US forces departed the al-Tanf military base in eastern Syria, relocating troops stationed there to Jordan, two Syrian military sources told Agence-France Presse on Wednesday.

"American forces withdrew entirely from al-Tanf base today," a Syrian military source told Agence France-Presse.

US forces had been removing equipment from the base for the past 15 days, another Syrian military source told the outlet.

The US forces would "continue to coordinate with [personnel in al-Tanf] from Jordan," the second source added.

The al-Tanf base is strategically located in the tri-border area of Syria, Jordan, and Iraq. It was established in 2014 as a key hub for operations by the global coalition against Islamic State terrorists.

The base was used to host the evacuated injured soldiers and personnel following an ISIS attack in December.

US personnel have also been posted in Jordan for decades, and the forces departing al-Tanf are likely to join an existing US military base in the kingdom.

Iranian MP threatens US bases, urges Jordanians to seize control of air base amid rising tensions

Earlier this month, a Tehran MP threatened US forces in Jordan, calling on Jordanian "fighting brothers" to take control of a US military base in the kingdom.

Mojtaba Zarei, who has an account in both Farsi and Arabic, posted his call to action in both languages, noting that the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base was utilized for operations countering "Iranian missiles and in protecting Tel Aviv and the Zionist cannibals," during the Israel-Iran war in June.

"It has turned into the most important American base in the world-devouring empire, and a partner of Israel," he claimed.

"Prepare yourselves to seize it and take American soldiers captive after the missiles strike this base," he concluded, hinting towards an Iranian missile strike targeting US military facilities across the Middle East.
