Israel is still working to establish a final profile of Hammami to determine whether he acted as a ‘lone wolf,’ was affiliated with any organization, or was sent directly by Iran.

The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) is taking part in the interrogation of Omani co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami, who attempted to hijack a flydubai flight to Israel, The Jerusalem Post learned on Monday.

According to initial reports from the investigation, which is taking place in the United Arab Emirates, Hammami is said to have stabbed the flight’s captain with a cockpit emergency axe and attempted to seize a flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday, with the intent of harming some 166 Israelis on board.

Israel is still working to establish a final profile of Hammami to determine whether he acted as a ‘lone wolf,’ was affiliated with any organization, or was sent directly by Iran.

His interrogation revealed that he sought revenge for what he described as the “genocide in Gaza,” sources say.

Following reports that his intent was to crash the aircraft into Ben-Gurion Airport, sources from the interrogation also said he had prepared a backup plan to crash the plane into the US military base in Jordan, which has been targeted by Iran on multiple occasions over the past year.

IAF officer: 'I couldn't be calm' until incident ended

Earlier on Monday, several IAF officers told Walla about their experiences during the incident, with tensions remaining high in the air force operations room amid Israeli media reports of a dispute between the pilots.

"Until we receive information that the aircraft has actually landed safely and that the incident is really over, nothing is fine," said IAF aerial image identification officer, Lt. N. "Until they announced that the rescue flight had departed, or that the Israeli civilian passengers had boarded the rescue flight, I couldn't be calm."

Amir Bohbot contributed to this report.
