Principles of New Environmentalism - Edward Ring

by Edward Ring

A new environmentalism challenges climate alarmism, rejects false scarcity, and defends both ecological integrity and human freedom through practical, market-based solutions.

Last month, in recognition of the annual celebration of Earth Day, it seemed appropriate to compile a list of ten common myths that constitute the major premises of modern environmentalism. That list, along with explanations of why each of these premises is unfounded and counterproductive, can be summarized as follows:

1 – There is no climate crisis.
2 – There are not too many people on Earth.
3 – We are not running out of oil/gas/coal.
4 – Biofuel is not renewable or sustainable.
5 – Offshore wind is not renewable or sustainable.
6 – Renewables are not renewable.
7 – Renewables cannot replace oil/gas/coal.
8 – Housing should not be confined to densifying existing cities.
9 – Mass transit is almost never cost-effective.
10 – Wilderness areas are not sacred.

Environmentalism, pursuant to these myths, is not a movement primarily devoted to protecting the planet’s ecosystems. It is a totalitarian political agenda that aims to consolidate power and wealth in the hands of a managerial elite that will wield absolute control over every aspect of human life. Where you live or travel, what you purchase or produce, and what you can own and consume will all be specified, monitored, and rationed. And the moral justification for this will be the “climate emergency.”

There are few examples in history that can compare to the political power grab enabled by the alleged “existential threat” of climate change. But of equal concern is the fraudulent essence of the economic and technological agenda pushed in the name of fighting climate change. It not only discredits environmentalism in the eyes of awakening millions, but, as explained in the ten myths, it also will wreak environmental havoc.

Meanwhile, true environmentalist values, uncorrupted, remain of vital importance to humanity. It is necessary to expose how special interests have hijacked the environmentalist movement. But it is equally necessary to articulate principles that may inform a new environmentalism focused on authentic threats and propose ways to counter these threats without compromising individual freedom and prosperity. To that end, here are some ideas.

Principles of New Environmentalism

1 – Questioning the “climate emergency” does not mean someone is not an environmentalist.

2 – Public investments and public policies designed to combat the alleged climate emergency must still pass a cost/benefit analysis that does not take into account “climate impact.”

3 – Over-regulation is a primary cause of unaffordability, but deregulation cannot be selectively targeted to favor, for example, “renewables” or “affordable housing.” A level, deregulated playing field must be created for all investments, including energy, water, and housing.

4 – The priorities of environmentalists must return to addressing genuine environmental threats, for example:
– The steady and significant decline in global insect mass.
– Overfishing the oceans.
– Poaching of endangered species.
– Aquatic dead zones.
– Deforestation and wildlife depletion in nations denied access to conventional energy and commercial agriculture because of the “climate emergency.”
– Actual air and water pollution, mostly in developing nations.
– Biofuel plantations destroying hundreds of thousands of square miles of rainforest.
– Massive oceanic garbage patches.
– The worsening human population crash and environmental factors that may be contributing to worldwide loss of fertility.

5 – Mitigating even genuine environmental challenges must avoid extremes. Advances in genomics can now identify subspecies as unique even if they are otherwise indistinguishable apart from minute genetic differences. Similarly, we now can measure toxins in parts-per-trillion quantities. But now that science’s ability to identify subspecies and measure toxins greatly exceeds our economic capacity to mitigate, a balance must be struck.

6 – “Smart Growth” is not smart. It is a heavily subsidized and highly inefficient way to create housing that most people don’t prefer. The alternative to Smart Growth might be called “New Suburbanism,” an unsubsidized, family-friendly approach that recognizes consumer preferences and, contrary to agenda-driven misinformation, does not consume excessive land.

7 – In a reasonably regulated, competitive commercial environment, private industry can operate far more efficiently than government. Private investment in, for example, energy production, water infrastructure, mineral extraction, and forestry will create jobs, generate tax revenue, and lower the cost of living.

8 – A corollary to the principle of private investment being more efficient is the unavoidable necessity for public utilities. You can’t change the route of a pipeline or railroad for every property owner who will not consent to an easement. But public utilities should not be guaranteed revenue on a cost-plus model, and their profits should not be “decoupled” from their productivity.

