To Ilhan Omar, America isn’t a safe haven from the tribal and religious wars of her homeland. It is, instead, the source of all evil in the world.
America took in Ilhan Omar and her family after they first escaped tribal and religious warfare in their native country of Somalia and then spent several years in a refugee camp. Once here, Omar’s father eventually worked for the government. Omar herself attended public schools, worked at a public institution, and then was elected to one of the highest offices in the land.
Given all those truly inestimable blessings, one would think Omar would feel at least a modicum of gratitude to the United States. Anyone thinking that would be wrong.
A video has emerged of Omar speaking at a Democracy Now! and Rising Majority event held in Washington, D.C. on Friday. The video picks up with Omar talking about American foreign policy. Her point during the four-minute video is that Americans are so selfish that they fail to realize that everything they do has a negative effect on the rest of the world:
Omar begins by acknowledging that most people, when they see refugees, think that something bad must have happened to those people in their homeland, leading them to take refuge in America. But we’re wrong in thinking that way. Instead, she says, we must ask ourselves “What American policy made them come over here?” As Omar continues, it’s clear that she’s not talking about policies that make America a magnet for everyone in the world who seeks success. Instead, she’s blaming America for all the world’s ills.
Whenever people become refugees because the earth’s climate changes, Omar says it’s America’s fault:
When you see flooding happening in a country abroad and you are urgently raising money for these lives to be saved, you don't think about, ‘How have I contributed to the climate warming that has led to these floodings and these catastrophes that are taking place abroad? If local foreign wars result in dead civilians, that’s America’s fault too. In those cases, we must “think about people who are using the weapons that are created in this country to take the lives of innocent children and women and men abroad.”
Even international trade is toxic when America is involved:
She also argued that Americans should worry about jobs going overseas not because that reduces employment opportunities for them, but rather because it means people in countries such as Mexico will be subjected to the exploitative practices of American corporations.Omar doesn’t just bite the hand that feeds her; she gnaws up the arm, sinks her teeth into the jugular, and feasts on the blood. It’s easy to come up with theories about her hatred for the land that gave her succor but the reason doesn’t matter. The fact is that she hates this country and is in a position of power and influence to effect change (all negative) in America.
Thankfully, there is an option if people in her district will get out and vote. Dalia al-Aqidi is another Muslim woman who was forced out of her war-torn homeland (in her case, Iraq) and found refuge in America. al-Aqidi, however, is cut from a very different cloth. She loves America. She loves its freedoms and cherishes its institutions.
al-Aqidi kicked off her campaign with a powerful video showing how important America is to her and how she hopes to serve it in Congress – sitting in the seat that Omar has used to lob attacks against the nation that rescued her:
