French Judiciary Frees Extremist Antisemitic Murderer - Guy Millière

 by Guy Millière

France's disgrace

  • The murderer, under the influence of an illicit substance, was immediately sent to a mental institution, not to prison. Who decided that? Usually, a person arrested after a crime and found to be "under the influence" is arrested, placed in a cell to sober up, then charged by a judge. Why was this case not treated the same way?

  • Judge Ihouelou repeatedly violated the most basic rules of her profession by behaving in a strikingly biased way. First, she refused to allow any reconstruction of the crime. She ruled that reconstructing the crime would be "traumatic" for the criminal. She also refused to meet the lawyers of the victim's sister and children to hear what they had to say.

  • How could a Court of Appeal validate an investigation in which a reconstruction of the crime never took place; in which the lawyers for the family were never heard, and at the end of which, the decision was rendered solely on the basis of a psychiatric report written months after the facts; based mainly on the statements of a murderer, and contradicted by another psychiatric report?

  • "[T]his affair... is also the illustration for those who might still need it, of the vital utility of Israel so that justice is done to the Jews all over the world.... due to the failure of French justice". — Raphaël Nisand French radio commentator, Tribune Juive, April 25, 2021.

  • A verdict based on an "acute delirium" leading to no longer being responsible for one's actions is medically unacceptable, because cannabis does not induce delirium, but only suspends inhibitions. "The murderer," he wrote, "clearly discerned the reference text which could guide his action, and far from creating confusion in him, cannabis only helped to lift ordinary inhibitions. The poison did not alter his behavior and his judgment, it magnified them". — Charles Melman, renowned French psychiatrist and founder of the International Freudian Association, Tribune Juive, May 5, 2021.

On April 4, 2017 in Paris, Kobili Traore, an immigrant from Mali who became a French citizen, tortured and murdered Sarah Halimi, a 65-year-old retired Jewish physician and educator. France's courts cleared the murderer of all charges on the grounds that he acted under the influence of marijuana. Every year in France, dozens of violent physical attacks against Jews take place. Paris, April 4, 2017. 4:00 am. A man breaks into the home of Sarah Halimi, a 65-year-old retired Jewish physician and educator. He beats and tortures her for over an hour while reciting verses from the Quran and repeatedly shouting, "Allahu Akbar!" [Allah is the greatest!"]. He uses anti-Semitic slurs and calls her "Sheitan" (Satan). He throws her from the balcony of her apartment and she falls to the ground, three floors below, dead. The police arrest him.

What happened was an unspeakable antisemitic murder. It was also the start of a process that brought to light once again the many serious and shameful dysfunctions that mark today's France.

The murderer, Kobili Traore, an immigrant from Mali who became a French citizen, is a recidivist criminal who had already been arrested and sentenced by the courts 20 times for violent assaults. He was nonetheless free. His only known professional activity is, in two words: drug dealer. He told the officers who arrested him that he is a drug addict and had smoked marijuana in the hours before the murder.

As a drug dealer, convicted time and again for violent assault, he was free to reoffend. This time, however, he committed murder.

The testimonies of Sarah Halimi's neighbors revealed that the police arrived at the scene of the murder while she was still alive. The police officers apparently went upstairs to her apartment door, heard her screaming and another voice shouting in Arabic. What did they do? They went back downstairs and waited for reinforcements -- until the victim was dead.

They left the murderer alone with his victim. Why is this not a clear case of dereliction of duty? Yet, no investigation has been carried out to determine what, if anything, was the responsibility of the police.

The neighbors' testimonies also revealed that Traore had met Dr. Halimi and her daughter several times in the stairwell of the building where he had threatened them and had called them "dirty Jews". Her neighbors added that Traore had often visited an Islamist mosque. Three days after the murder, on April 7, Paris prosecutor François Mollins nonetheless publicly declared that all the elements at his disposal showed that the murder of Sarah Halimi had "no antisemitic motive".

How could he have said that when so many elements available at the time showed exactly the opposite? The lawyers for Dr. Halimi's sister and children fought for more than six months before, on January 23, 2018, the antisemitic nature of the murder was recognized by French department of justice.

Irregularities took place that were even more scandalous:

  • The murderer, under the influence of an illicit substance, was immediately sent to a mental institution, not to prison. Who decided that? Usually, a person arrested after a crime and found to be "under the influence" is arrested, placed in a cell to sober up, then charged by a judge. Why was this case not treated the same way? Who made that decision and why?
  • The judge who conducted the investigation, Anne Ihouelou, is a member of the "Syndicat de la magistrature" (Magistrate's Union), a militant left-wing organization with a record of supporting the actions of Islamic organizations, including those of the Collectif contre l'Islamophobie en France (CCIF, Collective against Islamophobia in France), created by members of the Muslim Brotherhood (the leaders of the CCIF decided to dissolve the association in November 2020). Why, in the name of justice, would anyone entrust an investigation into the murder of a Jewish woman by an antisemitic Muslim to a member of an organization like that?

