

The bill contains nearly $370 billion in new government spending and tax credits to accelerate the transition from reliance on fossil fuels to total reliance on green energy, in addition to billions of dollars more to extend Obamacare subsidies. Its proponents say that the additional spending will be more than offset by savings achieved by allowing Medicare to negotiate with Big Pharma for lower prescription drug prices and by huge tax increases on corporations and wealthy individuals.

Look beneath the surface, however, and you will find proof of what former President Ronald Reagan said decades ago. “Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases,” Mr. Reagan said. “If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”

At a time when the economy is either already in recession or on the verge of entering a recession, President Biden and his Democrat colleagues in Congress want to increase taxes. Senators Schumer and Manchin are touting their bill’s tax provisions as only going after corporations and wealthy individuals who have taken advantage of tax loopholes to avoid paying their “fair share.” But according to the nonpartisan Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, the Schumer-Manchin proposal will raise federal taxes on Americans making less than $400,000, violating President Biden’s pledge to not raise taxes on anyone earning less than $400,000.

More specifically, the Joint Committee on Taxation estimated that federal taxes will increase by over $16 billion for taxpayers earning less than $200,000 and will increase by $14.1 billion for taxpayers earning between $200,000 and $500,000.

In short, the Schumer-Manchin legislation would raise taxes on middle class Americans, just as the economy is either already in a recession or fast approaching one. Higher taxes will take more money out of consumers’ pockets, which they might otherwise have had available to spend on goods and services even as prices continue to rise because of the Bidenflation.

The mislabeled “Inflation Reduction Act of 2022” contains a new 15 percent minimum tax on corporations that report to their shareholders at least $1 billion in profits. This counterproductive, job-killing tax increase will cancel out the tax incentives already in place that have encouraged corporations to make capital investments, expand their businesses, and spend more money on research and development to create productive technological innovations. Many businesses will end up passing along at least a portion of their increased costs in new taxes to their customers, leading to even higher prices that consumers will be required to pay for basic goods and services.

The climate portion of the proposed legislation would subsidize the purchase of expensive electric vehicles through generous tax credits of up to $7,500 for the purchase of new electric vehicles and tax credits of $4,000 for used electric vehicles. The credits for new electric vehicles are supposed to be targeted to help individuals who make $150,000 a year or less (or $300,000 for people filing jointly).

The average price of new electric cars has risen to $66,000 according to Kelley Blue Book – approximately $18,000 more than the average cost of a non-electric car. A $7,500 tax credit will hardly do much to make electric cars affordable to most ordinary Americans today. In any case, the tax credit would only apply to new electric cars that cost no more than $55,000, which is $11,000 less than today's average price of new electric cars.

The average price of used electric cars is obviously lower. However, recent data show that used electric car prices are increasing year over year at a rate that is about double the year over year increase in the prices for used cars overall. A $4,000 tax credit will not do much to incentivize people to shell out considerably more money for a used electric car than they would have to spend to buy a used non-electric car in good condition.

If these tax credits do stimulate more consumer demand for electric cars, the tax credits will primarily incentivize car manufacturers to maintain artificially high prices for electric vehicles that are built using today’s technology with only minor enhancements. They will have less incentive to finance risky, long-term R&D projects that might possibly create technological breakthroughs which one day down the road may or may not significantly lower the average cost of electric vehicles. The $10 billion in investment tax credits for building domestic manufacturing facilities that make electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies may only marginally influence manufacturers' risk-benefit calculations.

The Schumer-Manchin bill contains $60 billion for clean energy manufacturing in the U.S. and $30 billion in tax credits for companies to produce wind turbines and solar panels. This is a much larger version of former President Obama’s fiscal stimulus plan of 2009-2010 that lavished taxpayers’ money through loan guarantees on failed green energy enterprises. The disastrous experience with the solar panel manufacturer, Solyndra Inc., should have taught policy makers what happens when the government tries to pick winners and losers and engages in centralized industrial planning. Evidently, not so for congressional Democrats and the Biden administration.

Moreover, why do the solar and wind power industries need any more government subsidies when the costs of these sources of power are said to have fallen 89 percent and 70 percent respectively over the last decade? This is just throwing away taxpayers’ money to subsidize alternative energy companies that by now should be able to compete in the energy marketplace on their own.

The Schumer-Manchin bill would also redistribute wealth by funneling over $60 billion to support low-income communities and communities of color that have purportedly been adversely affected disproportionately by the environmental and health effects of climate change. This is on top of $27 billion that would be used to establish a “green bank” to support clean energy projects with the focus primarily on disadvantaged communities.

To be fair, there are a couple of potentially constructive provisions in the climate portion of the Schumer-Manchin bill. Tax credits over 10 years for companies building new sources of electricity that do not rely on fossil fuels could be helpful. However, this program must be reviewed at frequent intervals to make sure that the tax credits are having their intended effect and not being abused. If these reviews show that the tax credits are not working, the credits should be scrapped. There is also a tax credit for companies that are willing to incur the prohibitive cost of capturing and burying carbon dioxide from gas emitting facilities before the gas can reach the atmosphere. This tax credit could be marginally helpful in the short run. However, it would make much more sense to use tax incentives to stimulate research and development leading to innovations that would significantly bring down the cost of carbon capture and sequestration for much wider use.

The so-called “Inflation Reduction Act of 2022” does virtually nothing to help ease inflation. For the next couple of years it will actually increase inflation slightly. At the same time, its huge spending on green energy and its tax provisions taken as a whole are likely to worsen the recession that is either here already or right around the corner. The name of the bill should be changed to the “American Prosperity Reduction Act of 2022.”

George Soros: Singlehandedly Destroying American Criminal Justice - John Dempsey

 by John Dempsey

What happens when justice is subverted by a radical billionaire financier?

[Order David Horowitz's 'The Shadow Party: How George Soros, Hillary Clinton, and Sixties Radicals Seized Control of the Democratic Party': HERE.]

