The Slippery Slope of Speech Suppression at CUNY - David Seidermann

by David Seidermann

The dire consequences of violating students' First Amendment rights.

Reprinted from jamesgmartin.center.

Public universities morally should and legally must uphold free speech. Unfortunately, the university where I’ve taught for 43 years has a very bad record, and matters are getting worse.

The City University of New York (CUNY) has a long history of speech suppression, as a sampling of legal cases at its various campus units reveals. For example, in 2007, a federal appeals court ruled that the College of Staten Island’s president violated students’ First Amendment rights when she nullified a student election; in a 2017 court settlement, Queens College administrators agreed to reverse their arbitrary decision to deny official recognition of a pro-life group litigation.

The administration of Brooklyn College has been particularly aggressive in suppressing speech. This is illustrated in a series of court cases involving students who were attempting to stop the college from collecting a mandatory fee in support of the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), an off-campus, liberal lobbying group.

In 1996, the college arbitrarily canceled a referendum on the issue. A New York court ordered it reinstated. In 1997, the college blocked a similar referendum based on the (risible) claim that the students running it had libeled NYPIRG in a campaign poster by portraying the group as a rat. The college agreed to rescind that decision in a federal court stipulation. In 1998, the college refused to allow students to even start petitioning for a referendum, but a federal court ordered the college to permit petitioning. In 2001, the college refused to allow students all the allowed time for petitioning. That too was reversed in a federal court stipulation.

Those cases are remarkable not only because of how blatantly administrators violated the students’ First Amendment rights but also because of how the students obtained their legal victories. In each of the court cases, students acted as their own attorneys, beating attorneys from the state attorney general’s office. That amateurs repeatedly bested professionals in court is an indication of how obvious the college’s violations were.

Some of Brooklyn College’s violations of speech rights never made it to court, but they are nonetheless noteworthy. For example, in 2013, security officers removed four pro-Israel students from a forum on the movement to boycott, divest, and sanction Israel. A college administrator told reporters that the removal was “based on official reports” that the students had been disruptive. A subsequent investigation proved (based on audio tapes) that there had been no disruption. The college had violated the students’ rights by removing them without cause and had defamed them with false accusations.

More generally, the administration’s actions against the pro-Israel students sent a message to the campus community that holding some viewpoints carries with it a risk of official retribution.

Sometimes CUNY administrators use more subtle means to undermine free speech. This can be illustrated by Brooklyn College’s response to posters placed around campus by the David Horowitz Freedom Center in 2017. Those posters labeled two of the college’s professors as terrorist supporters, a view that is not only constitutionally protected (because it falls short of incitement) but is also arguably true. (The professors had been arrested while demonstrating in support of a Gaza government led by Hamas, a group designated as a terrorist organization by both the United States and the European Union.)

The president of Brooklyn College, Michelle J. Anderson, did not regard the posters as protected speech, however. She characterized them as “targeted intimidation” designed to “defame and silence specific individuals.” She built on that premise to assert that members of the college have a right “to express political opinions in an atmosphere free from hate and intimidation.”

Her assertion that the opinions of Brooklyn College professors deserve more protection than those of the Freedom Center is at odds with First Amendment case law, which mandates that public institutions maintain viewpoint neutrality. As president Anderson would have it, Brooklyn College professors should be free to share their political opinions with students without having to defend their thinking against provocative (but protected) viewpoints that originate off campus.

The consequence of shielding campuses from controversial political thoughts (whether from off-campus posters or guest speakers) is predictable: the reinforcement of group-think. If CUNY administrators repeatedly and willfully violate First Amendment rights, is it any surprise that CUNY students fail to grasp the value of free speech and the legal protection that it is afforded?

Sure enough, last year there were three noteworthy student-led campaigns targeting the protected speech of wrong-thinking faculty. Two of those campaigns comprised standard demonstrations and letters demanding that action be taken by college administrators. The third, however, represents a noteworthy and very troubling escalation.

One campaign targeted professor Mitchell Langbert of Brooklyn College. He had posted an essay on his blog about the Kavanaugh hearings that critics labeled as pro-rape. Professor Langbert defended his obviously satirical take on the issue (“In the future, having committed sexual assault in high school ought to be a prerequisite for all appointments, judicial and political.”) by claiming that it was designed to provoke a debate on free speech. Rather than prompting thoughtful discussion, however, professor Langbert’s blog piece triggered the usual “fire him” demonstration.

A second campaign targeted professor Rohit Parikh, also of Brooklyn College. He had posted a controversial view on Facebook, writing in support of legal immigration but advocating the deportation of all those in the U.S. illegally. He touched off the firestorm by stating, “Hispanics are GOOD people…But are they really the population which America needs for the rest of this century when more and more education is required?”

His critics labeled his thoughts a direct threat to undocumented students, rallied against him, and issued demands including an investigation of his views and “sensitivity training” for all faculty and staff.

Of course, the proposed penalties for professors Langbert and Parikh are proscribed by First Amendment protections at public universities such as CUNY. But that matters little on campuses these days. Using the heckler’s veto is pretty much the current norm for campus activists, who are ever vigilant against “unsafe” ideas, whether they originate from wrong-thinking faculty or conservative guest speakers.

The third anti-speech campaign at CUNY last year started out the same way as the others: An adjunct professor and administrator at CUNY’s Kingsborough Community College, Michael Goldstein, posted comments on his Facebook page that critics labeled racist, anti-Muslim, sexist, and so on. “Which Christian or Jew plowed their van into 20 people in London?” he asked, for example. That prompted the usual reaction. Activists, including a sociology professor, called for Goldstein’s firing.

