'My heart and soul are Israeli but I want to save Lebanon' - Yoav Limor

 by Yoav Limor

During his childhood in Lebanon, K. never thought he would one day serve in the IDF. In the early 1990s his father, spurred on by Zionism, decided to immigrate to Israel. When he was drafted to the army, Unit 8200 understood they were granted a gem.

If K. has one dream, it's to go back to Beirut. To walk around the neighborhood he grew up in, to meet his old neighbors and friends. To sit in restaurants, to go for vacations in the north like he did when he was a kid. "I'll be the first to go to Lebanon once it's possible," he says.

Sergeant Major K. is known in 8200 as "The Lebanese". He came to Israel from Lebanon with his family, among the last Jews who lived there, and was drafted into the IDF and made a career in Unit 8200 focusing on his former home - Lebanon and the fight against Hezbollah, who took over the country he grew up in.

He's 39 years old, married with two girls aged 8 and 3. His perfect Hebrew can be misleading: when he came to Israel, aged 12, he didn't speak a word. Everything he learned he learned by himself. Word after word, sentence after sentence.

His mother tongue is Arabic, and just like any educated Lebanese, he also speaks French and English. He studied in a Christian school, and most of his friends were Christian. "Most of the Jews left before us. Most of them after the Six Day War, and then after the Yom Kippur War. Those who stayed, dispersed after the civil war began in 1975, many moved to France or Canada, because they knew how to speak French, and also to Brazil."

His parents lived in Beirut. "They were convinced that in a few months the war will end, but like all the Jews who remained in the city, they decided to go up a bit north, to a more remote mountainous area. They were sure they would return when the fighting subsided, but it didn't, and we stayed there."

His father was a successful salesman and his mother a housewife. He remembers a normal and happy childhood of a regular family: two parents with four kids, K. and his three sisters. In retrospect, he can say that during those times there was considerable persecution of Jews, even though his family never felt it. "I don't remember being scared to say I'm Jewish. Our neighbors knew we were Jews. My father came from a religious home, and we would celebrate the major holidays – Passover, Rosh Hashana."

They would get matzos for Pesach from Syria, where there was still a large Jewish community, with a chief rabbi, kosher slaughter and bakeries. "In Lebanon all that disappeared years earlier, but we learned to get by. We lived among Christians, but we upheld our Jewish lives. Father prayed at home. On Yom Kippur the neighbor would come over before the fast ended to warm up our food, and the neighbors would move our car so we didn't desecrate the holiday."

Q: Weren't you scared?

"I was a Lebanese Jew. I was accepted like they accept a Lebanese Christian. I studied in a Christian school that was somewhat religious, and anyone who needed to know - they knew I was Jewish and didn't attend religious lessons. I didn't go around screaming that, but I was never ashamed or scared to say I was Jewish."

They avoided going to the Shiite areas of Beirut. "We lived in a Christian area, which was protected. The moment you ventured a bit south, you were exposed. My father didn't like going to these areas. He was connected to military people who would give him passage, but he was very careful."

He remembers many vacations during his childhood in Lebanon: In the snowy mountains, and on the beach during summers. Long vacations that sometimes lasted the whole summer.

During holidays they would come to Israel, to visit his mother's family. Today it sounds like science fiction, but in the 1980s they would get in their car, drive south to the border, pass through Rosh Hanikra, and when the vacation ended go back home. "I remember holidays, the hotel in Nahariya. We would usually come for Rosh Hashanah, because it coincided with the vacation in Lebanon." His father was the only one then who spoke Hebrew. The rest of the family spoke with their relatives in Arabic.

At the end of the 1980s the visits became less frequent due to the security situation, and the family slowly began to think more about leaving Lebanon and moving to Israel. "My father was Zionist, and he wanted to live again in a warm and embracing Jewish Zionist community."

At the end of 1993, they made the decision and K.'s family prepared for the move. As opposed to Syrian Jews, who had to escape without any belongings, Lebanese Jews left in an orderly fashion. K.'s family told their neighbors they were leaving for America, packed their house, including the furniture, called the movers and put their possessions on a ship that sailed to Cyprus, where they were greeted by Jewish Agency officials. After a few days waiting, in December 1993, they flew to Israel.

The move to Israel wasn't easy, especially for his parents. A different civilization, different language. K. and his sisters had to get along by themselves. After six months in an immigrant hotel, they moved to Holon, where he first entered the Israeli school system, in the 7th grade. It wasn't smooth. "Kids can be cruel sometimes. There was unpleasant name-calling. They called me Hezbollah. Today I understand that the cruelty wasn't meant really to hurt - that's what they knew."

As a defense mechanism, he tried to hide that he came from Lebanon. Until he was drafted. The Intelligence Branch didn't miss the fact that he was born and grew up in the neighboring country to the north. In a unit that works hard to train Arabists, K. was a diamond. Not only one whose mother tongue is Arabic, but who also knows Lebanon not only from books or intel, but really, from the inside. A real Lebanese, who knows the culture, traditions and food. "A real Lebanese. A Lebanese Jew," as he calls himself.

Unit 8200 is the IDF's top military intelligence unit, responsible for collecting signal intelligence and code decryption (Yehoshua Yosef/File)

He was drafted in 2000 to Unit 8200, the IDF's top Military Intelligence unit. He received training and served as a radio technician. He listened to calls, analyzed data, sent messages. He quickly understood there's a difference between "his" Lebanon, the one he loved and grew up in, to Hezbollah, the enemy. "Not all the Lebanese residents that I know are enemies. It's an important distinction to make."

In his eyes, Hezbollah is not only an enemy of Israel, but of Lebanon. "Most of the Lebanese people suffer from Hezbollah's presence. With what I do today, I not only serve the state of Israel, I also serve the Lebanese people."