Crime is rapidly rising in major American cities, primarily where liberal District Attorney's (DA) received large sums of money from liberal billionaire George Soros in their election campaigns. Many of these DAs take it upon themselves to dismiss charges for various reasons – whether it is income, racial, or status based, ignoring the law. Liberal George Soros DAs, like any other politician, do what their largest donor wants them to do. In the case of American criminal justice, we see what George Soros wants: criminals who get away with crime and victims who never see justice.

America is a unique country. We are a nation guided by the Constitution which provides Due Process, prohibiting the government from depriving a person of his or her day in court. It means that someone cannot be accused of a crime and thrown in jail, making the court process an integral part of our criminal justice system should the accused want to face their accuser.

But what happens when the justice system is made a mockery by a liberal billionaire donor such as Soros? Simple: There will be no justice system, and society will start to crumble.

Soros is perhaps the godfather of woke criminal justice reform. He has also dolled out tens of millions of dollars into district attorney races. The candidates he supports are primarily in large left-wing cities, and we are starting to see the fruits of his labor in crime spikes. Violent crime is rising at an unprecedented rate, and Soros is primarily to blame, whether he accepts reality or not.

In New York City, Jose Alba, a bodega worker, was attacked by Austin Simon after Simon believed Alba mistreated his girlfriend's minor daughter over a bag of chips. After Simon began to assault Alba, he managed to stab Simon, who died of his injuries. A clear case of self-defense that was captured on surveillance footage. Soros-funded District Attorney Alvin Bragg levied murder charges against Alba. Later, after outrage and a review of surveillance footage, the charges were dropped; the arrest should have never occurred.

Alba's case is just one out of thousands where Soros-backed attorneys hold victims accountable for crimes they did not commit. Criminals remain accessible on the streets to cause havoc, destruction, and social disintegration. All the while, Soros denies the reality that he is responsible for the degradation of American criminal justice and the freedom to walk down city sidewalks without fear of being mugged, seeing homeless urinating in public, or stepping in feces.

Completely detached from reality in his billionaire ivory tower, Soros claimed that his progressive DA's policies are not the reason for crime spikes in large cities after he was called out in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece. In his defense, Soros claimed that Republican-led states have more crime but could not back up his claim. Like many other leftists, he is devoid of reality and is more focused on power, reform, and so-called equality than reality.

The reality is that crime is spiking in major American cities where Soros is responsible for donating enough money to get progressive, light-on-law prosecutors elected; however, citizens are starting to realize the damage of progressive prosecutors. One of the most liberal cities in America recalled San Francisco prosecutor Chesa Boudin, with received a 61% of voters wanting him out of office – a message that should reverberate across the country. Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon is likely to face a recall vote as well. If Gascon gets recalled, we will see two of George Soros' picks kicked out of office.

Removing Soros-backed DAs is essential for the safety of communities. However, voters must realize that left-wing legal policies are unsuitable for their community or the country. When liberals or leftists say they want progressive prosecution, they want to decriminalize crime for politics; law enforcement and politics should never hold hands.

Soros' DAs must get recalled and replaced with prosecutors who believe criminals should be held accountable. Right now, major American cities are quickly decaying and turning into a real-life Gotham City. However, even Batman cannot save them, for he will be arrested and charged by a progressive Soros-backed district attorney.

Thanks to the EU, Iran's Mullahs Will Continue Taking Even More Hostages - Majid Rafizadeh

 by Majid Rafizadeh

The authorities are attempting to pervert the course of justice in Sweden and Belgium, and should be investigated for the crime of hostage taking." — Diana Eltahawy, Amnesty International Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, May 19, 2022.

  • Recently the Belgian government proposed and ratified legislation that appears to pave the way to transfer terrorists who have been convicted abroad back to Iran.

  • Does Belgium not understand that returning convicted terrorists to Iran will further embolden and empower the mullahs to carry out more terrorist acts on the European soil while they maintain complete impunity? The new concession will also encourage Iran's regime to take even more European citizens as hostages and demand still more concessions from the EU.

  • "It has been a crime to kill prisoners for centuries. The difference is that if it amounts to a particular crime of genocide, there is an international convention that binds countries to take action and punish that genocide... There is no doubt that there is a case for prosecuting [Iranian President Ebrahim] Raisi and others. There has been a crime committed that engages international responsibility. Something must be done about it as has been done against the perpetrators of the Srebrenica massacre." — Geoffrey Robertson, human rights barrister and first president of the UN's Special Court for Sierra Leone, YouTube, August 27, 2021.

  • "The Iranian authorities are using Ahmadreza Djalali's life as a pawn in a cruel political game, escalating their threats to execute him in retaliation for their demands going unmet. The authorities are attempting to pervert the course of justice in Sweden and Belgium, and should be investigated for the crime of hostage taking." — Diana Eltahawy, Amnesty International Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, May 19, 2022.

  • Even though the current Iranian government is a party to the International Convention against the Taking of Hostages, Tehran has long taken foreign hostages as pawns to extract economic concessions and achieve geopolitical and financial gains. The Obama administration, for instance, shipped $400 million in an unmarked plane to Iran for the release of four Iranian-American prisoners.

  • Appeasing terrorists, as we all know, only incentivizes them. It only breeds more terrorism and hostage-taking; it is an endless, deliciously profitable jobs and extortion program. The EU's policy, which ensures that Iran's ruling mullahs enjoy impunity, is a blow to the victims of the Iranian regime's terrorism and will simply endanger the security and safety of European citizens.