In addition, during the investigation, Judge Ihouelou repeatedly violated the most basic rules of her profession by behaving in a strikingly biased way. First, she refused to allow any reconstruction of the crime. She ruled that reconstructing the crime would be "traumatic" for the criminal. She also refused to meet the lawyers of the victim's sister and children to hear what they had to say. She still has never met them. She has also never responded to letters they sent her presenting their arguments. She did, however, ask a psychiatrist, Daniel Zagury, for his expert opinion. His report stated that even though at the time of the incident the killer was under the influence of marijuana and in a state of "acute delirium", he could nonetheless be held responsible for his actions.

Six months later, in April 2018, Judge Ihouelou requested a second expert opinion. This time, she chose a group headed by another psychiatrist, Paul Bensussan. His report concluded that the "acute delirium" made the murderer not responsible for his actions, implied that Traore was not guilty and therefore could not be tried. Ihouelou requested a third report, from a third psychiatrist, Roland Coutanceau, who did not decide one way or the other. Eventually she selected the conclusions of the Bensussan report, and, on July 12, 2019, in agreement with two other judges, declared the murderer not guilty and cleared of all charges.

The file was immediately sent to the Court of Appeal. On December 19, 2019, its decision stated that the Traore had indeed committed an antisemitic murder, but it validated the decision of Judge Ihouelou, and said that he was not responsible for his actions at the time of the murder and could therefore be granted his freedom.

How could a Court of Appeal validate an investigation in which a reconstruction of the crime never took place; in which the lawyers for the family were never heard, and at the end of which, the decision was rendered solely on the basis of a psychiatric report written months after the facts; based mainly on the statements of a murderer, and contradicted by another psychiatric report?

The Court of Cassation (the highest Court in the French judicial system) was called on to make a final decision. On April 14, 2021, it validated the decision of the Court of Appeal. The murderer will walk free.

The French Jewish community, for four years, was virtually alone in demanding justice for Sarah Halimi.

For six weeks after Halimi's murder, the mainstream French media did not even mention it. The French presidential elections were close. "Two weeks before the elections," university professor Sarah Cattan said on the French public radio channel, France Culture, "the government did everything to prevent publicity on an antisemitic murder". So, apparently an antisemitic murder, committed in Paris, was hidden from the French public for political reasons.

After May 7 and the second round of the French presidential elections, France's mainstream media continued to remain silent about the murder. The first article about it, published on May 23, 2017, in the daily Le Monde, asked, "Was Sarah Halimi killed 'because she was Jewish?'" Its answer seemed to be no. On June 1, 2017, a statement signed by 17 intellectuals was published in the daily Le Figaro: "Let the truth be told about the murder of Sarah Halimi". The text spoke of "rare barbarism" and said that the murderer had shouted "Allahu Akbar", but the words "Islamic antisemitism" are nowhere to be found. "Denouncing far-right antisemitism is very easy in France," said geopolitical analyst Alexandre del Valle, "denouncing Islamic antisemitism is almost impossible. Attempting to do so immediately arouses heated reactions from Muslim organizations, and the mainstream media and political leaders prefer to avoid any trouble".

The decision of the Court of Appeal has caused immense outrage in the French Jewish community. "A Sarah Halimi jurisprudence has just been created", said Francis Szpiner, the lawyer for Halimi's children: "any person declared to be suffering from a delusional puff because he took an illicit substance dangerous for his health will be exempt from criminal liability". Gilles-William Goldnadel, lawyer for Sarah Halimi's sister, called the finding an "ideological decision".

The ruling of the Court of Cassation again caused outrage in the French Jewish community. Joel Mergui, president of the Israelite Central Consistory of France, wrote:

"[T]his decision risks significantly eroding the confidence that the Jews of France have in the justice of their country and in its capacity to protect them.... The judiciary considered that the murderer did not have enough discernment to be judged, but, according to the same judiciary, he had enough discernment to choose his victim, remember their religion, and commit a murder recognized as anti-Semitic".

"Deciding to take narcotics and then 'going mad' should, not in my view, remove your criminal responsibility", said French President Emmanuel Macron, adding that the French laws needed to be changed.

Meyer Habib, the Member of Parliament representing the Eighth Constituency for French residents overseas (elected by French citizens residing in Cyprus, Greece, the Vatican, Israel, Italy, Malta, San Marino and Turkey), commented that even if the laws were changed, the murderer of Sarah Halimi would be free anyway.

Demonstrations were organized -- in Paris and other major cities such as Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, London, New York, and Los Angeles -- to demand justice for Sarah Halimi. Sadly, those who demonstrated were almost all Jews. The protests are unlikely to change the situation. Legally, the decision of the Court of Cassation cannot be reversed.

An Algerian author, Boualem Sansal, wrote a courageous article in which he explicitly denounced:

"all those who in one way or another made it possible that one day, in France, in Paris, an Islamist enters the home of a woman, an neighbor in this case, of the Jewish faith, tortures her and throws her out of a window while shouting Allahu Akbar, and is now free, free to continue his miserable existence, honored and congratulated as one would suspect by his own for having fulfilled a founding commandment pronounced by Allah against Jews and Christians, [and] repeatedly recalled in his sacred book, the Koran ... The murderer is officially authorized to continue his work of hatred and death".