He has no doubt that in the area he grew up in Hezbollah is a threat. "They control everything, and that's why they look after their own personal interests, the Shiite community - and those who aren't connected to Hezbollah, are severely harmed."

Q: Are you in touch with friends, neighbors?

"No. The connection with everyone was lost. At first my dad still had ties, but they slowly disappeared. It's not like today where there's email and Facebook."

The move to Israel wasn't easy for his parents, either. "In Lebanon, our door was always open. A neighbor came in, a neighbor went out, and suddenly here is the mentality where everyone is closed inside themselves. Everyone worries about themselves and their own families. It was hard for them to accept that they won't have friends like they did in Lebanon."

Q: Do you miss it?

"My father misses it a lot. Last summer with the explosion at the Beirut port, the first thing I did was run to watch Lebanese TV stations to see what was happening, and then I called Dad. It was very hard for him to digest. His childhood was there. The memories. I asked him when that country would finally find some peace."

His father still lives in Holon, and despite his age works in security, so as not to come home empty handed. His mother passed away eight years ago, and his sisters keep the Lebanese tradition, mostly by cooking food from there. He speaks with his father "half Hebrew half Arabic" even though "Dad thinks in Arabic, Arabic is the most comfortable for him."

Q: And when he sees what Hezbollah does in Lebanon?

"He doesn't think much about that now. He thinks more about politics."

Q: Lebanese politics?

"Of course. He's always watching the Arabic channels."

Q: And what does he say about the mess there now?

"That we're lucky we left. My parents sacrificed a lot by leaving, each of us paid a price. But today everyone is settled, and he's happy about that."

Q: Do you ever imagine what would have happened if you stayed there?

"Of course. And I probably would have found some way to leave, too. In Lebanon there is conscription at age 18, so if I had stayed it would have been a problem."

Walks with his head held high

During his service he moved between arenas. He also worked on the Palestinian arena, but most of his service was spent dealing with the Lebanese arena. During the Second Lebanon War he was at a northern base of the unit that was under fire, and dealt with "life saving" as he calls it. "My job was to save the lives of soldiers who were in Lebanon, and we did it. I can say without a doubt we saved the lives of a few soldiers."

During one of the incidents, they alerted a force inside a house of an anti-tank missile fired at them. The force evacuated the house - and survived. "That was a difficult period. You're being bombarded, you need to make a switch and move to 'war mode', but the mission is above everything."

And amidst all this, thoughts on Lebanon. His Lebanon. "I long ago made the distinction between me being Lebanese and being Israeli. I don't think I'm hurting Lebanon in any way. Like I already said, I think I'm doing good for them."

As such he no longer hides his identity. "I used to hide it. Today I hold my head high. I'm K.. Jewish-Lebanese. Everything I had when I came here - the shame, the desire to act as if I was born here and not there - all that is gone."

Q: What do you tell the young soldiers you meet?

"Everything. How life was there, the summer vacations, the restaurants, the food. The young guys don't really understand it, that there is a Lebanon that isn't Hezbollah. A different Lebanon."

K. makes it clear he differentiates between Lebanon the state and Hezbollah, which grips it with an iron fist.

"It's not the same thing. I lived with these people. I know their opinions, their culture. But I also work on the northern front and see the evil. And there's a major difference between the two."

As time goes by the differences become blurred. Hezbollah is gradually taking over Lebanon and its institutions, and in many ways its interests have become those of Lebanon. And yet, the distinction is important to him, even though he focuses on the enemy - Hezbollah - and less on the sentiment, on the Lebanon he left.

Hezbollah, he says, is a smart organization that learns lessons. But it's also an organization that is aware of its limits and who is opposite it. "You can't ignore Hezbollah and its strength, but neither our capability and strength, and this they know very well."

Unit 8200 has been through dramatic changes during his service in the unit, especially the transition from the world of signals intelligence to the world of cyber. If in the past he mostly dealt with listening to calls, today his world includes many types of messages and other data. The unit has many other Arabists, but K. is the only Lebanese, and this is a unique source of knowledge.

As such, his familiarity with Hezbollah is intimate. Last year he dealt quite a bit with thwarting attempted attacks by the organization on the northern border, as a response to the killing of one of its militants in an attack attributed to the Israel Air Force in Damascus. "I'm not ashamed to say that I wake up every day with a certain amount of vigilance, in knowledge that things can change any second."

Q: And when you hear Nasrallah say there will be revenge, what do you do?

"Our job is to always look for an intent to attack, whether or not Nasrallah speaks to the media; and for that we need to be focused and sharp. Yes, we look for needles in a haystack. It's not simple. But we know the job."

Q: And when you don't succeed? You're not success wizards.

"Then the feeling is very difficult. And if there is a soldier killed or injured, your world falls apart. But the great thing about 8200 is learning lessons. We're humans and we make mistakes, but the idea is to know how to fix those mistakes."

Q: And how does it feel to be the only Lebanese in the business?

"It's kind of funny to say, but the feeling is like a weight on my back because I have a great responsibility. First of all, to my country, and yes - also to Lebanon, or at least part of its citizens. And part of my missions as I see it is to guide the young soldiers and train them. To teach them the culture, the language. The correct pronunciation."

As part of his job, K. led a team in operation Northern Shield, which exposed and neutralized cross-border attack tunnels Hezbollah dug. "We took a strategic capability from them. It has great significance. I was very proud, I felt I achieved closure. They worked so hard on that, and in the end a Lebanese came and exposed and thwarted their plans."

Q: The Lebanese who thwarted the Lebanese.

"Hezbollah. The Lebanese I know are not Hezbollah. I never knew Hezbollah activists. My friends were Christians. Good people."

Q: This article will probably be translated to Arabic, published in Lebanon.

"That doesn't bother me. I'm here to protect my country. Let them translate."

Q: You say you are a Lebanese patriot. They will say you're a traitor.