Even though the current Iranian government is a party to the International Convention against the Taking of Hostages, Tehran has long taken foreign hostages as pawns to extract economic concessions and achieve geopolitical and financial gains. Iran's regime appears as if it is attempting to secure the release from Swedish prison of Hamid Nouri, who was found guilty by a Stockholm court of crimes against humanity, including being a key figure in the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran, in which at least 30,000 dissidents were executed. Pictured: People protest against the crimes of Iran's regime outside the Stockholm District Court, during the trial against Hamid Noury, on November 23, 2021. (Photo by Duygu Gertiren/TT News Agency/AFP via Getty Images)

The Iranian regime has lately been taking more European hostages -- the direct result of the EU's appeasement policies to the ruling mullahs of Iran.

The Iranian authorities announced on July 30 that they had arrested another Swedish citizen. The Tehran regime normally detains European citizens on vague security-related charges such as having "suspicious behavior and contacts". Iran's hardline state-controlled newspaper, Kayhan, has also urged the government to take more European hostages.

The rise in hostage-taking of European citizens by Iran's regime should not come as a surprise. Recently the Belgian government proposed and ratified legislation that appears to pave the way to transfer terrorists who have been convicted abroad back to Iran. The so-called treaty between the Belgian government and the Iranian regime is most likely designed to secure the release of Iranian diplomat-terrorist Assadollah Assadi. He was arrested in 2018 for plotting to bomb a huge rally outside Paris that had been organized by the Iranian opposition group, the National Council of Resistance of Iran. Last year, Assadi was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Belgian court for masterminding the terror plot. Had it been successful, it could well have been the worst terrorist incident in Europe's modern history.

Does Belgium not understand that returning convicted terrorists to Iran will further embolden and empower the mullahs to carry out more terrorist acts on the European soil while they maintain complete impunity? The new concession will also encourage Iran's regime to take even more European citizens as hostages and demand still more concessions from the EU.

Now the regime of Iran, emboldened, appears as if it is attempting to secure the release of another convicted individual, Hamid Nouri.

Nouri was the first former Iranian official tried outside Iran on crimes against humanity. He had been a former interrogator and torturer at Gohardasht Prison in Karaj, west of Tehran. Nouri, was accused of facilitating and even personally carrying out executions at Gohardasht. He was also allegedly involved in the massacre of political prisoners in Iran in 1988, during which at least 30,000 dissidents were executed and secretly buried in mass graves.

The massacre committed by the Iranian regime was a ruthless, bloody and inconceivable butchery of political prisoners. It was indeed a horrible crime against humanity and could, according to the opinion of experts on international human rights law, possibly be termed a genocide. As Geoffrey Robertson, a human rights barrister and first president of the UN's Special Court for Sierra Leone, pointed out:

"It has been a crime to kill prisoners for centuries. The difference is that if it amounts to a particular crime of genocide, there is an international convention that binds countries to take action and punish that genocide... There is no doubt that there is a case for prosecuting [Iranian President Ebrahim] Raisi and others. There has been a crime committed that engages international responsibility. Something must be done about it as has been done against the perpetrators of the Srebrenica massacre."

In May, the Islamic Republic also stated that it would execute another Swedish citizen, Ahmadreza Djalali. As Diana Eltahawy, Amnesty International's Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, accurately stated:

"The Iranian authorities are using Ahmadreza Djalali's life as a pawn in a cruel political game, escalating their threats to execute him in retaliation for their demands going unmet. The authorities are attempting to pervert the course of justice in Sweden and Belgium, and should be investigated for the crime of hostage taking."

Even though the current Iranian government is a party to the International Convention against the Taking of Hostages, Tehran has long taken foreign hostages as pawns to extract economic concessions and achieve geopolitical and financial gains. The Obama administration, for instance, shipped $400 million in an unmarked plane to Iran for the release of four Iranian-American prisoners.

Appeasing terrorists, as we all know, only incentivizes them.

The Growing Threat from North Korea - Judith Bergman

 by Judith Bergman

The question now is – will the Biden administration muster the political will to designate those large Chinese banks under Section 311 of the Patriot Act?

  • China's urging "flexibility" on North Korea appears to coincide with the Chinese Communist Party's ambitions in the region.

  • "According to unclassified intelligence reports to Congress, there are five key Chinese banks and a specially created holding company that funds the North Korean missile and nuclear technology programs." — Peter Huessy, Real Clear Defense, August 10, 2017.

  • China's main strategic concern when it comes to the Korean peninsula is apparently to end the US presence there and keep it out of US hands so that China can finally establish itself as the hegemon in the region.

  • North Korean escalation in the form of increased missile tests and resumption of ICBM and nuclear tests to pressure the US to make concessions -- in the shape of troop withdrawals from South Korea -- would play directly into the hands of China, enabling it to replace the US and establish itself as the primary power in the region.

  • "They are looking to take actions, which we believe are fundamentally destabilizing, as a way to increase pressure." — US official in Washington to journalists, France24.com, January 31, 2022.

  • China, however, seems to have no interest in cooperating with the US on North Korea. Attempts to secure "Beijing's cooperation" to build necessary economic leverage over North Korea are therefore exercises in futility.

  • China clearly cannot be relied on voluntarily to use its leverage over North Korea to persuade Kim Jong-un to give up his missile and nuclear program. To resolve the impasse, it is necessary to employ means that will leave China no choice other than to cooperate on North Korea.

  • A highly efficient way of doing that, Gordon Chang has suggested, would be to cut off the large Chinese banks and businesses that support the North Korean missile and nuclear technology from the global financial system by designating them a "primary money laundering concern" under Section 311 of the Patriot Act.

  • "In short, American policymakers know how to get China to begin acting responsibly." — Gordon G. Chang, Newsweek, May 10, 2021.

  • The question now is -- will the Biden administration muster the political will to designate those large Chinese banks under Section 311 of the Patriot Act?