Nili Naouri-Kupfer, president of the organization "Israël is Forever" wrote:

"The French government and justice department are afraid of the Muslim voters, afraid of the Muslim street. They think it doesn't matter if a few Jews are killed if peace can exist in their cities. They choose to sacrifice Jews rather than face the Muslim threat, therefore there never again will be peace in France! "

"I no longer trust the justice of my country", wrote a lawyer, Gilles-William Goldnadel. He filed a complaint against the murderer, invoking Article 13 of an Israeli procedural law stating that in the event of an assault on the life of a Jew committed abroad, Israeli law applies. Francis Szpiner, a lawyer currently serving as the mayor of the 16th arrondissement in Paris, joined in the complaint.

A radio commentator, Raphaël Nisand, on the French station, Radio Judaïca, wrote in the weekly Tribune Juive:

"[T]his affair is... the illustration for those who might still need it, of the vital utility of Israel so that justice is done to the Jews all over the world. This evidence, inaugurated with the Eichmann trial, unfortunately regains all its force due to the failure of French justice".

A renowned French psychiatrist, Charles Melman, founder of the International Freudian Association, observed that a verdict based on an "acute delirium" leading to no longer being responsible for one's actions is medically unacceptable, because cannabis does not induce delirium, but only suspends inhibitions:

"[T]he murderer clearly discerned the reference text which could guide his action, and far from creating confusion in him, cannabis only helped to lift ordinary inhibitions. The poison did not alter his behavior and his judgment, it magnified them."

Sarah Halimi is now part of the long list of Jews murdered in France by people imbued with Islamic antisemitic hatred. Sebastien Sellam, 23, was stabbed to death in November 2003 by his neighbor, Adel Amastaibou, who told police, "I killed a Jew. It was what Allah wanted". He had smoked cannabis. A psychiatrist said that he had committed a "delusional act". He was declared not responsible for his act by the court and quickly released. Ilan Halimi, 23 as well, was kidnapped, tortured and murdered less than three years later by a group led by Youssouf Fofana, who claimed that he had acted in the name of Allah. The atrocious attack on a Jewish school in Toulouse on March 19, 2012 by Mohamed Merah left four dead: three children and the father of two of them. The attack on a kosher supermarket near Paris also left four dead, all Jews. Mireille Knoll, an 85 year-old woman who had survived the Holocaust ,was murdered in Paris by her neighbor, Yacine Mihoub, a few miles from Sarah Halimi's apartment, on March 23, 2018, less than a year after the murder of Sarah Halimi.

Every year in France, dozens of violent physical attacks against Jews take place. The French Service for the Protection of the Jewish Community states that 44 attacks occurred in 2020, some extremely serious. Sammy Ghozlan, president of the National Office for Vigilance Against Antisemitism, remarked that attacks against Jews in France are far more numerous, but that their victims are often afraid to file a complaint.

Commenting on a report on anti-Semitism in eleven European countries, investigative reporter Judith Miller wrote on February 17, 2020: "The most dangerous place to be a Jew in Europe is France".

"Without French Jews", said former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls after the attack on the kosher supermarket, "France is not France".

On April 25 in Paris, Sarah Halimi's brother, William Attal, addressed a crowd. Once again, he explained in detail the atrocities suffered by his sister and added that a country where an antisemitic murderer can be freed by a questionable decision of the judiciary is a fallen country. "Is France," he asked, "still France?'

Blinken and a Repeat of 'Eyeless in Gaza' Saga - Amir Taheri

 by Amir Taheri

Blinken should not throw money where it ends up in the hands of Hamas, which pursues jihad as part of a global terror organization.

  • Ali Khamenei asserts that he has received "a divine pledge that total victory is on the way", and demands that the two groups continue the fight until "our holy land is cleansed of the existence of the usurper".

  • The daily Kayhan, reputed to reflect Khamenei's views, claims that Hamas and Islamic Jihad rockets and missiles could now reach 75 percent of the Israeli territory. The aim now is to increase that to 100 percent which, if combined with the Lebanese Hezbollah's rocket and missile arsenals, could pave the way for the "total victory" that Khamenei demands.

  • In other words, at least part of the misery that Gazans suffer is due to the no-holds-barred civil war between Fatah and Islamist Jihadis led by Hamas.

  • The "urgent aid package" that Khamenei promises includes none of those things. The "Supreme Guide" couldn't care less how Gazans live or die; he is only interested in how many rockets and missiles they can launch against Israel, providing him with a bunker to boast about and hide the fundamental weakness of his shaky regime.

  • What if Gazans don't want their tiny chunk of God's earth to be a bunker for foreign potentates in search of cut-price glory...?

  • Blinken should not throw money where it ends up in the hands of Hamas, which pursues jihad as part of a global terror organization.