But this campaign—detailed by Armin Rosen in The Tablet—significantly differed from the others both in length and nature: It has lasted for 10 months already and has involved vandalism and intimidation. Students banged on the windows and doors of Goldstein’s office, made harassing phone calls, and defaced a photo of his late father, a former Kingsborough president, with the words “kill Zionist entity” and “f*** Trump Goldstein.” Someone punctured the tires of a car owned by the chair of Goldstein’s department.

Those incidents were so alarming that the administration placed a security guard and surveillance cameras outside of Goldstein’s office.

That the peaceful demonstrators and the vandals at CUNY differ in their tactics should not obscure the fact that both share the same goal: firing faculty who express unpopular personal viewpoints.

I think it is reasonable to conclude that the attitude of CUNY administrators toward free expression influences the actions of anti-speech student activists. If the president of a public college asserts the campus community’s right to be free from hearing disagreeable but protected viewpoints, why wouldn’t student activists think that firing professors for their private opinions is constitutionally acceptable? And if CUNY administrators repeatedly and illegally act to suppress speech, why wouldn’t some activists see their own illegal actions (such as vandalism) as justified?

Simply put, the failure of college administrators to respect and enforce the right to free expression helps nurture the excesses of anti-speech activists. But suppositions need testing, and I see a way to test mine.

In 2015, the University of Chicago issued a statement and a set of rules in defense of free expression on its campus. Tens of other universities have adopted those principles. A comparison of student behavior regarding speech on “Chicago-type” campuses to their behavior on “safe space” campuses could prove instructive.

Of course, student behavior could improve at speech friendly campuses simply due to stricter enforcement of penalties for interfering with speech. I’d welcome improvement, even if coerced. But will student attitudes change? That answer could be determined with well-designed surveys comparing student attitudes over time at campuses with differing policies on free expression.

For those who still believe in the value of unfettered debate on campuses, the University of Chicago model might prove to be a valuable tool in helping reverse the slide toward speech suppression that is exemplified by recent events at CUNY.

Beware of Gantz's unilateralism - Nadav Shragai

by Nadav Shragai

Gantz believes the 2005 Disengagement Plan was not a disaster and can serve as a model for unilateral concessions. His view will help Hamas turn the West Bank into a rocket-launching platform.

In October 2018, three months before former IDF Chief of the General Staff Benny Gantz registered his new Israel Resilience Party, the Institute for National Security Studies published a new peace plan that had been in the works for two years.
Three former chiefs of staff helped draft the plan behind the scenes: Moshe Ya'alon, Gabi Ashkenazi and Gantz.
Anyone who compares Gantz's announcement speech to the plan will have a hard time telling the difference between the text: the security fence as the future border with the Palestinians; continued construction in the big settlement blocs;  keeping the Jordan Valley under Israeli control; ensuring freedom of operation for Israeli troops in Judea and Samaria, and deferring the issue of Jerusalem to the final stage.
But the Gantz-inspired plan also had another core tenet: progress in the peace process shall not be contingent on Palestinian cooperation. In other words, Israel will use international backing to move ahead with the plan whether or not the Palestinians sign off.
Sounds familiar?
In January, Gantz said: "If it turns out that peace is not within reach, we will shape a new reality." And over the weekend, in an interview with Yedioth Ahronoth, he said Israel must learn the lessons of the 2005 unilateral pullout from the Gaza Strip and northern Samaria  (the Disengagement Plan) "and implement them in other places."
In 2015, Alon Shuster, the former Shaar Hanegev Regional Council chief, sent a letter in which he summarized one of Gantz's speeches before a  community in the south.
Gantz, it turns out from that letter, has been very consistent in his views: "We are not going to be beholden to our fate – we are going to decide what happens. While we may not be able to decide for our neighbors, who refuse to step up to the plate, we must nevertheless take control over our lives."
Gantz recently said that he "won't take unilateral action to remove settlements" but even if we take him at his word, this does not negate the fact that he believes in other forms of unilateral action – for example, handing over unsettled areas to the Palestinians.
Gantz running mate Ya'alon wrote at length in his book how the 2005 pullout led to the unraveling of Israel's security. Yes, the very same Disengagement Plan Gantz said was carried out "lawfully" and "in a good way."
Ya'alon elaborates on how the pullout led to terrorist group Hamas creating "Hamastan" in the Gaza Strip, how the southern communities and other areas in Israel suddenly became within striking distance of long-range projectiles, how this brilliant unilateral step undid Israel's diplomatic gains, and how it provided momentum for terrorism and exposed Israel to threats that were manifold greater than prior to the plan.
Gantz presumably heard Ya'alon's analysis first hand, but he has nonetheless remained committed to unilateral action, no matter how convoluted his caveats sound.
A Palestinian state, regardless of how it comes about, is a threat to Israel's security. Transferring Israeli territory to Palestinians will threaten population centers and give a tailwind to terrorism, replicating the results of the Disengagement Plan.
Unilateral pullouts will help Saleh Arouri, deputy leader of Hamas' political wing, and other terrorists realize their dreams. "In the Gaza Strip," Arouri once said, "we managed to manufacture rockets despite the siege, and this can be replicated in the West Bank."
Arouri is but one example. There are many sleeper and active cells in Judea and Samaria who are just waiting for the opportunity to fulfill this dream. No matter how you slice and dice it – unilateral pullouts will handicap Israeli forces and reduce their freedom of operation. Just recall that in 2018, more than 400 major attacks were thwarted by Israeli security forces.
The measures Gantz is advocating will result in a calamity for Israel, just as the Disengagement Plan did.

Who Is Behind the “Green New Deal”? - Discover the Networks

by Discover the Networks

A look at the Sunrise Movement and its socialist dreams.