North Korean escalation in the form of increased missile tests and resumption of ICBM and nuclear tests to pressure the US to make concessions -- in the shape of troop withdrawals from South Korea -- would play directly into the hands of China, enabling it to replace the US and establish itself as the primary power in the region. North Korea, despite a UN Security Council ban on its ballistic missile tests, continued to develop its nuclear and missile programs in 2021, according to a new UN report. In January 2022 alone, North Korea launched a record 11 missiles, including two hypersonic missiles and the first firing since 2017 of a Hwasong-12 mobile intermediate-range ballistic missile which is within reach of US territory with its estimated range of 4,500 kilometers. In 2017, North Korea tested the Hwasong-15, which has an estimated range of 8,500-13,000 kilometers.

Both US and South Korean officials expressed concern that the Hwasong-12 test indicated that North Korea would resume testing of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and nuclear weapons.

In addition, North Korea reportedly has an underground military base, used for keeping ICBMs, just 25 kilometers from its border with China. According to analysts from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the location was chosen to deter preemptive strikes by the US against the base, to avoid provoking Beijing. "The position near the Chinese border acts as a potential deterrent to a pre-emptive strike that might impinge on Chinese security equities," noted Victor Cha, a North Korea expert at the CSIS.

"In today's world where many countries waste time dealing with the United States with submission and blind obedience, there's only our country on this planet that can shake the world by firing a missile with the U.S. mainland in its range," North Korea's Foreign Ministry said in a statement. "There are more than 200 countries in the world, but only a few have hydrogen bombs, intercontinental ballistic missiles, and hypersonic missiles." North Korea has said in the past that the Hwasong-12 can carry a "large-size heavy nuclear warhead."

Eight Security Council members -- the United States, Albania, Brazil, France, Ireland, Norway, the United Arab Emirates and Britain -- and Japan described North Korea's Hwasong-12 launch as a "significant escalation" that "seeks to further destabilize the region."

China, on the other hand, urged "flexibility" on North Korea. "They should come up with more attractive and more practical, more flexible approaches, policies and actions in accommodating concerns" of North Korea, Chinese UN Ambassador Zhang Jun said. "The key in solving this issue is already in the hands of the United States."

China's urging "flexibility" on North Korea appears to coincide with the Chinese Communist Party's ambitions in the region. North Korea's recent actions were possibly even encouraged by China.

"China, after all, exercises great influence over the North's ruling Kim family and can, as a practical matter, require the North Koreans to do what it wants," wrote China expert Gordon G. Chang.

According to some analysts, China has been instrumental in bringing about North Korea's nuclear weapons' program. According to Peter Huessy, director of strategic deterrent studies at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies:

"The North Korean nuclear program started in 1965 with the Soviet construction of a 5-megawatt nuclear reactor. But it was Chinese and Pakistani assistance that enabled the North to begin construction on a 50-megawatt reactor at Yongbyon, and a secret reprocessing facility, in the mid-1980s. North Korean construction of a covert uranium enrichment facility around 2000 and North Korea's first test explosion of a nuclear device in 2006 were likely enabled by assistance from the Pakistani A.Q. Khan, and based on uranium enrichment and nuclear design plans originally obtained from China."

Crucially, according to Huessy:

"According to unclassified intelligence reports to Congress, there are five key Chinese banks and a specially created holding company that funds the North Korean missile and nuclear technology programs."

China's main strategic concern when it comes to the Korean peninsula is seemingly to end the US presence there and keep it out of US hands so that China can finally establish itself as the hegemon in the region. There are currently approximately 28,500 American troops stationed in South Korea. That is the third-largest military presence abroad for the US after Japan and Germany. North Korean escalation in the form of increased missile tests and resumption of ICBM and nuclear tests to pressure the US to make concessions -- in the shape of troop withdrawals from South Korea -- would play directly into the hands of China, enabling it to replace the US and establish itself as the primary power in the region.

"North Korea will likely escalate pressure on the United States by taking a series of steps toward an ICBM test," said Cheon Seong-whun, a former head of the Korea Institute for National Unification, a government-funded research institute in Seoul.

"They are looking to take actions, which we believe are fundamentally destabilizing, as a way to increase pressure," a US official in Washington told journalists.

In response to North Korea's test of the Hwasong-12, the US has called for direct talks with the country "without preconditions."

"We believe it is completely appropriate and completely correct to start having some serious discussions... It requires a response. You will see us taking some steps that are designed to show our commitment to our allies ... and at the same time we reiterate our call for diplomacy. We stand ready and we are very serious about trying to have discussions that address concerns on both sides."

If the Biden administration wants to resolve the growing North Korean threat, it will have to start doing things differently. It will have to abandon "the same basic North Korea strategy that Washington has used for over two decades," as pointed out by Markus Garlauskas, a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council's Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security, who served nearly 20 years in the U.S. government dealing with North Korea.

"This strategy has focused on achieving a 'strategic decision' from Pyongyang to negotiate an end to its nuclear weapons program and on securing Beijing's cooperation to build the necessary economic leverage."

China, however, seems to have no interest in cooperating with the US on North Korea. Attempts to secure "Beijing's cooperation" to build necessary economic leverage over North Korea are therefore exercises in futility. A new strategy must finally acknowledge China's role as backer of North Korea for the Chinese Communist Party's strategic purposes in the region. China clearly cannot be relied on voluntarily to use its leverage over North Korea to persuade Jong-un to give up his missile and nuclear program. To resolve the impasse, it is necessary to employ means that will leave China no choice other than to cooperate on North Korea. A highly efficient way of doing that, Gordon Chang has suggested, would be to cut off the large Chinese banks and businesses that support the North Korean missile and nuclear technology from the global financial system by designating them a "primary money laundering concern" under Section 311 of the Patriot Act.

"And as big as Bank of China is—it is the world's fourth-largest bank, as measured by assets—it is surely not the largest Chinese bank cleaning up cash for Kim," Gordon Chang wrote.

"That honor may belong to China's—and the world's—largest bank, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. Moreover, the remaining two of the Big Four, the world's second- and third-largest banks, have also been implicated in handling dirty money for the Kims. In short, American policymakers know how to get China to begin acting responsibly."