"The advanced bunker of the Resistance Front". This is how official media in Tehran describe the Gaza Strip as it emerges from its latest mini-war against "The Zionist enemy". Needless to say, Iran's "Supreme Guide" Ali Khamenei, regarding himself as leader of the "Resistance Front," is already looking forward to the next round of this sordid duel. In messages to Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas and Ziyad Nakhalah of the Islamic Jihad for the liberation of Palestine, "Supreme Guide" Ali Khamenei asserts that he has received "a divine pledge that total victory is on the way", and demands that the two groups continue the fight until "our holy land is cleansed of the existence of the usurper".

Tehran media claim that "the great victory" supposedly achieved by Hamas and Islamic Jihad is, to a large extent, due to financial, material and training support from the Islamic Republic.

The daily Kayhan, reputed to reflect Khamenei's views, claims that Hamas and Islamic Jihad rockets and missiles could now reach 75 percent of the Israeli territory. The aim now is to increase that to 100 percent which, if combined with the Lebanese Hezbollah's rocket and missile arsenals, could pave the way for the "total victory" that Khamenei demands.

Last January, the "Supreme Guide" ordered the allocation of an extra $200 million to the Quds Force, the body in charge of "exporting revolution". And last week, the Islamic Majlis, Tehran's ersatz parliament, increased the budget of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps by over 60 percent. Khamenei's spending spree is premised on the hoped of a quick lifting of US and other sanctions, which have produced the worst cash flow problem the 41-year-old regime has ever seen.

To sell this mad project to the average Iranian, who is facing economic meltdown, double-digit inflation, mass unemployment, Covid-19 chaos and unbridled corruption at all levels, Tehran propagandists have developed a narrative of victimhood with Hamas and Islamic Jihad as the "good ones" and the "Zionist enemy" as the "evil party." According to this narrative, the Gaza twins were victims of Israeli occupation and then a blockade that made life miserable for the 1.8 million inhabitants of the strip.

Several key points are left out, however, including the facts that, under the Oslo Accords, Gaza was put under the suzerainty of the Palestinian Authority and that Israel ended its occupation of Gaza in 2005. In 2007, Hamas and its smaller partners staged a coup against the Palestinian Authority to establish an authoritarian one-party system that regards Gaza as a base for radical pan-Islamism only incidentally related to the Palestinian issue.

That move led the Palestinian Authority, a de facto embryonic government dominated by Fatah, to demand a blockade of Gaza and the continued disbursement of customs proceeds from Gaza to Ramallah.

The blockade was not a solitary move by Israel as Egypt, too, joined it as a gesture of support for the Palestinian Authority. Since then, the PA has never formally demanded that Israel and Egypt end the blockade. In other words, at least part of the misery that Gazans suffer is due to the no-holds-bar civil war between Fatah and Islamist Jihadis led by Hamas.

The daily Kayhan talks of "the urgent need for more and more effective missiles and rockets" for Gaza.

But is that a priority as far as Gazans are concerned?

A United Nations report in 2019 gave a different version of "urgent needs in Gaza": at least 800 more hospital beds, 1,000 more doctors, 2,000 more nurses, 250 more schools, hundreds of housing units to shelter multigenerational refugees, and, last but not least, projects to supply fresh water and reliable electricity.

The "urgent aid package" that Khamenei promises includes none of those things. The "Supreme Guide" couldn't care less how Gazans live or die; he is only interested in how many rockets and missiles they can launch against Israel, providing him with a bunker to boast about and hide the fundamental weakness of his shaky regime.

What if Gazans don't want their tiny chunk of God's earth to be a bunker for foreign potentates in search of cut-price glory, potentates from Gamal Abdel-Nasser to Saddam Hussein to Ruhollah Khomeini and latecomers like Khamenei and Recep Tayyip Erdogan?

Gazans could imagine a different future for their land. They own 41 kilometres of prime real estate on the Mediterranean coast that could be developed to rival any beach, from the French Riviera to Tel Aviv. The recent discovery of off-shore oil and gas resources could open the money faucet for Gaza as it has for others in the region and beyond.

A stable Gaza that rejects the suicidal policies of Hamas and its changing masters could attract massive investment if only from scores of Palestinians who have succeeded all over the world. Compared to the average levels in the so-called "developing world" Gaza has a better-educated and skilled work force that could play a role in developing a modern, even high-tech economy close to major markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

During their long struggle for independence, the political elites of Timor Island, a former Portuguese colony that had fallen under Indonesian occupation, wasted decades usurping the forlorn aim of destroying the Indonesian state. They ended up realising that the reality of securing an independent state only in the eastern half of their island was a better option than fighting, killing and dying, for "total victory" of the kind Khamenei now promises to Gazans.

The new US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, is repeating the "two-state" mantra as appetiser for his maiden visit to the region. That amounts to a new version of the "Eyeless in Gaza" saga. Blinken should not throw money where it ends up in the hands of Hamas, which pursues Jihad as part of a global terror organization.

Kayhan says Gazans are "thirsty for martyrdom". I doubt that even Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders, who have property and bank accounts abroad, are keen to die for a lost cause. Rather than chest-beating for "suffering Gazans," the outside world should help depict an alternative vision for them, a vision based on life and dignity rather than terror and tragedy.

