Iran has arrested 26 people on charges of collaboration with Israel, Kurdistan24 in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan Region, and UAE-based Al-Ain media reported.

Ostensibly, the arrests were linked to news in Israel that “commandos” had operated in Iran during the war, the reports said. In all probability, Iran had already arrested the suspects prior to the Israeli reports.

Nevertheless, based on an AFP report, the Iranian announcement came shortly after [IDF Chief of Staff] Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir revealed that Israeli special forces had operated inside Iranian territory during the conflict,” Kurdistan24 reported. “Iranian intelligence services have arrested 26 individuals accused of collaborating with Israel during the recent 12-day war between the two countries, Iranian state media reported Wednesday.”

The 26 people arrested were detained in Khuzestan province in southeastern Iran, Al-Ain media reported.

According to the Kurdistan24 report, “The arrests were carried out by the Intelligence Organization of the Hazrat Vali Asr Corps, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iranian Fars news agency said.”

Iran cracking down on minorities, executing people

Iran is carrying out a major crackdown in the wake of the war. It began during the 12-day conflict.

Iran has been executing people and arresting minorities. It has cracked down on Kurds, especially, arresting numerous Kurds in Iran. Kurds are one of several large minority groups, along with Azeris, Balochis, and Arabs, in Iran.

“These individuals were identified as operatives and deceived participants in the recent imposed war by the Zionist regime,” Fars reported. “Most of them have confessed to their actions, including anti-security activities, spreading public anxiety, and acts of sabotage.”

Kurdistan24 reported: “Earlier on Wednesday, Iran also announced the execution of three men accused of spying for Israel. Tehran frequently reports the detention and execution of individuals allegedly connected to foreign intelligence agencies, particularly Israel’s Mossad.”

Al-Ain media reported: “In the same context, the head of the Iranian judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, announced that trials in cases of ‘espionage and collaboration with Israel’ would be expedited.”

Iran has vowed to crack down firmly on what it claims is a “fifth column” of conspirators.