The question now is – will the Biden administration muster the political will to designate those large Chinese banks under Section 311 of the Patriot Act?

Shame of the Nation - David Horowitz

 by David Horowitz

The root cause of the American crisis is the moral depravity of the ‘Woke’ progressives.

Everyone can sense that the political situation we find ourselves in is anything but normal. Yet the language we use to describe current conflicts is a language designed to frame them in the category of politics as usual - only perhaps more so. In speaking about current conflicts, we focus on the surface “issues” that divide us – a record inflation, off-the-charts crime waves in our urban centers, a humanitarian crisis at our southern border. Sometimes we sum it up as a double standard in the justice system that treats violent leftists as “peaceful protesters” and public school parents concerned about the abuse of their children as “domestic terrorists.” That juxtaposition gets us closer to the true nature of the conflict. But it is still inadequate to the gravity of the political moment, suggesting that progressives simply fail to understand the issues at hand.

But they understand them very well. For progressives the issue is never the issue. The issue is always the “revolution” – the “re-imagining” and transformation of American society into a future where genders are selected and “social justice” prevails.  That goal is so worthy and so necessary, it justifies any and all means to achieve it. Once this is understood, one can see that under the surface of the crises we face is a sinister force that poses an existential threat to our way of life – a threat far more immediate than the so-called climate apocalypse.

Morality is about following rules that ensure virtuous ends. Detach the means from the ends and what you get are the totalitarian regimes that have blighted the modern era. At the root of the current American crisis is what can only be described as the moral depravity of the “woke” progressives and their radical agenda.

Is this extreme? How else to describe Senator Elizabeth Warren’s response to the Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn Roe v. Wade with a call – unopposed by her Democrat colleagues - to close the nation’s 3,000 private “crisis pregnancy centers.”[1]

These pregnancy centers are already being physically attacked by violent, pro-abortion vigilantes on the left.[2] Their crime? They are specifically set up to provide advice, support, medical services and free supplies to individuals and couples who are pregnant, in difficult personal circumstances, and facing complex life decisions. Why would Senator Warren see such facilities as a threat unless she sees herself as the leader of a death cult, whose members regard life in the womb - in and of itself - as a threat to their “woke” agendas? Why is their no condemnation of Warren by her Democrat colleagues for this cruel and inhumane proposal, which strikes at the heart of our very purpose as a species for existing – reproduction?

The same question could be put to the Democrats over their uncritical support for Planned Parenthood – an organization that was explicitly created as a eugenics project to eliminate inferior races, specifically African Americans.[3] Currently, Planned Parenthood receives hundreds of millions of dollars in annual subsidies from the federal government,[4] which it supplements with profits from selling the dismembered body parts of the babies it aborts.[5]

Why, one might ask, wouldn’t Planned Parenthood put aside $100 million of those revenues to create a comprehensive adoption service with the intention of saving the lives of babies whose mothers might consent to that option? Especially since the number of Americans seeking to adopt unwanted babies exceeds the number of babies aborted in any given year.[6] Why indeed, unless Planned Parenthood wasn’t also a member of Warren’s death cult?

What is the rationale for not providing such a service (and choice) to its pregnant women clients? The answer is obvious. Doing so would undermine the foundational myth of the abortion movement - that abortion is about a woman and her body, and doesn’t in fact involve another life. But it does. The pregnant woman is host to an unborn human being, whom her choices and actions have implanted in her womb in transit to an independent life. By hiding and even attacking this alternative, the abortion movement is in denial of its fundamental obligation to the most vulnerable among us.

This detachment from the reality of one’s actual choices and actions, accompanied by a lack of compassion for one’s victims, are the hallmarks of the sociopath - devoid of conscience and lacking a moral compass. They are also the common theme of progressive crusades to “re-imagine” the world and make it “a better place,” without regard for the brutal consequences of their actions, or the suffering they cause. You can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs.

Open Borders

Joe Biden won the presidential election by a margin of 0.027% of the votes cast.[7] On day one of his presidency, Biden announced the first of 94 executive orders – including many that were blatantly illegal and unconstitutional.[8] Their purpose? To nullify America’s immigration laws and open the nation’s southern border to an invasion of millions of unvetted aliens from 200 countries, smuggled into the United States by sex trafficking, drug-dealing, paramilitary, criminal cartels.

The Trump measures Biden canceled had reduced illegal entries at the southern border by nearly 80%.[9] One of the measures that Trump experimented with was zero tolerance for illegal crossings which involved immediate incarceration as a prelude to deportation.[10] Because U.S. law does not permit the incarceration of minors for the crimes of their parents, this meant the temporary separation of children from their parents. The Democrats from Biden on down seized on this fact to accuse Trump of “ripping children from their mothers’ arms” and keeping them in “cages” reminiscent of Nazi concentration camps.[11]

“Let’s talk about what we’re talking about,” an outraged Biden said about Trump’s zero-tolerance policy during the presidential debates. “What happened? Parents were ripped—their kids were ripped from their arms and separated, and now they cannot find over 500 sets of those parents and those kids are alone. Nowhere to go. Nowhere to go. It’s criminal. It’s criminal.”[12]

These attacks backfired when the photos of children in the “cages” supplied by Democrats were shown to have been taken during the Obama administration. In other words, the targets of the Democrat attacks were actually remnants of an Obama administration policy that had been run for years as holding cells without protests from the same “progressives” who were up in arms about Trump. As for Trump, he was disturbed enough about the plight of the children that after two months he abandoned the “zero tolerance” policy even though it meant failing to deport some illegal adults.[13]

From the outset, Trump had made it clear that immigration should take place legally and, therefore, no illegal migrants were welcome. On day one of taking office, Biden reversed this policy, and declared the opposite, specifically inviting even unaccompanied minors to enter the country without fear that they might be turned away at the border.[14]

By February 2021, just a month after Biden’s executive order went into effect, the number of unaccompanied children in the custody of Health and Human Services more than doubled, to 6,581. In April, the figure grew to 20,339.[15] This was nearly nine times the number of children who had been in custody under Trump in April of the previous year.[16] The number then continued to hover between 12,000 and 16,000 per month in the fall of 2021.[17] The number of unaccompanied alien children  crossing the border illegally since February 2021 stands at 243,850. Yet no cries of anguish have been heard from Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, the “Squad” and the Democrats who had been so “horrified” by the former president’s two-month zero-tolerance policy.