"I'm an Israeli patriot. Born in Lebanon, but my heart and soul are Israeli. And yes, I want to save Lebanon."

Finally, he says that when the Abraham Accords were signed with the Emirates and Bahrain, he thought of his homeland. "My dream is that someday this will happen with Lebanon. I will be the first to go there."

Arabs' Real Enemies: Iran and Turkey - Khaled Abu Toameh

The Arabs are -- telling the world that the only way to deal with Turkey and Iran is by increasing political and economic pressure on them and holding them to account for their malign actions.

  • The Arabs are warning the world that Turkey and Iran are funding and arming terrorists, that they [pose] a major threat to security and stability in the Middle East, and that they keep meddling in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

  • Turkey and Iran, in other words, are telling the Arabs that they can go to hell. They are also telling the Arabs that Turkey and Iran will continue to occupy Arab countries, meddle in their internal affairs, and unleash terrorist attacks to undermine their stability and security.

  • Veteran Saudi columnist Abdulrahman Al-Rashed warned that Iran's continued "military activities" in the region will likely lead to more chaos that will be increasingly difficult to control.

  • Al-Rashed also pointed out that the Houthi militia increased its missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia after the Biden administration revoked its designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

After decades of portraying Israel as their mortal enemy, the Arabs have finally woken up to the fact that it is two Islamic countries, Turkey and Iran, that are actually threatening their security and stability.

The Arabs are now seeking to draw the world's attention to these Turkish and Iranian threats.

The Arabs are warning the world that Turkey and Iran are funding and arming terrorists, that they a major threat to stability in the Middle East, and that they keep meddling in the affairs of Arab countries.

They are also telling the world -- in message directed mainly to the Biden Administration -- that the only way to deal with Turkey and Iran is by increasing political and economic pressure on them and holding them to account for their malign actions.

The latest message from the Arabs was delivered on March 3 by Arab League foreign ministers. In a clear directive to the Biden administration and the international community, the ministers warned against Iranian and Turkish intervention in the internal affairs of the Arab countries.

The message the Arab foreign ministers are sending to the Biden administration is: In your dealings with the mullahs in Tehran and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, remember that they are funding and arming terrorists and trying to destabilize and dominate Arab countries.

The Arab ministers are also saying that they want the international community, including the Biden administration, to take real measures to stop Turkey and Iran from pursuing their dangerous policies against Arab countries.

Referring to Turkey, the Arab ministers condemned the Turkish military presence in -- and "hostile intervention" in the internal affairs of -- a number of Arab countries, including Syria, Libya and Iraq. This intervention, they cautioned, "aims to undermine the stability, and tamper with the capabilities, of these three Arab countries."

The ministers accused Turkey of hosting, funding, arming, training and providing a safe haven for terrorist groups, which they cited as the Muslim Brotherhood.

Turkey's "malicious' policies require Arab and international action," the ministers said. They also called on Erdogan to withdraw his troops and "mercenaries" from Syria, Iraq and Libya.

Referring to Iran, the ministers accused Tehran of proceeding with its plan to "destroy, sabotage and undermine the stability" of a number of Arab countries.

The ministers condemned Iran's encroachment into the internal affairs of the Arabs, as well as the mullahs' "provocative statements" against Arab countries and missiles now being fired by the Iranian-affiliated Houthi militia in Yemen into Saudi Arabia.

Turkey and Iran, however, do not seem fazed by the Arab ministers' warning. The two countries have lashed out at the ministers and dismissed the Arab allegations as "baseless."

The Turkish Foreign Ministry called on some members of the Arab League to end their "insistence on stereotypical accusations against our country with aims to cover up their destructive activities."

Turkey, the ministry said, with its "principled and resolute stance," is one of the countries that devotes the greatest effort to ensure "regional and global peace and stability of security."

"We again invite the Arab League to prioritize the peace, prosperity and well-being of the Arab people and to constructively contribute to the establishment of security and stability in the region, instead of targeting our country with baseless allegations."

Likewise, Iran's Foreign Ministry said:

"[I]t is regrettable that some Arab countries are seeking to divert people's attention from their wicked and destructive moves by arousing fictitious animosity instead of taking care of the key issues that the Arab world is facing."

Turkey and Iran, in other words, are telling the Arabs that they can go to hell. They are also telling the Arabs that Turkey and Iran will continue to occupy Arab countries, meddle in their internal affairs, and unleash terrorist attacks to undermine their stability and security.

"It is natural for Erdogan to reject the decisions of the Arab League, and this is understandable and expected, but what is neither acceptable nor expected is that the Turkish Foreign Ministry claims that the decisions are baseless," remarked Saudi writer Najeeb Yamani.

"It is quite clear that Erdogan is a blind fool. He is sending mercenaries to Libya and supporting one of the parties to the conflict there with weapons. Turkey is occupying parts of Syria and violating the sovereignty of Iraq. In addition, Erdogan is embracing and supporting the Muslim Brotherhood organization and using it to undermine Egypt's security."

Veteran Saudi columnist Abdulrahman Al-Rashed warned that Iran's continued "military activities" in the region will likely lead to more chaos that will be increasingly difficult to control.

Al-Rashed also pointed out that the Houthi militia increased its missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia after the Biden administration revoked its designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

"Every week that passes proves the need for a grouping of countries in the region in the face of Iran, regardless of the attempts to negotiate between the West and Iran," he said. "Americans who are looking for positive signs [in Iran] will not find much."

Yet, the latest Arab warning concerning the Turkish and Iranian threats has gone almost unnoticed by the international community and media. They only seem to pay a great deal of attention to the resolutions of the Arab League foreign ministers when they include -- as they frequently do -- a condemnation of Israel.

When the Arabs issue warnings about the destructive policies of Turkey and Iran, the international community directs its gaze elsewhere.