The Sunrise Movement (SM) is a 501(c)(4) environmental advocacy organization that, while denying that it is loyal to either “the right or left” side of the political spectrum, in fact throws its full support behind left-wing Democratic Party candidates and agendas. Most notably, SM endorses the enactment of a “Green New Deal,” environmental legislation whose multifaceted mission is to eliminate all fossil-fuel use from the U.S. economy (in favor of renewables like wind and solar energy) by the year 2030; create a “basic income program” and a federal jobs guarantee that would provide a “living wage” to every person who wants one; implement a government-run, single-payer health care system; and “transform our economy and society” in a manner that will restore its ecological and moral integrity.

Rooted in the premise that the greenhouse gas emissions associated with human industrial activity are a major cause of potentially catastrophic “climate change,” SM is composed chiefly of what it terms “an army of young people” who aim to take “immediate and decisive action to transform our energy system” and thereby address the “climate crisis” that threatens to consign humanity to “a future ravaged by wildfires, heatwaves, and hurricanes.” In pursuit of this objective, SM vows to “end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics.” That “handful of wealthy oil and gas executives,” says the organization, “will stop at nothing to squeeze the last bit of money out of the earth” – no matter how many “children must breathe toxic air,” or how many “parents must choose between a dangerous and polluting job, and no job at all.”

SM was launched in April 2017 by six principal co-founders. Two of those were former Wesleyan University students Matthew Lichtash and Evan Weber, both in their twenties, and the latter of whom had participated in the anti-capitalist Occupy Wall Street movement of 2011. During their student days at Wesleyan, Lichtash and Weber developed a friendship with then-visiting professor Michael Dorsey, a Club Of Rome member and former Sierra Club board member whom President Barack Obama had appointed to the EPA’s National Advisory Board in 2010 and 2012. In 2013, Dorsey, who likewise would eventually become one of SM's co-founders, used his influence to secure a $30,000 grant to help him and the two Wesleyan students write a plan outlining how climate change could most effectively be addressed; the Sierra Club's Washington D.C. branch allowed the trio to use its office as a home base. Within a few months, Dorsey, Lichtash, and Weber had produced a 35-page treatise emphasizing the need for carbon taxes, and in January 2014 they helped incorporate a new group called the U.S. Climate Plan.

Two additional SM co-founders were Sara Blazevic and Varshini Prakash, both members of the Fossil Fuel Divestment Student Network, an alliance that pressures universities and other institutions to divest their assets from the oil and gas industries. Prakash, for her part, seeks to galvanize “a rising tide of people” to combat “the greed and selfishness of wealthy men, of fossil-fuel billionaires who plunder our earth for profit.” By “build[ing] the largest youth political force this country has ever seen,” she hopes to “make a Green New Deal a political inevitability in America.”

The sixth major co-founder of SM was William Lawrence, a young man who argues that “a massive overhaul of [the] nation’s infrastructure and economy” is “exactly what we need to do.”

SM's first public appearance in 2017 was a climate protest in Washington, D.C., where its members promoted a “Sunrise Semesters” program that would permit college-age supporters to join the organization for one school semester to help promote Democratic political candidates committed to the Green New Deal. The first “Sunrise Semester” drew approximately 85 young volunteers who worked across five states during the 2018 election cycle.

During that same cycle, SM encouraged congressional Democrats to sign a pledge not to accept any campaign contributions from fossil fuel industries. One noteworthy backer of that pledge was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who subsequently proceeded to unseat a longtime incumbent Democrat from the U.S. House of Representatives in the November 2018 elections. According to SM co-founder Evan Weber, Ocasio-Cortez's presence gave the organization “added star power and firepower that took it through the roof.” As The New Yorker noted in December 2018, “Sunrise has established itself as the dominant influence on the environmental policy of the Democratic Party’s young, progressive wing.”

On November 13, 2018, More than 200 Sunrise Movement demonstrators staged a protest outside the office of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, to demand that Democrats make the battle against climate change a top priority beginning in January 2019. The protest was praised by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and resulted in 51 arrests.

In additional to mostly non-financial support from the Sierra Club and 350.org, SM has received monetary grants from the Wallace Global Fund, the Rockefeller Family Fund, and the Winslow Foundation. In 2018, approximately 55% of SM's donations derived from institutional funders, while 35% came from individual donors and 10% came from nonprofit partners.

The Women’s March, Farrakhan, and Black Anti-Semitism - Ben Cohen

by Ben Cohen

For decades, Farrakhan has promoted anti-Semitism in sermons, in media appearances, and in writing.

Last month on “The View,” Meghan McCain confronted women’s march co-president Tamika Mallory over her relationship with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan. Mallory had attended Farrakhan’s recent “Saviour’s Day” sermon. Mallory also posted a photo on Facebook of Farrakhan with his arm around her shoulder. Mallory captioned it, “Thank God this man is alive and doing well. He is definitely the GOAT. Happy Birthday @louisfarrakhan!”

After characterizing Farrakhan as an anti-Semite and a homophobe, View host Sunny Hostin asked Mallory, “Why call him the Greatest of all time?”

“I didn’t call him the greatest of all time because of his rhetoric; I called him the Greatest of All Time for what he’s done in black communities,” Mallory responded, to applause from the studio audience.
Meghan McCain spoke up, “Let me just interject really quickly, I would never be comfortable supporting someone who called.” McCain looked at her notes and quoted Farrakhan, “I’m not anti-Semite, I’m anti-termite. It’s the wicked Jews, the false Jews, who are promoting lesbianism and homosexuality.”

McCain went on to ask Tamika Mallory and her fellow marcher, Bob Bland, about a recent Tablet magazine expose of the Women’s March. The Tablet article alleged that Tamika Mallory and Carmen Perez had privately claimed that Jews were responsible for the North American slave trade, a view shared by Louis Farrakhan.