“Humanitarian crisis” doesn’t begin to do justice to the suffering inflicted on these children during their thousand-mile cartel-run treks. The Hill described the journey from Central America and Mexico to the United States, as “one of the most dangerous trips in the world.”[18] In a report documenting the conditions of migrants between 2018 and 2020, Doctors Without Borders noted that 57% of the illegals who were questioned had been victims of some type of violence, in addition to the harsh conditions of the route itself.[19]

Despite these facts, Biden and members of his administration, like Kamala Harris, avoided visiting the border or recommending changes in the policy. They continued to deny that the crisis was a “crisis” insisting instead that it was a “challenge,” and continued to make statements and implement policies encouraging parents to send their children in the custody of violent human traffickers, on this dangerous, potentially life-threatening journey.[20] he number of unaccompanied alien children  crossing the border illegally since February 2021, under the Biden administration, stands at 243,850.The number of child rapes at the hands of the smugglers, the number of deaths from exposure and drowning will never be known. Nor will the scourge of communicable diseases. In a March 2021 sampling of girls at one temporary shelter for migrant teenagers in San Diego, for example, nearly 10 percent tested positive for Covid-19.[21] Fourteen percent of migrant children at a facility in Carrizo Springs, Texas, likewise tested positive.[22] In May 2021, Health and Human Services reported having found more than 3,000 coronavirus cases among migrant children in Texas during the preceding 12 months.[23]

This suffering was not of course confined to minors. Nearly one-third of female migrants say they were sexually abused along the way, usually by rapes.[24] In 2021 alone the bodies of over 650 migrants who had died from exposure, drowning and other causes were retrieved by border patrol agents.[25] That was a number dwarfed by the casualties inside the United States where 70,000 people were poisoned to death by fentanyl,[26] a principal product of the drug trade run by the Mexicans and Chinese, whose sales flourished as a direct result of the Biden administration’s policies.

The open border created by Biden’s executive orders is effectively controlled by the paramilitary Mexican cartels which force the migrants they smuggle to incur thousands of dollars in debt, making them hostages even after their arrival. During Biden’s presidency, three million unvetted migrants from 200 countries have crossed into the United States,[27] in the process creating a multi-billion-dollar criminal operation.[28]

All of the suffering caused by these facts are direct consequences of the policies instituted by the Biden Democrats, who continue to pretend – in the shameful words of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, that “the border is secure.”[29] Brazen lies of this order to cover up atrocities of this magnitude reflect the boundless contempt Democrats harbor towards everyone subject to their rule – migrants and American citizens alike. Inaction and deceit in the face of this level of human suffering is in itself a morally depraved response to a humanitarian crisis without precedent in the nation’s history. And yet it has sparked no revolt or opposition within the Democrat Party.

For progressive Democrats the end – in this case changing the demographics and voting patterns of the American electorate – justifies the means: sacrificing the innocent lives of unaccompanied minor children and desperate adults, lured into the nightmare of an overland “middle passage” by a president without empathy or compassion towards those whose suffering he and his administration have caused.

Burdening working- and middle-class Americans with the bill for these callous policies, while exposing them to the predations of the thousands of criminals who slip into the country undetected is simply unconscionable. It is also politically counter-productive. So insensitive are Democrats to the needs and lives of ordinary Hispanic Americans they didn’t foresee the actual electoral consequences of their schemes which have alienated large segments of their Hispanic-American constituencies.

A Tsunami of Violent Crime

The same immoral calculus lies behind the Democrats’ sponsorship of the record crime waves unleashed in America’s major cities following the death in police custody of fentanyl addict and career criminal George Floyd on May 25, 2020. Floyd’s death – along with dozens of others – was deliberately mis-represented as a racial killing despite the fact that no evidence was ever presented that the arresting officers were motivated by a racial animus. Indeed, one of the indicted officers was black, one Asian, and one married to a “woman of color” making such a charge preposterous on its face. In a little noted interview following the verdict, the chief prosecutor on the case, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison was asked by Sixty Minutes whether there was a racial element to the death of Floyd, who had just ingested 4 times the lethal dose of his favorite drug prior to his encounter with the police. The attorney general’s answer: “No. We couldn’t find one…. We don't have any evidence that Derek Chauvin [the white officer who had pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck] factored in George Floyd's race as he did what he did.”[30]

Disregarding the facts in the case, the criminal organization Black Lives Matter launched a national “campaign” to punish both police and ordinary citizens for an alleged scourge of racist terror directed at innocent blacks. It was the greatest racial hoax ever perpetrated in this country, and led directly to the greatest eruption of civic violence on record. There were violent riots in nearly 220 cities,[31] arsons and assaults resulting in $7 billion in property damage,[32] and the killing ultimately of thousands of individuals not only in the immediate line of fire from violent street rioters but also as a result of the “Defund the Police” movement spearheaded by Black Lives Matter, national leaders of the Democrat Party, and Democrat mayors and city council members in America’s major urban centers.

This anti-law-enforcement campaign was amplified by unfounded charges of “systemic racism” against police departments by leading Democrats beginning with Biden and including local leaders of Democrat-run cities, which were often headed by black Americans. These officials further burdened local law enforcement and demoralized officers by instituting policies of “no cash bail” and releasing tens of thousands of convicted criminals from state prisons and local jails. In the process, they created a pro-crime culture that led directly to unprecedented levels of violent crimes against law-abiding, vulnerable citizens.