Iran Wants Over $3 Billion to Negotiate with Biden - Daniel Greenfield

 by Daniel Greenfield

How many billions will Biden’s date with terror cost?

After North Korea’s latest missile test and a threat from Kim Jong-Un’s sister that if the Biden administration “wants to sleep in peace for [the] coming four years, it had better refrain from causing a stink”, the administration had a firm and unyielding response to the threats.

Officials told the media that the Biden administration sees North Korean missile tests as "normal military activity" and that they "don’t want a situation where it is perceived that our door is not open to talk.”

North Korea knows that Biden’s barn door is wide open. The snarling threat by Lil Kim's sister was the first North Korean response to a month of diplomatic overtures from Biden.

That came after Biden's people had waged a desperate campaign of "diplomatic outreach" to everyone from North Korea's UN mission to Kim Jong Un's hairdresser.

Yet another senior Biden administration official claimed that they had been reaching out “through several channels", but "have not received any response from Pyongyang.”

The response finally came in the form of a missile launch and a vicious threat.

All of that is a long way from Biden’s tough talk on the debate stage when he attacked Kim Jong-Un as a “thug”, and vowed to meet with him only “on the condition that he would agree that he would be drawing down his nuclear capacity.” So much for that. Now Biden is begging the thug to talk on any terms and getting nowhere in that department.

Or in any other department.

Biden would like to get back into bed with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Not only was restoring Obama’s Iran nuclear sellout one of the biggest foreign policy pledges of his campaign, but the Democrat pol has been funded by the Iran lobby for much of his career.

After 9/11, he thought a fit response would be to send a $200 million check to Iran.

He picked Rob Malley, the lead negotiator for the Iran deal, as his envoy to Iran, and a guy who loves Islamic terrorists almost as much as Biden loves groping protesting women.

With that kind of political pedigree, you would think that Tehran Joe could get a mullah or two on the phone. Unfortunately for Joe, even the mullahs have higher standards.

Iran's foreign ministry turned down informal talks with the Biden administration, while the Bidenites pleaded for another chance.

"While we are disappointed at Iran’s response, we remain ready to reengage in meaningful diplomacy,” Biden’s White House pleaded.

Nobody else seems very interested in a meaningful diplomatic relationship with Biden that will include long walks on the DMZ beach, sipping champagne from radioactive warheads, and holding conferences that have no purpose except to make him appear competent.

Maybe that’s because they know that Biden’s meaningful diplomacy is meaningless.

Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who had often met with Senate Democrats and top Obama officials during the Trump administration, initially suggested that Iran might agree to consider an “informal meeting ... in which the United States is not a member, but is invited.”

That would have been the most awkward date ever, even by the standards of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr, a guy who likes smelling strange women’s hair in public, and Kamala Harris, who built her political career by dating a married politician twice her age.

But the Iranians decided that they couldn’t even participate in a meeting at which a United States representative was present, even if that rep, like Rob Malley, was really representing everything and everyone but America, possibly from George Soros to his father’s Egyptian Communist Party, unless there was money in it for Tehran in the form of direct sanctions relief.

Iran wants to be paid to even sit at the same table or it’s not coming. That’s not diplomacy: it’s prostitution. The only date Biden can get with Iran will cost billions of dollars. That’s a lot even for a five-star restaurant near the UN patronized by the corrupt diplomats of Turtle Bay.

How many billions will Biden’s blind date with terror cost? More than a billion. Or three billion.

Biden had told CBS's Face the Nation that he was not going to lift sanctions on Iran to get it to negotiate with him. As usual, he was lying. Behind the scenes, the Biden administration was looking for a way to get sanctions relief to Iran without making it public.

Obama had illegally airmailed pallets of foreign currency on unmarked cargo planes. The Biden administration told South Korea that it could send a billion to Iran in exchange for releasing a tanker that it was holding hostage. But that’s still not good enough for Iran. It wants more.

After that initial $1 billion, the Islamic regime announced that the Biden administration had approved the release of $3 billion from South Korea, Oman, and Iraq.

Still not good enough.

Iran wants the full $7 billion from South Korea, some estimates place it at $8.5 billion, and there’s another $6 billion sitting in Iraq. It’s unclear how much of the money has been released yet, with Biden’s people vocally claiming that all of these reports are wholly and entirely false.

Iran's Central Bank governor Abdolnaser Hemmati however has said, “The payment will be in cash which will be transferred to our banks.”

That’s more convenient than Obama’s pallets of foreign currency on unmarked planes.

But whatever amount Iran has been paid hasn’t been enough to get it to sit at the same table with a bunch of Bidenites. That’s going to cost more than a mere $3 billion.

As long as Biden keeps paying, Iran will negotiate over whether to attend an informal negotiation as a prerequisite to a formal negotiation to return to an accord that it won’t keep.

And if you think that’s absurd, Biden has paid out $3 billion without even getting his foot in the door. It’s going to cost a lot more than $3 billion to go to the actual formal negotiations and then to a renewed agreement which the Iranians will violate while laughing all the way to the bank.

Meanwhile, Biden can’t fulfill his campaign promise to revive the Iran Deal because the Iranians won’t even start negotiating with him on the best way to get America to pay for its nuclear program, until the Democrats start presenting the cash to the terrorists up front. Or no deal.

Having gotten nowhere with Iran on its nuclear weapons program, the Biden administration proposed resolving the mess in Afghanistan by asking "the United Nations to convene Foreign Ministers and envoys from Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, India and the United States to discuss a unified approach to supporting peace in Afghanistan". Too bad that 4 out of 6 of those countries actually benefit from an ongoing war in Afghanistan and want us to bear the brunt of it.

Iran is behind much of the terrorism on the planet: including in Afghanistan. Why would it want to work with Biden on bringing peace to Afghanistan when it can bring terror and death instead?