Biden’s Budget is One More Biden Blunder - Michael Busler

 by Michael Busler

If his proposal is implemented, it may take years to fix.

Aside from the blunders President Biden has made concerning the border crisis, energy policy, and foreign policy, his biggest blunders are on economic policy.  Based on his latest budget proposal, he is trying to commit his biggest blunder.

Biden’s proposed budget vastly increases government spending and government taxation, while creating trillion-dollar annual budget deficits well into the future.

Let’s factually take a look at the current situation.  The economy right now is growing at the fastest pace in nearly four decades.  It is likely that growth this year will hit 8%.  Last quarter we grew at 6.4%, up from 4.2% the prior quarter. The economy is growing very well, and we are near the level that we were prior to the virus.  There is no problem with growth.

But inflation is a problem.  Despite the administration’s position, inflation is right now a serious problem that will get worse the longer we wait to react to it.  Biden’s budget proposal will make the inflation problem much worse.

The inflation data is presented in a number of ways to consumers.  Sometimes a monthly price index is given, which compares consumer prices to the prior month.  Sometimes the index is compared to the same month last year.

The critical and most valuable information tells us what is happening now.  From January to April of this year, the monthly Consumer Price Index went from .3% to .4% to .6% to .8%.  That means since January inflation is running at about a 6% annual rate and it is increasing.

To stop this from getting worse, the federal government must change both Monetary and Fiscal Policy, immediately.

With Monetary Policy, the Federal Reserve must quickly and gradually, reverse its policy of buying $120 billion of government debt monthly.  This reversal will slow the growth of the already oversized money supply.  The Fed must also begin to immediately and gradually raise interest rates.  These actions will take some excess demand out of the economy.

After having run up $6.5 trillion in deficits in 2020 and 2021, the government needs to reduce its spending and reduce the deficit.  The reduced spending will similarly take excess demand out of the economy, which puts downward pressure on price. The reduced deficits will take pressure off capital markets.

Considering where we are and where the trends are leading, President Biden’s budget proposal is the exact opposite of the proper Fiscal Policy.  His proposed massive increase in government spending will flood the market with excess demand. Biden says that will lead to growth. But really it will lead to more inflation in the short term and possibly stagflation in the longer term.

This Biden Blunder may be the worst of all.  It could have long term, very negative effects on price stability, growth, and employment. If his proposal is implemented, it may take years to fix.

To be fair, his economic advisors would disagree.  They would say that this view is based on an inflation fear.  They would argue that the current inflation is primarily a result of supply chain disruptions brought about by COVID, bad weather, and suppliers’ failure to anticipate the high growth the economy has seen since last May.

They note that the economy is now almost fully re-opened.  In the next few months supply will catch up to demand and inflation will subside.  Once that happens there will be no need for the Federal Reserve to immediately change its policy.  It also means that the President can put forth a bold plan for government spending without any inflation fear.

Unfortunately, the current and future inflation problem is not mostly caused by supply chain disruptions.  This inflation is caused by rapidly rising energy prices which will continue as the Biden Administration restricts supply while worldwide demand increases.

Also, the Money Supply has grown more than 25% in the last two years.  Once our economy reaches full capacity, which will be in the next month or so, this money supply growth is highly inflationary, especially in an economy that is growing at an 8% rate.

Those huge budget deficits are also highly inflationary.  A total of $6.5 trillion of excess demand from the federal government deficits in the last two years is inflationary to an economy that generates about $21 trillion annually in GDP.

Inflation will continue to be a problem after the economy fully re-opens. Consumers are flush with cash mostly from the free money the federal government gave out.  That too will add to inflation.

President Biden’s budget proposal is his biggest Biden blunder yet.

Bennett announces plan to form gov't with Lapid that will oust Netanyahu - Gil Hoffman

 by Gil Hoffman

Sa'ar turned down Likud's offer for first place in PM rotation • New Hope and Yesh Atid negotiating teams will meet to form a unity government.

Yamina leader Naftali Bennett delivered his long-awaited announcement on Sunday that he would join a government with Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid and seek to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who he accused of leading Israel to national suicide for his own personal reasons.

Yesh Atid and Yamina began negotiations immediately following the announcement on Sunday night in an effort to reach an agreement by Wednesday’s deadline.

A vote of confidence in the government and a swearing-in ceremony could take place that day. But legally, once Lapid tells President Reuven Rivlin he can form a government, he has a week to do it.

Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin could block the vote for up to a week. But his spokesman said he would not engage in political tricks.

“At such a crucial moment, responsibility must be taken,” Bennett said. “Therefore, I am announcing today that I intend to act with all my strength to form a national-unity government together with my friend Yair Lapid so that, God willing, together we will rescue the country from this tailspin, and we will get Israel back on track.

“Yair and I disagree on a number of issues of substance. But we are partners in our love for the country and willingness to work for the sake of the country.”

Bennett invited parties to show restraint in achieving their goals in coalition talks and in the government. More elections would collapse the country, he said, adding that he had decided instead to “stop the craziness.”

