"The student chapters must be deactivated."
Last week we exposed statements of support for Hamas by Students for Justice in Palestine chapters.
Students for Justice in Palestine hailed the Hamas rape of girls, murder of babies and kidnapping of children as a “historic win for the Palestinian resistance”.
The national organization which has 200 chapters on campuses across North America put out a ‘toolkit’ which explained that the Jewish victims were “not civilians” and could be freely targeted.
Its poster for a ‘Day of Resistance’ featured an image of the paraglider that Hamas terrorists had used to massacre and rape young Israelis at a music festival.
Students for Justice in Palestine has a long track record of antisemitism and support for terrorism and yet it claims a presence on some 200 campuses.
Now that may be short a few.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, in coordination with the chancellor of the state’s university system, has moved to crack down on student groups in the state they say have expressed support for “Hamas terrorism,” which possibly involves terminating the student chapters and suspending school administrators.
The letter states that a student group present in at least two universities in the Florida system, known as National Students for Justice in Palestine (National SJP), published a “toolkit” that refers to the Hamas operation as “the resistance” and says that “Palestinian students in exile are PART of this movement, not in solidarity with this movement.
The letter explains that it is a “felony under Florida law to knowingly provide material support … to a designated foreign terrorist organization.
“These chapters exist under the headship of the National Students for Justice in Palestine, who distributed a toolkit identifying themselves as part of the Operation AlAqsa Flood,” Rodrigues writes.
“Based on the National SJP’s support of terrorism, in consultation with Governor DeSantis, the student chapters must be deactivated. These two student chapters may form another organization that complies with Florida state statutes and university policies. The two institutions should grant these two chapters a waiver for the fall deadlines, should reapplication take place.”
More states need to start doing it. SJP crossed a major line with its endorsement of terrorism. Public universities should not be hosting, let alone funding with student fees, violent hate groups aligned with terrorists. We don’t have KKK chapters on college campuses, yet we somehow have 200 chapters of SJP. Colleges have banned fraternities, but they continue to welcome a group that celebrates the mass murder of civilians.
Governors should be taking action instead of tolerating terror.
Here’s one example from Wayne State University in Michigan.
At a May 15, 2021 rally held at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan by Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), speakers praised Palestinian armed struggle against Israel. One speaker said that “Palestine is the headquarters of the Arab revolution” and called upon participants to support the right of “all the Palestinians and Arabs to resist by any means necessary […] even by armed struggle.” She said: “We must tell them [Israel] that there is a price to pay for the death of our martyrs.” Another speaker said that Palestinians only target Israeli “militant posts” with their rockets. He added that “these are our people […] they are doing something we can’t do.” Video of the rally was posted on the Instagram account of Wayne State University’s SJP chapter on May 15 and 20, 2021.
Wayne State University is a public university. Terrorism does not belong there. Or at any American university. Or in America.