The Biden administration can’t answer that or anything else. Its solution to everything is to call some sort of multinational conference. The wave of proposed multinational conferences is as staggering as it is silly and pointless. Biden wants to partner with China on denuclearization for North Korea. But why would China want to relieve the pressure on America and South Korea?

That’s about as likely as Iran relieving the pressure on America.

When Biden ended support for the campaign against the Houthis in Yemen, the Iranian-backed Jihadist group whose motto is “Death to America” responsed by ramping up its attacks.

“Tragically, and somewhat confusingly for me, it appears that the Houthis are prioritizing a military campaign ... over suspending the war and moving relief to the Yemeni people,” State Department special representative Tim Lenderking wondered.

Only a madman, an idiot, or a diplomat would think that it’s unexpected for an Islamic terrorist group to respond to appeasement by “prioritizing a military campaign” rather than providing relief for a famine that it had caused to begin with. But Democrats insist on being surprised by the obvious and the inevitable all the time. They’re surprised that Iran is demanding cash for negotiations and they’re surprised that their meeting with China was an even bigger disaster.

They’re surprised that North Korea isn’t interested in a meeting either.

Biden begs America’s enemies to negotiate and is then surprised when they demand that he pay for the privilege. And that makes sense. If the Democrats want North Korea or Iran to waste its time pretending to negotiate with them, there had better be a carrot or a stick involved.

Whether there’s a carrot or a stick won’t change the pointlessness of the negotiations. But if there isn’t a stick, then the dictators, tyrants, and terrorists want to be paid for their time.

That’s not unreasonable.

If Biden wants to date Iran, the mullahs warn him that he’s going to have to pick up the check.

There’s only one enemy country that wants to talk to Biden and it’s the world power that Democrats use as both a pretext and a model for domestic repression in America.

The Trump administration had refused to renew the START treaty that limited America's military capabilities while allowing Moscow to cheat as much as it wanted. The Russians had asked for at least a one-year extension, while the Trump administration had demanded a tougher deal.

Biden offered a five-year extension, no questions asked, and the Russians happily took it. Unlike Iran, they didn’t even make Biden pay them to humiliate his own country and undermine its national security. Now that’s what a good diplomatic relationship looks like to a Democrat.

Democrats may be striking out with North Korea and Iran, but they’ll always have Russia.

At least until they have to blame whatever horrible thing Hunter Biden did this time on Moscow.

Where Are the US and the EU on Iran's Human Rights Violations? - Majid Rafizadeh

 by Majid Rafizadeh

In rewarding Iran for malign behavior -- by again showering millions of dollars on the Iranian regime, lifting sanctions and reviving the nuclear deal -- the US and the EU are empowering the ruling clerics of Iran to further suppress and crack down on dissidents, torture and kill their citizens and expand their tyranny abroad.

  • Although Iran ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, President Hassan Rouhani's government has made no effort to alter the country's Penal Code, which allows girls as young as nine to be executed.

  • "Iranian courts, and particularly revolutionary courts, regularly fall far short of providing fair trials and use confessions likely obtained under torture as evidence in court. Authorities have failed to meaningfully investigate numerous allegations of torture against detainees. Authorities routinely restrict detainees' access to legal counsel, particularly during the initial investigation period." — Human Rights Watch, "World Report 2021."

  • In rewarding Iran for malign behavior -- by again showering millions of dollars on the Iranian regime, lifting sanctions and reviving the nuclear deal -- the US and the EU are empowering the ruling clerics of Iran to further suppress and crack down on dissidents, torture and kill their citizens and expand their tyranny abroad.

While the Biden administration and the European Union are forging ahead to revive the Iran nuclear deal – which, by the way, Tehran never signed -- and lift sanctions on the Iranian regime, they are turning a blind eye on the regime's alarming and increasing human rights violations.

Human rights violations committed by the Iranian regime have become even more shattering and appalling. Unfortunately, Iran's leaders have been acting with full impunity. First, the suppression and execution of political prisoners and those who protest against Iran's theocratic establishment have reached an unprecedented level. According to a recent Human Rights Watch report, the Iranian regime is one of the world's leading executioners. In 2020, Iran's regime executed more than 230 people. These include individuals who committed their alleged crimes when they were children.

To execute political prisoners, Iran's judiciary brings up vaguely defined charges, labelled as "national security crimes," against the defendants. These "crimes" include moharebeh ("enmity against God"), ifsad fil arz ("sowing corruption on earth"), and baghi ("armed rebellion").

It is not only the number of executions that is alarming, but also the nature of some of them. The executions from 2020 until March 2021 have involved juveniles, women and individuals from ethnic and religious minority groups, including Ahwazi Arabs, Kurds and Sunni Muslims. Although Iran ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, President Hassan Rouhani's government has made no effort to alter the country's Penal Code, which allows girls as young as nine to be executed.

Concerning the persecution of the ethnic minorities, Amnesty International's deputy director for the Middle East and North Africa, Diana Eltahawy, pointed out in a statement: "The recent escalation in executions of Baluchis and Ahwazi Arabs raises serious concerns that the authorities are using the death penalty to sow fear among disadvantaged ethnic minorities, as well as the wider population." These sometimes follow what the organization calls "flagrantly unfair trials."

The Human Rights Watch "World Report 2021" mentions the execution of high profile figures such as the international wresting champion, Navid Afkari. Afkari and his brothers were tortured to force them to testify against each other to extract "confessions," which were then aired on television. Afkari wrote in a letter:

"For around 50 days I had to endure the most horrendous physical and psychological tortures. They would beat me with sticks and batons, hitting my arms, legs, abdomen, and back. They would place a plastic bag on my head and torture me until I suffocated to the very brink of death. They also poured alcohol into my nose."