Abetted by a “progressive” press that suppressed video evidence of the left-wing violence, and presented the riots as “mainly peaceful,” the protests created a lynch mob mentality in which verdicts preceded and eventually supplanted due process, so that President Biden announced he was “praying for the right verdict” on the eve of the Chauvin trial in 2021, in which a verdict of innocence would inevitably produce more violent riots as everyone knew. Amidst this officially inspired hysteria, armed career criminals resisting arrest were portrayed as victims of a savage race war against innocent black victims, while the fact that they were engaged in the criminal act of resisting arrest was barely mentioned in media reports. Most notoriously, Breona Taylor was portrayed as a martyr “murdered in her sleep” when she was actually standing in a hallway next to her boyfriend who was firing his gun at the police who had arrived with a warrant for Taylor’s arrest.

As a predictable result of this lynch mob hysteria, in the year of Floyd’s death the increase in the U.S. murder rate was the largest since 1905, and possibly ever, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control. The rise in the nation’s murder rate in 2020, even exceeded the 20% increase measured in 2001, which was driven by the terrorist attacks of 9/11.[33] In total, the anti-law-enforcement hysteria promoted by Democrats, and their pro-criminal policies has resulted in nearly 5,000 additional homicides every year since 2019.[34] The overwhelming majority of these homicides were committed by blacks against other blacks.

Unleashing violent criminals on innocent, law-abiding citizens, while at the same time defaming and crippling law enforcement agencies reflects such indecency, such callous disregard for human life and law-abiding behaviors that it is hard to imagine a major party in a democracy supporting such efforts. Or manifesting the level of contempt they reflect for the very people whose interests the Democrats are constantly claiming to defend and champion.

Abort the Court and the Constitution

Unfortunately, in the last six years Democrats’ contempt for the lives and efforts of ordinary Americans has grown into an assault on the democratic system itself, and not just alleged abuses of that system. The Democrats’ response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is emblematic of the Democrats’ corrosive view of the Constitution as an outdated and disposable instrument when it doesn’t serve their immediate purposes.

The Court’s decision to reject Roe v. Wade was met not with legal counter arguments but with widespread calls to reverse the result whether by legislative measures or thuggish and illegal campaigns of intimidation against the justices who argued that Roe had been unconstitutionally decided. The unconstitutional measures supported by the Democrats were accompanied by a long-planned and long-discredited campaign to have the party in power in the executive branch pack the Court with pro-Roe justices and turn it into an appendage of the ruling party. This “nuclear” remedy would destroy the independence of the judiciary forever, and with it the system of checks and balances that is the heart of the constitutional order that has shaped this country’s legal system and defended its freedoms for over 200 years.

The Democrats’ view of the constitutional order as disposable was also manifest in its years of attacks on Voter ID’s and the general integrity of the election system through reforms that would make it more vulnerable to voter fraud.

An even more sinister aspect of the Democrat Party’s war on America’s constitutional order has been its support for Marxist race theory, which dismisses the Constitution as a “white supremacist” document that people are bound not to respect because it is the alleged basis of the systemic racism that has oppressed black Americans from the time of their arrival in Virginia in 1619. The nomination and appointment to the Supreme Court of Ketanji Jackson Brown, a believer in Critical Race Theory, and thus its contempt for the Constitution, which as a Supreme Court Justice she has sworn to defend, is a measure of how dangerous this movement has become.[35]

The attack on the social contract under which Americans have attempted to live for more than 200 years is the core of the current crisis, and its issues like the Roe v. Wade decision. It explains why progressives are so uninterested in the Roe argument itself – i.e., the actual merits of the case. It is why they are so ready to dispense with due process, with the agreement to live by a neutral set of rules and deliberative resolutions when an impasse is reached. It is why they are so ready to support mob rule, and to replace reasoned argument with intimidation. Their guide is not the reasoned process on which the Constitution insists, but the pursuit of a “re-imagined” future, based on untested and discredited ideas.

Trump Derangement & the One-Party State

When looked at from this perspective, the 2016 election of Donald Trump represented an existential threat to the progressive agenda. Progressives responded with a scorched earth “Resistance” to a duly elected president. This took the form of an unprecedented campaign of character assassination designed to delegitimize the new president, his administration, and the 63 million Americans who had voted for him. It was in fact a frontal assault on American democracy and the two-party system that sustains it.

It began with a coordinated attack, spear-headed by politically corrupted intelligence agencies, to tar Trump as a colluder with the Russians – a traitor – and also a “white supremacist” and therefore “unfit for office.” The damage these lies did over the next four years to the authority of the president, and thus to the nation he headed, is incalculable. But even the exposure of these lies – which were actually the product of a collusion between the Hillary Clinton campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Kremlin - did nothing to stem the tidal wave of slander directed at Trump and the 63 million “racists” and “deplorables” who had voted for him.

There have been four presidential impeachments in the 250 odd years since the Constitution created the procedure. Half of them have been directed against Trump, whose four-year term was by any measure one of the most successful administrations in the history of the nation - attested to by the fact that he is the only incumbent president ever to receive more votes – eleven million more, in fact – in his re-election bid than he received the first time.

And even this understates the effort to smear and slander him and his supporters.

Democrats even tried to impeach Trump after he left office. This effort made no sense except that the virulent hatred directed at him was not just to remove him from the White House but to bury him as a political figure– to block the 74 million Americans who had voted for him in 2020 from returning him to office. It was a campaign to end democracy as we know it, and replace it with a one-party state.

Just before the Senate failed to convict Trump in February 2021, the new Senate Majority Leader, Democrat Chuck Schumer, publicly vowed that if the Senate convicted Trump, he would hold a vote to block Trump from ever holding public office again. The legal basis for such a ban would be a questionable interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment, which was designed to prevent leaders of the Confederacy who had engaged in an armed rebellion from holding office in the government against which they had declared war. It was as though the Democrats had no filters for their Trump hatred, the relentless themes of whose presidency had been patriotic—to put “America First,” and “Make America Great Again.”

