"Did our government receive intelligence that suggested Secretary Clinton had approved a plan to tie President Trump to Russia?"
When the Durham report was released, former FBI Director Comey dismissed it as a “nothingburger”.
“There’s nothing new,” Comey whined. “So my reaction honestly is – an enormous waste of time and taxpayer money to give us a nothingburger.”
In Durham’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee, he came in determined to make several points. One of them was that, “the FBI relied on the dossier in FISA warrant applications knowing that it likely originated from the Clinton campaign. It did so even after the President of the United States, the FBI and CIA Directors, and others received briefings about intelligence suggesting that there was a Clinton campaign plan under way to stir up a scandal tying Trump to Russia. The accuracy of the intelligence was uncertain, but the FBI failed to analyze or assess the implications of this intelligence in any meaningful way.”
The same issue was raised during questioning.
“In the summer of 2016, did our government receive intelligence that suggested Secretary Clinton had approved a plan to tie President Trump to Russia?” Jordan asked.
“Yes,” replied Durham.
“Did [then-FBI Director James Comey] share it with the agents on the case, working the Crossfire Hurricane case?” Jordan later asked.
“No,” Durham replied.
“Did [Comey] share it with the agents…working the Crossfire Hurricane case?!”
“No.”
“Can you tell the committee what happened when you took that referral memo, and shared it with one of those agents?”
“He indicated he had never seen it before. He immediately became emotional…”
Comey had signed off on a black box. Well aware that the basis for Russiagate was tainted, that it was an opposition research ploy, he kept that information from the FBI and badly compromised the investigation.
That’s the nothingburger.