Another prominent figure executed in 2020 was the dissident Iranian journalist Rouhollah Zam. He lived in exile in France and was reportedly kidnapped by operatives working for the Iranian regime on October 11, 2019, shortly after he left for a trip to Iraq. Zam had run the online news site AmadNews, and his channel on the messaging app Telegram reportedly had more than 1 million followers. By executing such high-profile figures, Tehran is attempting to instill fear and send a warning to the population that opposition to the political establishment will be dealt with harshly.

To suppress political prisoners even further, Iran's judiciary system and its courts deny the defendants access to legal counsel and the most minimal standards of justice. Lack of due process, forced confessions and physical or psychological torture are prominent in the process through which the judiciary sentences defendants to the death penalty. As the latest report by the Human Rights Watch exposed:

"Iranian courts, and particularly revolutionary courts, regularly fall far short of providing fair trials and use confessions likely obtained under torture as evidence in court. Authorities have failed to meaningfully investigate numerous allegations of torture against detainees. Authorities routinely restrict detainees' access to legal counsel, particularly during the initial investigation period."

In 2020, ordinary citizens' basic freedoms, including freedom of expression, assembly, association, and religion deteriorated in Iran. The regime has also ratcheted up its discrimination against religious minorities such as the Baha'i.

It is a step in the right direction that the US Congressman Joe Wilson introduced a bill on the eve of Nowruz, Iran's New Year, to hold Iran accountable for human rights violations. The bill, called "Iran Human Rights and Accountability Act of 2021," includes Hezbollah and the Iran-backed militias in Syria and Iraq. But this bill alone is not enough.

Boycott boomerang: Genius Dems start to realize Georgia boycott will cost them votes in the Peach State - Thomas Lifson

 by Thomas Lifson

Guess who gets hurt in the estimated $100 million impact from the loss of the MLB showcase.

Democrats thought they had a brilliant plan to force Georgia to permit widespread voting fraud by getting their woke pals in corporate America to bully the state into repealing its brand-new voting integrity law that mandates voter ID and other commonsense measures.  Two Atlanta-based corporate giants, Coca-Cola and Delta Airlines, denounced Georgia's new voting integrity bill, and Major League Baseball announced it was moving the All-Star Game away from Atlanta.

Oops!

Guess who gets hurt in the estimated $100 million impact from the loss of the MLB showcase.  That would be the little guys who work at hotels and restaurants, who are vendors at the game, and who work in other service industries.  The local Dem pols realized this quickly.  Last Friday, Laura Ingraham reported:

[T]he blowback against this is growing, which forced even liberal Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff to put out a statement last night saying, "I absolutely oppose and reject any notion of boycotting Georgia." But then he said that look, corporations that are disgusted, like we are with this voter suppression bill, should stop any financial support for the Georgia Republican Party.

Stacey Abrams, who claimed that she was cheated out of victory in the governor's race (this was back when it was permitted to question an election result, an activity that now is regarded as destructive of democracy now that almost half the country thinks Joe Biden's election to the presidency was based on voter fraud), wants to have it both ways.  She put out a video on March 31 that called on corporations to use their "full clout" but also warned that her peeps would be hurt by boycotts.

Twitter video screen grab.

What does "full clout" mean, if not including boycotts?  Watch and see if this makes any sense (spoiler alert: it doesn't, and you have to endure five minutes of sophistry and lies):

Bonchie of RedState calls her out:

Abrams literally [is] asking corporations to "use their clout" to punish Georgia for its election reform bill. But she didn't really "mean it" like that, you guys. She just meant to write angry letters talking about how evil Republicans are, so as to help her party in the next election.

But when you drop a lion into a locked room, you can't then claim you told it not to eat anyone. Abrams' lies had consequences, and those consequences are now taking money out of the pockets of small businesses in her state. Was her virtue signaling and lying on cable news worth it? I'd guess most voters don't think so, and they shouldn't forget that when 2022 rolls around.

While Georgia Dems are panicking over blowback, Joe Biden's adviser Cecilia Rouse went on Face the Nation with a tone-deaf explanation that workers elsewhere will benefit while Georgians suffer, so it all works out.  I guess Georgians are supposed to take comfort that the working class as a whole ends up with the same number of jobs.  This sort of thinking is what academics specialize in, divorced from the humanity of actual individuals.  This video lasts less than a minute:

Biden & Democrats: 'American Lives Don't Matter' - Wayne Allyn Root

 by Wayne Allyn Root

Destroying America from within.

We know Democrats support "Black Lives Matter." It's all they talk about. While I'm no fan of the Marxist BLM organization, I think all of us can agree that black lives matter. No one wants a single law-abiding, innocent black American to die needlessly.

But someone needs to ask puppet President Joe Biden and every Democratic politician in Washington, D.C., a simple question: Do American lives matter?

Because, from their actions, it's pretty darn clear that they don't. It seems like they're purposely trying to destroy the lives of American citizens.

Who in their right mind would open the borders, stop construction of the wall, invite the entire world to come to America, announce they won't deport anyone, and incentivize migrants with free lawyers, welfare, bus or air fare and, of course, free health care?

Even worse, who in their right mind would open the borders in the middle of this COVID-19 pandemic?

Who'd be insane enough to demand every American citizen returning to the U.S. to take a COVID test but refuse to give COVID tests to thousands of immigrants illegally breaking into our country each day?

Who would spend $86 million on nice hotel rooms for illegal immigrants, yet ask our brave, selfless troops to sleep in freezing cold parking garages, on concrete floors, with only one bathroom for 5,000 troops?

Who would open the borders to the Mexican drug cartel, drug traffickers, sex traffickers and pedophiles? Who'd want to give easy entree to the U.S. for MS-13 murderers?

Think about the countries across the globe that hate us — terrorist regimes such as Iran, North Korea, Syria, Somalia, Libya and our mortal enemies Russia and China. Our border is wide open and unguarded. Anyone can get in. You don't think they've noticed? You don't think they're sending spies and terrorists?