“The only options are a unity government or elections,” he said. “Those saying a right-wing government is possible are lying.”

In response, Netanyahu said if Bennett would have allowed Lapid’s mandate to form a government to end on Wednesday night, MKs from the so-called change camp would have defected and enabled the formation of a right-wing government.

Bennett was acting for his own personal interests, knowing that if there were to be another election, his political career would be over, he said, adding: “No one would have voted for you if they knew what you would do.”

What Bennett was forming was not a unity government but a weak government that would harm Israel’s deterrence, Netanyahu said. He compared it to what is happening in politics in Syria and Iran.

Earlier, Yamina leaders Bennett and Ayelet Shaked spoke in favor of forming a unity government with Lapid at Sunday’s Yamina faction meeting, and they received backing from the MKs in the faction, a party spokesman said.

“Leadership means taking responsibility and not running from it,” Bennett told the faction. “We have redlines, and we will not cross them. We will not give up territory or harm the Jewish identity of the State of Israel. It would be easy to remain stubborn and light fires like others. That is the way to make the country come apart.”

The only Yamina MK of the seven who has vowed to rebel is Amichai Chikli, who did not attend the meeting. He would vote against the government Bennett and Lapid will form and keep his seat in the Knesset despite pressure from inside his party to resign, he said in radio interviews.

“Black flags hover over” such a government, Chikli wrote on Twitter on Saturday night in a reference to the Black Flag protest movement that has tried to bring Netanyahu down.

New Hope leader Gideon Sa’ar turned down offers from Likud on Sunday morning to rotate as prime minister with Netanyahu and then Bennett in a three-man rotation.

Likud negotiator Yaakov Atraktzi made the offer in a conversation with Sa’ar on Saturday night. According to the offer, Sa’ar would serve as prime minister for the first 15 months, followed by Netanyahu for two years and then Bennett for the remainder of the term.

Netanyahu put the offer in writing and got the leaders of Shas, United Torah Judaism and the Religious Zionist Party to sign it.

“In an effort to end personal considerations and take unprecedented, far-reaching steps to guarantee the security and the character of the State of Israel and prevent the formation of a left-wing government that would endanger the state, we the undersigned party heads are making this offer,” the letter to Bennett and Sa’ar says.

In a social-media post, Netanyahu said he had invited Sa’ar and Bennett to meet immediately and close a deal for a right-wing government.

Sa’ar reacted on Twitter by reiterating his party’s opposition to Netanyahu remaining in power.“

Our position and our obligation remains to replace Netanyahu’s rule,” he wrote. “We will continue to act in accordance with that. Warm recommendation for the next few days: Ignore the political spin.”

The negotiating teams of New Hope and Yesh Atid met Sunday in an effort to finalize an agreement on a unity government.Lapid and Bennett have agreed that Bennett will serve first as prime minister until September 2023, and Lapid will take over until the term ends in November 2025.

St. Louis Mayor Guts the Police - Matthew Vadum

 by Matthew Vadum

Tishaura Jones faithfully fulfills the leftist agenda.

The newly arrived radical leftist mayor of St. Louis, Missouri, the city with the worst murder rate in America, is committed to leaving her constituents at the mercy of violent criminals by defunding the local police department and shutting down one of the city’s two jails.

St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones, a woke black Democrat, was sworn in in April after narrowly defeating Cara Spencer, a similarly woke leftist white woman.

Jones’s campaign, which focused on “progressive” criminal justice reforms, was unabashedly racist. She said during a debate that Spencer wouldn’t be a good mayor because her skin was the wrong color.

A “white person doesn’t have to worry about their children getting hit by a stray bullet when he’s outside,” Jones said. “While I appreciate the role of white allies in this movement of progress, I don’t believe that they have the lived experiences to lead a majority-minority city.”

Her victory speech was weighted down with platitudes.

“I will not stay silent when I spot racism,” Jones said. “I will not stay silent when I spot homophobia or transphobia. I will not stay silent when I spot xenophobia. I will not stay silent when I spot religious intolerance. I will not stay silent when I spot any injustice.”

Her father is crooked former elected official Virvus Jones. Mr. Jones was the city’s chief financial officer from 1988 to 1995 when he left office after pleading guilty to felony tax fraud.

His Twitter feed is woke, incendiary, and subversive. His Twitter profile is a cross between Hillary Clinton and Nero. It reads simply: “An African Proverb: The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.”

In a May 23 tweet he whined as follows: “Warrants issued for non violent or victimless crimes should not be a death sentence for black people. Police in the US are the equivalence [sic] of slave patrols[,]” he wrote, embracing a lie promoted by the 1619 Project. “Most of the warrants the police serve are not for violent crimes so there is no reason to shoot at a person fleeing.”

St. Louis is in rough shape as Mayor Jones takes the reins.

The city had 262 homicides or 87 homicides per 100,000 residents in 2020, the highest in the country, Fox News reported, and it is on track to break that record this year.

As of April 7, St. Louis had 50 homicides since January 1, 2021, an increase of 10 from April 7 the previous year.

