Defense Minister Benny Gantz reportedly seeks to expand plans to build 1,300 homes for Palestinians living in Area C.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz is reportedly seeking to implement several measures to strengthen the Palestinian Authority economy in the coming weeks, Channel 12 News reports.

One of the aims is to approve the construction of additional housing for Palestinians living in Area C of the West Bank, in addition to the 1,300 housing units that are expected to be authorized on Sunday.

Israel is also reportedly legalizing the status of more undocumented Palestinians, after 4,000 were regularized last week, mostly in the West Bank.

In October, Israel announced that it will issue an additional 9,000 work permits to Palestinians, according to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

Many West Bank Palestinians employed in the construction industry will thus be allowed to work in Israel, in accordance with the government's decision to increase the quota of Palestinian workers by 15,000.

Some 120,000 Palestinians have so far been granted Israeli work permits, including 30,000 to work in Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

According to Channel 12 News, Gantz will visit Washington for talks on the issue next month with the approval of the construction of a new site on the agenda.