Mallory defended her relation with Farrakhan, “I don’t agree with many of Minister Farrakhan’s statements... I don’t agree with these statements... It’s not my language. It’s not the way that I speak. It is not how I organize.”

While Hostin and McCain exposed Tamika Mallory as at best indifferent to Farrakhan’s anti-Semitism, their line of questioning demonstrated a fundamental misunderstanding of Farrakhan’s ideology. Hostin and McCain appeared to equate Farrakhan’s attitude toward gays and lesbians with his attitude toward Jews, when they aren’t comparable.

“...the fornicator can’t look at the lesbian or the homosexual and say, “I’m better than you.” The liar, the thief, the gambler, the pimp, the prostitute, the lowlife, you can’t look at those who are gay or lesbian or transgender and say “I’m better than you.” Sin is sin, according to the standard of God. You say, “well that was back then...you know...I mean, it’s a modern time now.” Modern for you, but not for God.” -- Louis Farrakhan, 2012
While liberals and progressives would likely deride Farrakhan as homophobic, there is no comparison between his traditional “love the sinner, hate the sin,” attitude toward homosexuals and his virulent anti-Semitism.

Farrakhan’s 2018 Saviours’ Day sermon, which Tamika Mallory attended, touched on everything from sexual harassment in the workplace to the problem of obesity in the black community. However, Farrakhan saved his best for last. One and a half hours into his speech, Farrakhan launched into an extended rant against the Jews.
Jesus 2000 years ago was not the messiah. He was a prophet. He was the last prophet to the Jews. What Farrakhan? Yeah, I’m coming strong now. He was the last prophet to the house of Israel, the entire white race. They were made to raise hell. Everywhere they have gone, they have destroyed the peace of the human family...
At this point, it’s not clear whether Farrakhan is referring to the ancient Hebrews specifically, or the “white race” in general. The Nation of Islam teaches that white people are the result of a selective breeding program, a project carried out by a black scientist named Yakub and his followers.
In fact, he learned he was 2000 years too soon to end the civilization of the Jews. Wait, wait, now, end the civilization of the Jews? They the boss. This is their world. Oh wait, oh wait a minute, I know a few Jews, they’re not... see he’s an anti-Semite. Stop it, I’m a truth teller.
In accordance with Nation of Islam theology, Farrakhan teaches that blacks exist at the bottom of an unjust racial hierarchy. The white race, the final product of Yakub’s selective breeding process, sit at the top of this hierarchy. Further, within the white race, Jews form an elite that controls global affairs from behind the scenes.
You have German Jews, Polish Jews, Ukrainian Jews, Russian Jews, Lithuanian Jews, Estonian, Latvian, Denmark Jews, Sweden, Norway, Finland Jews. You have Italian Jews; you have French Jews, and everywhere they are, they take on the language, the culture, but they run the money. They run the business. When there’s a Jewish holiday, everything gets silent. They’re very wise people.
For decades, Farrakhan has promoted anti-Semitism, in sermons, in media appearances, and in writing. In his 2018 Saviour’s day speech, Farrakhan castigated Jews for rejecting Christ and accused them of promoting homosexuality in the black community. Despite his anti-Semitism, Farrakhan has avoided the type of ostracism that someone like David Duke experiences.

In his Saviour’s day speech Farrakhan bragged about his connection to various Black leaders, including Barack Obama and Keith Ellison. Farrakhan was invited to speak at the funerals of Rosa Parks and Aretha Franklin. While, few black politicians would publicly endorse Farrakhan, they haven’t treated him as a pariah.

Many liberals and African Americans attribute Farrakhan’s status in the black community to the Nation of Islam’s charitable works and message of black self-improvement. While there may be some truth to that, persistent anti-Semitism among African-Americans also contributes to Farrakhan’s popularity.

For decades, surveys have consistently found higher levels of anti-Semitism among African Americans than among white Americans. A 2013 ADL survey found that only 8% of non-Hispanic whites were anti-Semitic. By comparison, 12% of U.S.-born Hispanics, 22% of African-Americans, and 40% of foreign-born Hispanics were anti-Semitic, according to the ADL’s definition.

When discussing black anti-Semitism, it’s important to remember that the overwhelming majority of African-Americans are not anti-Semitic; 78% of blacks surveyed did not meet the ADL’s definition of anti-Semitic. Further, prominent African-Americans such as Henry Louis Gates have spoken out against black anti-Semitism, and some African-Americans could even be characterized as philo-Semitic.

With that being said, black anti-Semitism is a painful fact for Jewish Americans. Many Jews believe that because both blacks and Jews have suffered discrimination, blacks will be more sympathetic toward them. However, the evidence suggests that blacks are not particularly sympathetic toward Jews, or if they are sympathetic, it doesn’t translate into affection.

How Iran Deceived The U.S. Intelligence Community: Four Examples - Yigal Carmon and A. Savyon

by Yigal Carmon and A. Savyon

Ali Akbar Salehi, director of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) and a member of Iran's nuclear negotiating team, revealed in a January 22, 2019 interview that Iran had deceived the Americans and Europeans about the shutdown of the reactor

Introduction

On January 30, 2019, U.S. President Trump criticized the U.S. intelligence community's Worldwide Threat Assessment, released January 29, 2019, tweeting that it is "naïve" about the danger posed by Iran. MEMRI research in recent years shows that the Iranian regime deceived the American intelligence community a number of times; the MEMRI reports are based on openly available information released by the Iranians. The following are four examples:

The Plutonium Reactor At Arak

The Iranian regime deceived the U.S., the West, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about shutting down the plutonium reactor at Arak, as it was required to do under the JCPOA. Ali Akbar Salehi, director of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) and a member of Iran's nuclear negotiating team, revealed in a January 22, 2019 interview that Iran had deceived the Americans and Europeans about the shutdown of the reactor, saying that Iran had not filled the reactor core with cement, but had filled only external pipelines. He said: "We have been saying for three years now that we did not pour cement into the pit of the Arak heavy water reactor. If we had, the Arak heavy water reactor would have been ruined." He also revealed that the Iranians had secretly purchased other pipes to replace the cement-filled ones, and boasted that only one other person in Iran had been party to the deception – Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Had the other side known about the deception, he added, they would have demanded that the Iranians fill the replacement pipelines with cement as well.[3]

To view the clip of Salehi's statements on MEMRI TV, click here or below:

MDB177.JPG

Salehi revealed the deception at Arak in other interviews as well: in a January 15, 2019 interview with Iran's Tasnim news agency,[4] and in an August 22, 2017 television interview (see MEMRI Inquiry & Analysis No. 1341, Head Of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization: Only External Pipelines Of Arak Reactor Were Filled With Cement, Its Core Was Not; Within Five Days, We Can Begin Enriching Uranium To 20%, September 1, 2017).

Fatwa By Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei Banning The Development, Production, Possession, And Use Of Nuclear Weapons

The Obama administration espoused this alleged fatwa, despite the fact that no such fatwa exists, and no U.S. intelligence element ever addressed the fact that this fatwa does not exist. There would have been no secrecy constraints on stating that it does not exist.

See MEMRI reports on this subject:

The Military Dimension Of The Iranian Nuclear Program

The IAEA revealed in a quarterly report in 2011 that Iran's nuclear activity had a military dimension until 2003 and that some nuclear weapons development activity could still be ongoing in 2011.[5] Iran consistently refused to respond to all IAEA questions on the matter about these suspicions, and because of its refusal to fully cooperate with the IAEA, there were six UN Security Council resolutions against it, under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. The Obama administration, with IAEA cooperation, set out a framework for cooperation with Iran to close this Possible Military Dimensions (PMD) file.

American intelligence elements never publicly mentioned these suspicions, and thus allowed the file to be closed, according to the wishes of the White House.

The JCPOA's Flaw: Inspections Of Iranian Military And Other Sites Not Allowed

The JCPOA does not allow physical inspections at Iranian military camps or at other sites that the Iranian regime has not declared as nuclear sites. U.S. intelligence elements have never mentioned the fact that their assessments are lacking because of this.

Kudos to Sandy O - Deana Chadwell

by Deana Chadwell

The freshperson congresswombyn has made things clear -- things that have been vague and foggy are now utterly transparent.

I am guilty of speaking badly of the new congresswoman from New York. She is obviously the product of failing educational systems unable to do anything but pump her full of fatuous self-esteem. I’d lay odds she has a large box of participation trophies in her parents’ basement. Though it is fun to bash such a bashable subject, I write to thank her.

She has made things clear; things that have been vague and foggy are now utterly transparent. Many let slide Obama’s fuzzy promise to “fundamentally change” America. It was a little hazy -- he never elaborated on it and the media never asked him to. But Sandy O has laid it out -- very briefly. She’s let the cat out of the Democratic bag.

She and Sen. Edward Markey opened Pandora’s box this week and 70 prominent Democrats immediately signed on, including many of the recent presidential hopefuls. This woman is not a lone nut case, though she may be the only Democrat who actually believes this nonsense can be done.

What crawled out of Pandora’s box? Everything destructive.

This young woman wants to shut down American energy -- nuclear included. She seems not to worry about how we’ll heat our homes or cook our food or travel from one place to another. She’s utterly unaware that it takes a great deal of energy to grow crops, manufacture goods, and build houses. She plans on -- within 10 years -- getting rid of 99% of the gasoline-powered cars in this country.

She wants to stop of air travel and substitute high-speed rail -- which we don’t have, which has proved a disastrous waste of money in California, and which will make it tricky to cross oceans.

She wants the government to provide everyone, whether they work or not, with a guaranteed income, good housing, medical care, free education, and a vegan diet -- the latter to cure the problem of cow flatulence, which, if not stopped, will destroy the planet.

She wants -- and within 10 years -- all buildings in the country stripped down and retrofitted to make them energy efficient -- with what energy and with whose money, she doesn’t say. When asked how she would pay for this she replied, “We will finance the investments for the Green New Deal the same way we paid for the original New Deal, World War II, the bank bailouts, tax cuts for the rich, and decades of war -- with public money appropriated by Congress.” (Note the word “investments” -- like she’s proposing some new business enterprise.)

That clears that up -- it’s only government money, which we all know just grows on printing presses and computer hard drives. Venezuela’s 80,000% inflation rate doesn’t strike her as a cautionary tale and evidently her econ degree didn’t require a course in inflation and its causes and effects.

But I thank her. Her timing was impeccable. The country -- at least 72% of it -- had enjoyed President Trump’s triumphant State of the Union address earlier in the week. That speech resurrected pride in being an American. He talked about liberating Jewish Holocaust victims, about storming the beaches of Normandy, about curing childhood cancers, about protecting our southern borders. He reminded us of how prosperous the country has become in just two short years, and better yet, he helped us look ahead at the possibilities appearing on our national horizon. He talked about space exploration, innovations and inventions, medical breakthroughs, and soaring prosperity.

The speech was heartwarming, encouraging, hopeful, and it stirred again our pride in being a hard-working, imaginative, courageous people. It even opened the door for cooperation in Congress, making it seem like it just might be possible.