The 262 figure for 2020 is five less than the record of 267 set in 1993, according to police. “But because the city’s population has declined since 1993, the per capita homicide rate was much higher in 2020. The homicide pace in 2021 is ahead of last year's pace,” KMOV4 reports.

"More police doesn't prevent crime," Jones told The Telegraph.

The mayor wants to cut $4 million from the police department’s budget and give it to social workers and civil rights bureaucrats. She would also eliminate nearly 100 vacant police positions and zero-out funding for a medium-security jail.

“What we’ve been doing doesn’t work,” Jones said when she unveiled the proposed budget. “This revised budget will start St. Louis on a new path to tackling some of the root causes of crime.”

Of course, to left-wingers, “root causes” is a weasel phrase meant to absolve bad actors of responsibility for their crimes. It’s always society’s fault when a criminal commits a crime, they say, especially when the criminal is a minority. Spending more money on welfare giveaways will solve the problem, they claim.

"We don't need two jails," Jones told reporters after dropping by both of the city's lockups with deranged racist Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) in April. "We need to move people through the system, we need to find alternatives to jails for some of the offenses," she said.

On May 21, Bush herself tweeted, “Investing more money in policing is always bad, actually.”

St. Louis Interim Public Safety Director Daniel Isom seems to agree, saying historically there has been an overemphasis on using police to fight crime.

“There must be a balance,” Isom said. “I think it has been tipped toward policing and the criminal justice system so far and that the other parts of rehabilitation, investment in communities and investment in people, in terms of trying to change their life conditions, that portion of the strategy had always been minimized.”

“We’ve had an overemphasis on law enforcement as a solution,” he said. “I’ve talked about it throughout my tenure as police chief, that law enforcement is not the solution. The solution is investing in people, investing in communities, investing in families.”

What’s happening in St. Louis is happening all across America.

Deluded leftists have defunded –meaning reduced funding— for police or have tried to defund police in New York City; Washington D.C.; San Francisco; Baltimore; Minneapolis; Austin, Texas; Philadelphia; Los Angeles; Atlanta; Seattle; Portland, Oregon; Hartford, Connecticut; and Norman, Oklahoma.

Left-wingers claim decimating police budgets doesn’t hurt communities.

They’re lying.

In Minneapolis, where drug-addled career criminal George Floyd was not killed by police, homicides shot up 60 percent in 2020. In Atlanta, 2020 was the city’s most violent in years. Atlanta cops investigated 157 homicides last year, up from 99 in 2019, and the highest number in more than two decades.

You get the picture.

As crime begins to spiral out of control in communities they have caused to be under-policed, the Left will come up with excuses: the police budget wasn’t cut enough; not enough money was blown on welfare; Republicans sabotaged the policies; or maybe toxic masculinity or “whiteness” somehow poisoned the atmosphere.

Leftists will do anything to escape the blame for the destruction they cause.

Killer drone ‘hunted down a human target’ without being told to - Paula Froelich

 by Paula Froelich
Legislation nedded against "killer robots"?

Arnold Schwarzenegger could’ve seen this one coming.

After a United Nations commission to block killer robots was shut down in 2018, a new report from the international body now says the Terminator-like drones are now here.

Last year "an autonomous weaponized drone hunted down a human target last year" and attacked them without being specifically ordered to, according to a report from the UN Security Council’s Panel of Experts on Libya, published in March 2021 that was published in the New Scientist magazine and the Star.

DRONES HARASSED US WARSHIPS OFF CALIFORNIA

The March 2020 attack was in Libya and perpetrated by a Kargu-2 quadcopter drone produced by Turkish military tech company STM "during a conflict between Libyan government forces and a breakaway military faction led by Khalifa Haftar, commander of the Libyan National Army," the Star reports, adding: "The Kargu-2 is fitted with an explosive charge and the drone can be directed at a target in a kamikaze attack, detonating on impact."

The drones were operating in a "highly effective" autonomous mode that required no human controller and the report notes:

NEW PENTAGON REPORT SEEKS TO COUNTER DRONE SWARM ATTACKS

"The lethal autonomous weapons systems were programmed to attack targets without requiring data connectivity between the operator and the munition: in effect, a true ‘fire, forget and find’ capability" – suggesting the drones attacked on their own.

Zak Kallenborn, at the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism in Maryland, said this could be the first time that drones have autonomously attacked humans and raised the alarm.

"How brittle is the object recognition system?" Kallenborn asked in the report. "… how often does it misidentify targets?"

Jack Watling at UK defense think tank Royal United Services Institute, told New Scientist: "This does not show that autonomous weapons would be impossible to regulate," he says. "But it does show that the discussion continues to be urgent and important. The technology isn’t going to wait for us."

In August of last year, Human Rights Watch warned of the need for legislation against "killer robots" while NYC mayoral candidate Andrew Yang has called for a global ban on them – something the US and Russia are against.

