"The church should not be promoting this," one angry attendee said.

St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Manhattan is hosting an art exhibit titled "God is Trans: A Queer Spiritual Journey."

The display by artist Adah Unachukwu describes a queer spiritual journey in the steps of Sacrifice, Identity and Communion, The New York Post reported Sunday.

A spokesman for the Archdiocese of New York said he was unaware of the exhibit and declined to comment to the Post.

The church, which also hosts the "Out at St. Paul" LGBTQ+ ministry, is receiving mixed reviews about the exhibit from parishioners.

"The church should not be promoting this," one angry attendee told the Post. "I understand there are transgender people. I pray for all people but enough is enough. It seems like they are trying to force the agenda on others."

Cherri Ghosh, 80, had a positive view of the exhibit.

"I don’t understand the art, but this church is very liberal, which is why I love this church," she said. "They are really in the present when others are not."

Pope Francis has warned on multiple occasions against gender ideology, which he says is "extremely dangerous" and part of a "nefarious path."

The Vatican opposes gender reassignment but acknowledges that views of the transgender community may change from different parishes.