Enter Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her tribe of dreary henchmen. According to these “Justice Democrats” (justice???), the world will end in 12 years if we don’t plug the cows and quit breathing. That’s a cheery and inspiring vista. In her future America, we will all be some kind of government drones and will spend our days stumbling around town scrounging for food and waiting in lines for our government handouts. We won’t be able to go anywhere, or buy anything because nothing will be available to buy. We won’t be able to invent anything, make anything, or fix anything unless we can do so ex nihilo. We will be cold, bored, and utterly trapped. The government will control what we eat, what we do, what we learn.

Besides the terrifying future this lays out, nothing on Sandy O’s list of must-dos is even remotely possible. Rebuilding just the private homes in this country would have to be done at a pace of at the very least 120,000 houses a week for 10 nonstop years. And it would have to be done sans cars and trucks and oil and natural gas and any of the products produced using those items and commodities. And if the government is going to provide you with a living whether you want to work or not, who’s going to do the manual labor?

In fact, the whole labor thing is very unclear. You’ll be penalized with a 70% tax if you do something that is really successful, so why lift a finger? I have no idea who will be willing to do all this work. Doctors already hate what ObamaCare has done to the medical profession -- what will they do when faced with full-on socialized medicine? And just how does she think people and goods will get around?

I suspect she has little understanding of the vast regions of nearly uninhabited land one has to travel to cross this country -- it’s not all Brooklyn. Those of us who have crossed the Rockies and the deserts of this great land know that high-speed rails won’t cut it even if they could be built. Neither will electric cars; I can’t imagine plug-in stations dotting the barren highways in eastern Oregon.

On the other hand, Trump wants to see everyone working, inventing, producing, enjoying, and employing all the gifts God has bestowed on us. He wants us to treat every person with the love and respect due someone created in the image of God. He wants this for all American citizens regardless of race or ethnicity, of age, of religion, whether we’ve been born yet or not. Isn’t that what all Americans want? Isn’t that what decent people want?

We want freedom -- Americans have always wanted, fought, and died for freedom. Sandy O’s nightmare doesn’t allow for that. For one thing, it takes a certain level of prosperity before freedom means much. Sandy O’s vision is being played out in Venezuela; it’s not freedom when you have to eat the family dog. It’s not freedom when you can’t go where you want to go and get there the way you want to get there. It’s not freedom when you can’t build what you want to build, imagine what you want to create, or take care of your family how and where you want.

Sandy just laid it out for us and I’m grateful. Now it’s abundantly clear. We can choose misery, hunger, and hopelessness or we can pull on our grown up work boots and make this country greater than we’ve ever thought possible. We can allow ourselves to be regulated into oblivion, or live up to our potential and in the process help everyone else to do so, too. We can be cowed into submission by an elaborate lie, proven false over and over, or we can recognize that God made this planet for us to live on, to enjoy, to use and develop. We can become the kind of craven, listless do-nothings that will sell their souls for a mess of pottage, willing to believe lies and nonsense -- or we can roll up our sleeves, thank Almighty God that we are Americans and start building a glorious future.

Progressive Jews and Anti-Semitism - Karin McQuillan

by Karin McQuillan

Progressive Jews would rather support blatant anti-Semitism than say a good word for Donald Trump.

My father was a combat photographer in World War II, who filmed our frontline troops in Europe from Omaha Beach through the liberation of Paris and the Battle of the Bulge to Berlin in ruins. He also filmed the liberation of Dachau, an experience so painful he never spoke about it to me until the last year of his life, at age ninety-eight. He could hardly speak. He was crying so hard his frail body was shaking, as he gasped out, “I’m sorry to be so weak.”

Battle of the Bulge

In my father’s his last years, many things fell away, but he always gave charity to one group, the Anti-Defamation League, the voice of conscience of American Jews fighting to purge our society of the scourge of anti-Semitism.

No more. Now the ADL is just one more left-wing group, “a radical extension of the Democratic Party,” according to Isi Leibler, a prominent worldwide Jewish leader writing in the Jerusalem Post. The only anti-Semitism that it will fight is that of the tiny fringe group of white supremacists. The greater danger of the radical left and Muslim activists gets a pass. The Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) movement, declared anti-Semitic by the American government, is supported by Democratic politicians and so ADL won’t fight it. ADL actively supports the Marxist anti-Semitic group Black Lives Matter, which “incorporates anti-Israel passages in its platform and campaigns against anti-boycott legislation.”

ADL’s moral collapse is even greater than Leibler had space to enumerate. ADL won’t fight anti-Semitism, even violence against Jewish youngsters on campus, organized by Muslim Brotherhood front groups, because progressive multiculturism privileges Muslims over Jews. And it utterly refuses to confront the Democrat party mainstreaming anti-Semitism from three out of its four main voting blocs – blacks, new Hispanics, and leftists.

Today in America, Leibler writes, Jews and Israel’s biggest supporters are Evangelicals. American Jewish leaders are betraying the trust of their community, putting their liberal agenda ahead of protecting Jews at home and Israel abroad.
Jewish identity has become submerged by progressivism. Indeed, left-wing Jews wishing to be regarded as “progressive” are discovering that a prerequisite to their acceptance requires a hostile attitude to Israel.
It all began with Obama, says Leibler. Before Obama, Jewish leaders were not intimidated. Their job was to speak out in defense of Israel. No more.

Obama had pro-Israel congressmen spied on by our intelligence services for opposing his pro-Iran policies. In a favorite Obama technique for suppression, pro-Israel groups were harassed and suppressed by the IRS.

Barack Obama treated Israel “as a rogue state.” He groveled before the Iranians and treated Israeli defenders and Arab terrorists as moral equivalents. “The response by the majority of the American Jewish establishment, who were previously never reticent about raising their voices, was a deafening silence,” writes Liebler.

Jewish leadership caved to Obama’s bullying. They knew that criticizing Obama would be punished severely by liberal activists, jeopardize their funding, and bring down even more hostile attacks from President Obama.