The truth about the Hamas terrorist organization - Ben-Dror Yemini

 by Ben-Dror Yemini

Hat tip: Dr. Carolyn Tal

Despite the rampant criticism of Israel, history and facts prove that the Palestinian group is not interested in prosperity just terrorism and the total destruction of Israel; this is why Israel is not only right to attack Hamas, it is actually bound to do so

One can and should understand the reaction of television viewers around the world who are moved by the images of destruction and devastation coming from both the Gaza Strip and cities in Israel.

Many good people claim that the blame for the current conflict lies with Israel, since it is clearly stronger than Hamas. A quick flick through the various channels also reveal a wave of unfounded allegations against Israel.

Needless to say, this is an unequivocal show of anti-Semitism. But it is also necessary to add that it is simply born of ignorance.

And so, here are the basic facts everyone should know.

In 2007, Hamas violently seized control of the Gaza Strip, eliminating in the process hundreds of members of the rival Fatah movement that is headed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Some were even murdered by being thrown off the roofs of tower blocks.

The Hamas - an organization affiliated with the radical Muslim Brotherhood - has a senior spokesman who calls not only for the destruction of Israel and the Jewish people as a whole, but also seeks to conquer Rome, and "the two Americas."

Hamas also publicly and officially calls for the “extermination of Jews and Christians to the last." Hamas teaches these destructive worldviews as early as kindergarten.

At the political spectrum of Islamic organizations, Hamas holds an extreme ideology not to that of al-Qaeda and the Islamic State.

Despite this, the international community offered Hamas an outline that would allow it to receive large-scale aid.

In 2006, the Middle East Quartet (Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations) presented to Hamas the three preconditions for continued Western aid: The recognition of Israel, cessation of terrorism and recognition of previous agreements.

These prerequisites were later made public in three separate statements made by then-UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, then U.S. Secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, and former EU foreign policy czar Javier Solana.

The offer for Western aid, which included $600 million in assistance from the European Union and another $400 million from the United States, was quickly and summarily rejected by Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, who claimed that “Hamas was impervious to bribery, intimidation and blackmail.”
The international community refused to throw in the towel, and in 2007 the offer to provide aid to the Palestinian people came up again.

This time it was Ismail Haniyeh, who was the Palestinian prime minister on behalf of Hamas at the time, who rejected the offer, arguing that “it is the right of the Palestinians to continue their resistance by all means."

Consequently, the headline in the international Arabic news outlet Al-Jazeera read: “Palestinians reject Quartet demands.”

Hamas chose, and continues to choose to this day, terrorisms over prosperity. In 2014, when the Israel-Gaza conflict began, the ministers of the EU offered the Palestinians aid in exchange for "the demilitarization of all terrorist organizations."

France, the United Kingdom and Germany presented a detailed plan. The EU made one more attempt to end the fighting in the Strip, and again made an official offer for rehabilitating Gaza in return for demilitarization.

And while Israel approved of the offer that would see the conflict promptly end, Hamas again refused.
In 2017, Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ new leader in Gaza, reiterated once again that "Hamas will never recognize Israel."

In February 2018, when tensions between Israel and Hamas rose once again, the EU once again presented its aid offer to no avail.

In other words: Hamas does not want prosperity, it wants terrorism. Even so, again and again for humanitarian reasons, Israel allows the flow of hundreds of millions of dollars into the Strip along with hundreds of trucks carrying supplies into the Gaza Strip on a daily basis. It did not help.

Hamas used the money to fund the terrorist tunnels that go beneath Gaza into Israeli territory.

One more thing to keep in mind: wherever the branches of political Islam rule, destruction, bloodshed and destruction prevail.

After all, the large majority of Hamas’ victims are Muslims. Even Hamas rockets, which fall within the Gaza Strip itself once every six or seven times, have killed more Palestinians than Israelis.

Does this bother them? Without the blockade, Iran would not be supplying medicine, it would be supplying rockets. Without the blockade, the Hamas regime would expand its industry of death.
Without the blockade, the would not be building schools or industry that led to prosperity, Hamas would be building more tools of destruction meant for mass murder. This is not an opinion. This is what is they are doing today. These are the facts.

According to one claim, even if Israel has the right to strike at Hamas, its response is disproportionate. This is a strange claim. No country has eve
r taken so many measures meant to prevent civilian casualties.

The IDF, more than any other military in the world in similar operations, is making a supreme effort to reduce innocent casualties. This has been affirmed by world-renowned experts in military law.
One such expert is Prof. Wolff Heintschel, who said that, "The IDF takes many more precautions than are required, setting an unreasonable precedent.”

Another is Prof. Michael Schmitt, who argued that “The IDF’s warnings [to avoid civilian casualties] certainly go beyond what the law requires, but they also sometimes go beyond what would be operational good sense elsewhere."

But who are they, these world renowned experts compared to nobodies in the global media who constantly criticize Israel without knowing what they are talking about.

When images of destruction are shown to the world, one can understand the demand for a ceasefire. But no one has the right to demand anything of Israel.

Even Sweden would have bombed any target of the Islamic Jihad organization near its border if it had fired missiles at Stockholm.

Background and facts are important. It is vital to know that Hamas is a radical jihadist organization that Israel has not only a right, but the obligation, to separate from its weaponry.