Senator Tim Kaine filed his own resolution not only to censure Trump but to bar him, under the same clause in the Fourteenth Amendment, from ever holding public office again.[36] Even this was not enough for Democrats on the warpath. Thirteen House Democrats sponsored a bill that would have barred the federal government from naming any buildings or monuments after Trump and would also have prevented him from being buried at Arlington National Cemetery.[37] Representative Linda Sánchez (D-California) went a step further and introduced a “No Glory for Hate Act” that would bar Trump from receiving his federal pension, office space, and paid staff, as other former presidents have. According to the Washington Times, Sánchez said Trump’s name should not even be permitted to appear on a park bench.[38]

When Pelosi created a House Committee to investigate the January 6 events, she appointed the Trump-hating Republican Liz Cheney as its Vice Chair. Cheney described the mission of the Committee in these revealing words: “At this moment, we are confronting a domestic threat that we have never faced before. And that is a former president who is attempting to unravel the foundations of our constitutional republic. And he is aided by Republican leaders and elected officials who have made themselves willing hostages to this dangerous and irrational man.”[39]

“Deranged” doesn’t even begin to describe the manic disconnects of these hate tantrums, which culminated in the formation of the U.S. House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol – a protest described by Democrats as “an armed insurrection” to overthrow the United States government, even though no arms were found on the demonstrators and no one among those arrested was charged with attempting to overthrow the government.

Even the most common charge against the convicted protesters – trespassing – was concocted, since the extensive video-tapes provided by the Capitol security cameras showed Capitol Police willfully escorting crowds of protesters into the building. This was of a piece with the Committee’s official description of itself as “bi-partisan,” when all nine members had voted to impeach Trump, and Speaker Pelosi had denied House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy the right to select his own representatives or to have defense counsel present and due process observed, as had been the case with every previous Committee investigation in the nation’s history.

The Democrats couldn’t afford to allow a defense of those attacked by the Committee as “insurrectionists” who had carried out the worst crime against their country since 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. They couldn’t allow a response because the dark charade they were staging, consigning mainly middle-aged, law-abiding and patriotic Americans distressed by the massive irregularities in the 2020 election to months and even years of solitary confinement. Two of those individuals, charged with trespassing, were so depressed by the humiliating charges and conditions of their imprisonment that they committed suicide.[40]

But the main reason dissent on the Committee couldn’t be tolerated was that the charge that Trump was guilty of inciting an insurrection to overturn the election was transparently a farce. In his “Stop the Steal” speech at the Ellipse, Trump had spelled out his plan for the protests. His supporters were to go “peacefully and patriotically” to the Capitol to stiffen the spines of “weak Republicans” so that they would vote to decertify the electors, as Jamie Raskin and other leading Democrats had done four years before.[41] If they failed, and Biden was made president, they were to go back to their districts and primary the weak Republicans so that the theft of the election would not be repeated. Period.

On January 3rd – three days before his speech – Trump had met with the Secretary of Defense and General Milley in the White House to discuss security issues. According to the report of the Pentagon Inspector General, at the meeting, Trump offered to provide national guard troops to protect the Capitol.

“[Defense Secretary] Miller and GEN Milley met with the President at the White House at 5:30 p.m.,” the IG reported. “At the end of the meeting, the President told Mr. Miller that there would be a large number of protestors on January 6, 2021, and Mr. Miller should ensure sufficient National Guard or Soldiers would be there to make sure it was a safe event. Gen Milley told us that Mr. Miller responded, ‘We’ve got a plan and we’ve got it covered.’”[42] On January 6, there were no national guards present to keep the event safe as Trump had proposed.

The most important questions that the January 6th hearings were designed notto answer were these: “What was the role played by the federal government in the break-in of the Capitol on that date? Was the break-in enabled by the Democrat Party to further its goals of persuading the Justice Department to file a criminal indictment against Trump, bury him as a political figure, and tarnish the mass movement he had inspired?

A question of equal moment would be: How much injustice against the innocent is the Democrat Party prepared to tolerate and sanction to achieve its ends? Four people who were present at the Capitol on January 6 died during the protest.[43] All of them were Trump supporters, and three of them died of medical emergencies. A fifth -- Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick – died the following day. But Democrats attempted to portray these individuals – without evidence – as victims of the “Trump insurrection.” To accomplish this, they spread the falsehood that Officer Sicknick – an ardent Trump supporter -- was killed by a blow to the head from a fire extinguisher during the protest.[44] In fact, Sicknick died at home in his bed of natural causes the day after the Capitol event. But the lie was repeated by Democrats many times after it was corrected, including by the January 6 Committee Chair, Democrat Bennie Thompson.

If the Democrat Party was so ruthless as to place people charged merely with a suspected count of trespassing in solitary confinement for months on end to the point where they committed suicide, what injustice would it not countenance in the service of its agendas? This question was raised in the most disturbing manner by the cold-blooded murder of Ashli Babbitt, a 40-year-old air force veteran. The murder of Babbitt, who was unarmed and threatening no one, was captured on video-tape along with three officers who seemed intent on not noticing the crime committed within arms-length of where they were standing.

Babbitt’s killer was Capitol Police officer Michael Byrd, who had a record of recklessness with his weapon. Pelosi concealed his identity for weeks on end, while she worked to see that no charges were filed against the killer, and then that the case would disappear. The only way to describe this is that the Speaker of the House is an accomplice to murder, as are all the members of the January 6 Committee whose mission is ostensibly to get to the truth of what happened in the Capitol on that date. Not a single Democrat is on record objecting to this atrocity, or seeking to get answers as to what transpired.

The Democrats are a party that has lost its way. Its moral standard is “the ends justify the means,” which is no moral standard at all. In other words, it lacks a moral compass, which is why the nation that it runs lacks one too.