Many Jewish liberals are “so ignorant of their heritage that they regarded social justice and their Democratic political affiliation as the foremost factors in their Jewish identity.”
This past decade has been one of unprecedented passivity and cowardice by the Jewish establishment. It failed to speak out against Obama’s anti-Israel bias and remained silent when the ADL, J Street, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs, the National Council of Jewish Women, progressive rabbis and other Jews engaged in the primitive defamation of Trump from Jewish platforms.
Jewish groups have always been scrupulously bipartisan as a bedrock principle. Fighting anti-Semitism and promoting Jewish American interests was never partisan. But after Obama radicalized the party, that went out the window. Leibler calls out the hysteria sweeping through the Jewish community, as progressive rabbis and their lay leaders call Trump racist, an anti-Semite, and even a Nazi sympathizer.
This, despite the fact that to date, Trump has unquestionably been the most positive president toward Israel and has a converted Jewish daughter who is religiously observant. He introduced significant beneficial policies, such as ceasing financial aid to Palestinian terrorists, moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem and promoting the case for Israel at the UN and international forums.
Meanwhile, they support rabid black and Muslim anti-semites wherever they may be – on campus, in Congress, leading the pussy-hat Women’s March, Farrakhan supporters in Congress, in the social justice movement.

Jewish silence has already sowed the wind.
What must have shocked and sent shivers down the spines of Jews even remotely supportive of Israel was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s appointment of (Ilan Omar) this antisemitic newly elected congresswoman to the prestigious and powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee, which oversees foreign aid and such national security issues as terrorism and the proliferation of nonconventional weapons.
Isi Leibler was born before the Holocaust. He has seen it happen before. He is calling out American Jewish leadership for their cowardice and collusion with the forces of left-wing hate. He says the appointment of Ilan Omar to the Foreign Affairs Committee is a wakeup call.

In truth, it is a wakeup call to all of us. Pelosi’s folly has given Congresswoman Omar the keys to America’s national security secrets.

When anti-Semitism rules, none of us are safe.

Trump’s wild popularity overseas is one of media’s best kept secrets - Thomas Lifson

by Thomas Lifson

World-famous Italian festival parade that features giant ‘God-Emperor Trump’ is only the latest example. Not just a hero, a superhero!

The mainstream media pretends that their scorn for President Trump is almost universally shared overseas. While globalists everywhere (along with their media allies) dislike him for standing up for national sovereignty, a rising tide of populist revolt is shaking them to their core. And Trump is a hero – even a superhero – to the growing number of anti-globalist populists around the world.

Stark evidence of this popularity of President Trump comes from Italy, where a populist government won power – though the media tend to ignore this. The Carnival of Viareggio, described as “world-famous” by Medium.com (the website chosen by Jeff Bezos for his j’accuse manifesto against the National Enquirer) dates back to 1873, and has established itself as the venue for featuring amazing giant figures. It takes place in Tuscany, a wealthy area that is a magnet for tourists worldwide.
Check out the highlight of yesterday’s parade:

Don’t you love the Twitter sword that he carries?
There was at least one individual who picked up the theme in the parade:

Most delightful of all: This crowd transferred their love of President Trump into love for America.

According to Bizpacreview, the representation of Trump has acquired a nickname, God-Emperor Trump.”
Trump’s supporters here in the states have dubbed this caricature “God Emperor Trump” because of its uncanny resemblance to the “God-Emperor of Mankind,” a character in the popular tabletop fantasy wargame Warhammer 40,000.
“The Emperor of Mankind is the immortal Perpetual who serves as the ruling monarch of the Imperium of Man, and is described by the Imperial Ecclesiarchy and the Imperial Cult as the Father, Guardian and God of humanity,” a Wikia fan page notes.
And this “Father, Guardian and God of humanity” looks just like the Italians’ caricature of Trump.
Looks pretty spot on to me:

Of course, this is but the latest evidence that President Trump is inspiring people all over the world. My colleague Monica Showalter offers these examples that are shunned by our lying media:
  • Thousands in England chant “We want Trump”

The globalists realize that this is a worldwide phenomenon, one directed squarely at them and the transition they have wright on countries everywhere. The last thing they want is for Americans to understand that President Trump is THE global leader of a populist movement that is growing, is pro-America, and has already toppled statist governments.

Tragic Fallacies of the APA's Toxic Psychology of Boys and Men - Deborah C. Tyler

by Deborah C. Tyler

Modern psychology has really gone down the tubes.

Twenty-nineteen is my 40th anniversary. It's been 40 years since I resigned from the American Psychological Association.

A tragedy befell humanity at large through the 1970s. The APA permanently abandoned a great and unique mission to create and disseminate scientific, universally relevant psychological theory, and instead reoriented philosophically to destroy the Judeo-Christian moral code. Since the 1970s, the APA has accredited tens of thousands of pieces of anti-moral propaganda designed to normalize and trivialize the psychological effects of abortion, including infanticide, and to devalue sanctified monogamy and the father-led family. Especially, APA literature has evidenced a full-blown obsessive disorder in incessant worshipfulness toward variant and deviant sexuality, symptomized by pathologizing Judeo-Christian morality regarding the problem of sex and by ceaselessly troweling LGBTQ+ slop onto a cultural pedestal.

The recently published "Guidelines for the Psychological Practice with Boys and Men" was instantly recognized by people of common sense as dehumanizing toward the male sex. The Guidelines epitomize three vast, tragic fallacies. They are anti-natural and anti-moral and exemplify irrational polemicism, which displaced scientifically based psychological theory in the major position statements of the APA. The Guidelines represent a new low in composting psychological theory.