Can you tell the difference between a nice father and husband from Mexico or Guatemala, or a terrorist from Iran or Syria posing as a nice father? Of course not; no one can.

How many terror cells are walking into America at this moment? If I were the leader of a rogue terrorist nation, then I'd send hundreds of bloodthirsty terror cells across the open border. If even one gets through, it's a victory. What if hundreds get through?

Think about the Syrian refugee who, just days ago, committed mass murder in a Boulder, Colorado, grocery. He came to America as a child. Twenty years later, he committed mass murder. How many kids exactly like him are coming across that border? Ticking time bombs, who 10 or 20 years from now, will commit atrocities? Who would be dumb enough to let in thousands of future terrorists and mass murderers from countries that hate us?

Biden and his top officials have loudly, proudly and publicly promised no child will be turned away. There are almost 2 billion children age 14 or younger around the world. Most of them live in poverty and misery. What if they all come? Why wouldn't they? Biden is promising them free entry. Are you ready to share this country and our resources with a billion foreign mouths to feed?

How many murders, rapes, assaults, car-jackings and home invasion robberies will these strangers bring to our country? If I were the leader of a poor country, I'd open the prisons and tell my worst criminals to head for the U.S. border. Trust me, it's happening. Our cities will soon be overrun by violent crime.

The whole world is coming. Hundreds of millions in coming years. Maybe a billion. Maybe more. Biden has invited them all. They will turn America into an economic basket case. They will turn our streets into killing fields. They will bring disease and spread COVID. They will destroy our school system and health care system. They will create poverty from sea to shining sea. Taxes will reach 90% to pay for it all. This is the end of America.

At this point it's crystal clear. Biden and Democrats believe "American Lives Don't Matter."

My Fight With Canada’s Pravda: Is It Really Not Ok To Be White? - George Rojas

 by George Rojas

Welcome to the CBC's twisted world of woke racism.

Canada is an interesting place from a US politics perspective. In terms of left-wing authoritarianism, it’s always been about 2-to-5 years ahead of us Americans. As Rebel News-founder Ezra Levant told the US Congress once: “America should care about Canada because what happens in [] Canada soon comes—or tries to come—to the U.S… we’re a laboratory for bad ideas.”

For this reason, I like checking in on Canada’s state news broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. I don’t think the US will be getting officially government-sanctioned news any time soon—the CBC was created in the 30s to counter US-dominance of the country’s airwaves, so they’re in a special position. But Canada’s official outlet is fascinating because it has a special mandate to provide news and commentary to the taxpaying public (who shell out over US$1 billion per year for it) and yet it’s a hyper-elite institution that speaks only to a small part of the country.

Unsurprisingly then, it’s absolutely loathed by Canadian conservatives. When political scientist Eric Kaufmann commissioned a poll in Canada attempting to understand what the left and right most widely disagree on, he found it was ethnic diversity, Handmaid’s Tale-author Margaret Atwood, and the CBC.

In a recent check-up of mine, I found “a story” apparently deemed newsworthy by CBC editors involving some fool in the Toronto suburbs who thought it a good idea to put up stickers saying things like “It’s OK to be white” on a light post. Such an act ‘promoted white nationalism’, according to the CBC’s headline, and supposedly necessitated an interview with the local hate-crimes police unit—Canada does have criminal laws against ‘inciting or willfully promoting hatred’, although this “offense” doesn’t even come close.

Without a doubt, the “it’s OK…” meme finds resonance with combat-booted, shorn-headed types, but come on, I thought; it’s clearly a troll-ish bit of social satire drenched in irony. Purveyors of genuine “white nationalism” in Canada, just like here, are treated worse than pederasts. This, I thought, is surely not that.

One good thing about having a government agency produce the news for its subjects is that, in order to create the pretense of accountability, it has to have things like an Ombudsman’s office. So, I reached out to the CBC Ombudsman and put to him—a white boomer—that labelling the sticker as ‘racist-promoting material’ didn’t quite seem like proportionate word-choice, and that the whole thing veered very close to alarmist sensationalism.

In his reply, instead of humbly and perfunctorily responding with something along the lines of, ‘yes, it’s possible reporters may overstate things from time to time’, I received a 1,300-word tirade decrying literal Nazism. Again, this is an official spokesman for Canada’s state media behemoth.

Before digging into the CBC’s response in detail, I should note that I’ve been interested in memes and slogans for years and “It’s OK to be white” (IOTBW), while not my cup of tea, is clearly brilliant on both fronts. Just like “Black Lives Matter”, it’s facially self-evident and rests on an unarguable premise that simply stumps the listener. When phrased as a question, for instance, both slogans instinctually draw out the same affirmative response. It’s why, I suppose, whenever it shows up somewhere, it incurs an immediate and severe meltdown among woke authoritarians. This is exactly what happened here.

In my complaint, I cited a section of the CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices which requires that its reporters make “vocabulary choices… consistent with equal rights” regardless of race, etc. I also cited another section requiring them to avoid language “that could feed prejudice or expose people to hatred or contempt.” Clearly setting out a different set of standards for whites (would they write up a story about “It’s OK to be Asian” or black stickers, I asked?) doesn’t seem to be reconcilable with this principle.

For one, he said, I was wrong to treat the races the same. As he informed, “[t]here’s no history of South Asian communities, Black communities, Indigenous communities, etc., oppressing and exploiting the white majority in this country through systemic racism, or advocating the adoption of discriminatory public policies against the white majority.” In other words, expressing pro-in-group sentiments for minorities is fine. For the historic majority? Absolutely not. Y’know, ‘cause of history and stuff.

Such a response was as white-guilt-ridden as it was patronizing to minorities. Regarding the latter, it was if to say: ‘we’re above lowly parochialism, but not you guys!’

