House advances ‘big, beautiful bill’ toward final vote, setting stage for major Trump triumph - John Solomon

Procedural vote puts legislation on track for final passage by July 4 deadline set by Trump.

After marathon hours of haggling and backroom negotiations, the House voted early Thursday to advance Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill" to a final vote, leaving the president at the threshold of securing his signature legislative agenda by the Fourth of July.

Holdout fiscal conservatives appeared to fall in line as the chamber voted 219-213 in the wee hours of the morning to begin debate on the legislation that delivers trillions in tax cuts for Americans, makes the first significant cuts in federal spending in decades, and fundamentally reshapes the size and scope of federal government with initiatives like Medicaid and food stamp reform.

The lone Republican holdout to join with Democrats in voting against advancing the bill was moderate Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa.

While the bill still faces hurdles during the debate, the procedural vote Thursday was a strong signal that Trump could score the major legislative victory by the Independence Day deadline he aimed for in recent weeks. It also was a major win for House Speaker Mike Johnson, who navigated warring factions inside the Republican caucus.

The president implored Republicans to rally around the bill despite individual grievances, applying maximum pressure in posts on his Truth Social account.

"Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for???" Trump wrote on social media a few hours before the vote. "What are you trying to prove??? MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!"