The standing anti-moral movements of the APA, such as promoting abortion and homosexuality, have some basis in the humanist worldview and in researchable existential facts. However, the Guidelines can't even be said to be properly political because their fundamental message is gibberish. As proudly proclaimed by the principal composter, the Guidelines deny biological sex as the origin of masculinity and femininity and promote silly "non-binary" gender theory of social conditioning as the sole explanation of masculinity. The Guidelines are toxic because they promote the feminization and homosexualization of males as a remedy for men's struggles. They demean the dignity of manhood and masculinity, thereby fueling the crises of depression and suicide among middle-aged men.

1. The Guidelines are anti-natural.

The Guidelines are a discussion of the problems of "traditional masculinity." This term is almost oxymoronic, but alas, it is just moronic. There is no such thing as "traditional masculinity." Testosterone doesn't send out Christmas cards. Newborn males do not have 20-25% heavier muscles than newborn females around the world due to "gender stereotyping," nor do they display significantly more forceful muscle movement than females due to "gender roles." When a person suffering transsexualism wishes to simulate the opposite sex, he turns to endocrinology — not to non-binary gender theory. He takes opposite-sex hormones to masculinize or feminize his psyche, appearance, and behavior because nothing else will.

The APA Guidelines conclude that traditional masculinity — marked by stoicism, competitiveness, dominance, and aggresson — is on the whole harmful. Let's dispense with "competitiveness." Anyone who thinks males are more competitive than females has never belonged to a sorority. Males in general are more cooperative and less competitive than females. Males are more naturally disposed than females to form successful teams and to accept their place in a dominance hierarchy. If a group of males or a group of females undertake a task that calls for cooperation, there will tend to be more competition and infighting among the females. Have you ever seen a girl fight — hair-pulling, scratching, a furious swing or two — end in a handshake?

It's not that males are more competitive; it's that they compete in naturally masculine ways that are disrespected by the APA. Males play football, are NASCAR drivers, and fight against enemies with instinctual courage, all of which gifts are disparaged by the APA. At its core, literature such as the Guidelines is instigated by unconscious shame. Men who produce "non-binary gender theory" are too timorous to risk their lives for others, so they disparage men who do.

Stoicism, dominance, and aggression are biologically based. Males have a higher threshold for pain from birth and throughout life. The biological imperative regarding aggression can be restrained only by moral training and punishment when morality fails.

The Guidelines say stoicism, competitiveness, dominance, and aggression are harmful. But males are too stoic and dominant compared to what? To kangaroos or maybe African violets? Doubt not: the APA opines that heterosexual men are too dominant and aggressive compared to homosexual men and females. The Guidelines bemoan manhood in the opposite way to Henry Higgins's lament. The APA asks, why can't heterosexual men be more like women and gays?

2. The Guidelines are anti-moral.

To understand anti-morality, it's necessary to understand morality. Morality is often mistaken for altruism, situational virtuousness, or ethicality. It is none of those. Moral codes arise in civilizations as experience of Divine presence, articulated in group religious experience to restrain human selfishness. Cults, social groups, and organizations engender rituals, conventionalities, or ethics, but morality can derive only from recognition of the intrinsic, unchanging value of life based in the Divine. That is a universal human experience, prefigured in some animal species, so moral codes tend to be stable and reflect cross-cultural imperatives.

Judeo-Christian moral methodology had become the most humane in world history, even as its nemesis, modern psychology, came to the forefront. Judeo-Christianity maintained the ideal of the father-led family and the privilege of sex confined to sanctified marriage, even as violent punishments for moral lapse, still inflicted by some religions, were eliminated. As science provided a level of material security that largely removed the survival benefits of moral conduct, all that remained was the intrinsic reward of righteousness. Godless anti-moral philosophies, prominently systematized by the APA, removed the challenge of righteousness by normalizing unnaturalness, weakness, and selfishness.

The Guidelines are the culmination of this effort to destroy Judeo-Christian morality regarding manhood and masculinity while offering no possibility of replacing essential moral ideals. For decades, the APA has demeaned enlightened patriarchy; disregarded masculine courage in military and police service; and degraded the natural love of the father for his children by normalizing divorce, illegitimacy, abortion, and infanticide.

3. The Guidelines are anti-scientific.

Reading the Guidelines in their entirety is a harrowing experience. Guideline 1 says it all: "Psychologists strive to recognize that masculinities are constructed based on social, cultural and contextual norms." Before striving begins, consider this dimwitted statement in support of a dimwitted thesis: "Many men are socialized by friends ... family ... peers ... and ... society." Other men have brains like a paramecium and aren't socialized by society? Mainly, this guideline rounds up and blames the usual suspects: "[d]ominant masculinity was historically predicated on exclusion of men who were not White, heterosexual, cisgender, able-bodied and privileged." Immigration status — a euphemism for illegality — is also cited as a barrier to dominance. If we assume that the majority of men are not "privileged," then most have been denied a shot at "dominance" in their own families or social groups, which is absurd.

Apparently, the principal compiler is Dr. Ryon McDermott, a counseling psychologist associated with a professional school, a low rung in academic psychology. Powerful intellects in psychology don't stoop to "non-binary gender theory." Dr. McDermott recently published "College Male Sexual Assault of Women and the Psychology of Men: Past, Present, and Future Directions for Research." A psychologist who studies the worst in heterosexual men is the APA's mouthpiece regarding masculinity? (Because homosexual men don't rape. Just ask the pope.) Dr. McDermott asks, "What is gender in the 2010s?" and concludes, "It's no longer just this male-female binary."

To answer Dr. McDermott's question: Gender theory is a tragic hoax perpetrated by angry, jealous leftists threatened by the self-evident truth of human nature, formed man and woman together.

(Dedicated to the manhood of a beautiful boy, born 2/2/19.)