Then came the first N-bomb. As he stated, while his employer does indeed take its commitment to equal rights most seriously, they also have a “responsibility to report on the sudden appearance of racist propaganda in Canadian neighbourhoods”, including “posters promoting white nationalism” and… “neo-Nazism ideology.” So, to my original complaint about alarmist language vis-à-vis a dumb slogan, I received… alarmist word-choice.

IOTBW clearly is a reaction against something and finds resonance among some people for a reason. I do not deny this includes, to paraphrase him elsewhere, ‘malevolent bigots’, but it’s likely also deployed by regular people as simply a bit of provocation; people of any background who feel the current social tenor of things (statue-toppling, ‘anti-whiteness’-training at work, intersectionality in our elementary schools, etc.) definitely needs a bit of skewering.

And labelling those who are against white-shaming or anti-white animus as “white nationalist”, supremacists, Nazis, etc., is, in my mind, precisely something that ‘feeds prejudice or exposes people to hatred or contempt.’

In my reply, in fact, I put it to him whether it was actually possible to assert IOTBW sans Hitlerian baggage. Tellingly, he dodged the question.

Also interesting, although I didn’t even bring this up, I was informed that ‘Black Lives Matter’ differs from ‘All Lives Matter’ and ‘White Lives Matter’ because the former “commonly describes an anti-violence movement attempting to end all structural racism” and was founded on “horrific misery.” The latter, however, “conveys the ideology of white supremacists and neo-Nazis.”

While I do appreciate that words have connotations that go beyond their literal meaning, by “commonly” here, he really means what’s the common view held at the CBC HQ and within the other elite media circles he occupies. I’m certain there is a wide cross-section of people who believe ALM and even WLM is just as permissible as BLM (or, conversely, that none are, considering slogans should never replace actual discussion when it comes to racial issues).

I wouldn’t be as irritated with some of these commonly heard, but logic-free, positions if liberals applied them evenly. But they don’t. When I put it to the Ombudsman that Black Lives Matter is just as vulnerable to guilt-by-association claims as IOTBW is (supplying him with numerous examples of BLM activists’ racist crimes and anti-white vitriol), the spirit of scrutiny suddenly awoke in him and I was told “it’s problematic to characterize the philosophy of an entire group based solely on the commentary and/or behavior of a few individuals.” I do agree! Finally, common ground!

Democrats demand I.D.s for everything but voting - Eric Utter

 by Eric Utter

It is so much easier to steal an election when you don’t have to bother to verify or validate photos, signatures, and other voter-specific information against registered voter rolls.

Democrats and their fellow oligarchs in Corporate America demand a bachelor's degree before granting an interview for any worthwhile job.

We live in a hyper-credentialed society. Little girls need a government-granted license to sell lemonade at their sidewalk stands. One must provide a valid photo I.D. and be vetted by the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)—and possibly be subject to a several-day waiting period — to purchase a firearm. One must present a current, valid photo I.D. to cash a check, or buy a loaf of bread, a six-pack of beer, or pack of smokes at a grocery store. Want to board a plane? I.D. please. And probably soon, a vaccine I.D.

But one should never have to be troubled to identify oneself to vote for the most powerful person on earth, say Democrats. That would be racist!

So what if presidents have the ability to start wars, drone people dead, and significantly affect every nation’s economy?  So what if they effectively pick winners and losers by their actions? What’s the big deal if they increasingly attempt to strip citizens of their God-given liberties through “Executive Orders,” fiats, diktats and decrees? We mustn’t ask people to show an I.D. in order to vote for them! That would be, well, rude. And racist! Because all good progressives know that Black folks and peoples of color (POC) in general are incapable of obtaining-- and holding on to-- an I.D. I mean, even if they do have one, they probably don’t know where it is, right? Could be under the couch pillows or car seat, behind the toilet bowl, or in an old coat pocket, right?

This is all bass-ackwards… and I'm sick of it. Democrats use the system to take power and wealth whenever and however they can get it…and then pull up the ladder, to hell with everyone else. They aspire to keep African-Americans on their government-run plantation and make certain the little guy, entrepreneur, small businesswoman, and political opponent have no chance whatsoever to seriously interfere with their dominance. Which is precisely why they say the only time people shouldn’t have to identify themselves is when they are voting. It is so much easier to steal an election when you don’t have to bother to verify or validate photos, signatures, and other voter-specific information against registered voter rolls.

Democrats bellow: “How dare some Republicans call for voter integrity laws! Integrity? Integrity is racist! We’ll sic our corporate sponsors on you and you’ll be sorry! We’ll cancel any person, state or entity that dares to oppose us! And we have six ways from Sunday to destroy you.”

Democrats are against walls, except when they are protecting their own property. They denounce those who eschew facial masks during this “pandemic,” yet take their own masks off the moment the camera is no longer trained on them. They decry gun ownership, but typically have hired — and armed -- security to protect themselves, their loved ones, and their property. They are against school choice and vouchers, but almost unanimously send their own offspring to private schools. Conservatives are demonstrably and inarguably not guilty of “systemic” racism, intolerance and bigotry. Quite the opposite. The Democrat party, however, was, and is. Originally against Blacks and now against conservatives —  and anyone else who doesn’t toe the party line and revel in their infinite wokeness. And then it has the unmitigated gall to say of any completely fabricated “right-wing” transgression: “This isn’t who we are.”

It isn’t who we are. Unfortunately, we can’t say the same about left-wing actions and intolerance, because it is who we are at the moment, due to the hyper-tolerance, fecklessness, and timidity of those on the right.

In America’s bicentennial year of 1976, a movie called “Network” was released, in which a mentally unstable anchorman named Howard Beale informed his viewers that he was “as mad as hell” and “wasn’t going to take this anymore.”

It is long past time that conservatives say the same. And act on that conviction. If they don’t, there will not be a tricentennial.