9 – For everyone on earth to use half as much energy as Americans do per capita, global energy production must double. In 2023, wind, solar, and geothermal energy only accounted for 2.5 percent of global energy production. Scaling these “renewable” sources of energy while they remain technologically immature is not sustainable. We need to continue to develop conventional energy while continuing to aggressively research new energy technologies. Access to energy is a prerequisite to prosperity and wealth, which in turn is a prerequisite for nations to have the wherewithal to address and solve genuine environmental challenges.

10 – Around the world, the challenge to achieve abundance is governed more by politics and culture than by limited resources. The scarcity agenda inherent in “climate” policy guarantees societal instability and inadequate resources to eliminate genuine pollution. Abundance is achieved through economic freedom and competitive capitalism, subject to reasonable regulatory restraints. Beware of the “abundance” mantra increasingly being adopted by the left or by climate zealots. Even if they are sincere, their solutions are unworkable.

These are a few of the principles that might help redefine environmentalism for the 21st century and restore its credibility. They offer a new approach that not only rescues the natural environment but also preserves freedom and nurtures worldwide prosperity. Moreover, because they make practical economic sense and are predicated on reality instead of theory and mythology, adhering to these principles would set an example that other nations would enthusiastically emulate.

The next time you hear a politician or pundit blithely discuss the “climate emergency,” as if it is something we all accept as indisputable truth, think about the dubious premises they rely on to make these claims. And think about new approaches that will allow us to more effectively care for our beautiful world, along with everyone living here.

President Herzog: 'Settlements are Israel's defensive wall' - Israel National News

by Israel National News

Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed the Makor Rishon and Ofra community Settlement Conference and praised the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed the Makor Rishon and Ofra community Settlement Conference held in honor of the community's 50th anniversary.

"Every time anew during my many visits across Israel, and certainly in Judea and Samaria, and certainly when I fly over the country in helicopters, I understand even more that the settlement movement is an important, formidable, and prosperous movement. How much the settlements are Israel's defensive wall in every sense of the word," Herzog declared.

Regarding the Ofra community, the President stated: "There is no dispute that Ofra is very much in the center of the settlement story. A vision that came to life and was translated into actions on the ground. During our previous moving visit to Ofra as well, before the war, I felt fully how Ofra is a model of a pioneering spirit, of self-sacrifice, leadership, involvement, creativity, striving for doing good, and Tikun Olam in an Israeli, Jewish, and Zionist sense. Ofra is not alone. Settlement is one of the cornerstones of Zionism and the Jewish story since ancient times. This is true sevenfold when the current challenges, in the realm of settlement too, are very great, and therefore we expect that everyone involved enlist for the security and welfare of the settlements across Israel."

Herzog also mentioned the hostages, stating: "These are the most difficult, challenging, and sensitive times. First of all, I reiterate and call to take another step to bring them all home, until the last of them, as fast as possible. It is a great mitzva and a huge responsibility. I especially call on public figures to act responsibly when they talk about this matter, and to take into account the tremendous pain and worry accompanying the hostages' families, who are going through hell."

Benny Gantz: 'Palestinian state or withdrawals are delusional' - Israel National News

by Israel National News

MK Benny Gantz spoke in Ofra today and declared that Israel needed to maintain control of all the land it has taken since the war broke out.

Benny Gantz in Ofra
Benny Gantz in Ofra                                                                          Liron Moldovan

National Unity leader Benny Gantz stated today that the establishment of a Palestinian state contradicts Israel's security.

Speaking in the Binyamin region town of Ofra, Gantz said: "The State of Israel cannot allow a direct and significant threat to its citizens at any borders. Therefore, we need to maintain security control and keep freedom of action in Gaza, in Judea and Samaria, in southern Lebanon, and along the border with Syria. The implication is clear, and anyone who talks about a Palestinian state or withdrawals is simply delusional."

"In this context, the disengagement was a move with many problems. But the greatest mistake, in my opinion, was the eviction of the northern border of Gaza. We should have stayed there to maintain control over Gaza, and we should have stayed there to inform the world that the 67 lines are not relevant. This has been my position for many years."

"From that perspective, in one of the first cabinet meetings, I was the one who raised the need to take territory in Gaza for two reasons: first to protect our citizens, and to create a perimeter that separates them from Gaza in the Gaza Strip, focusing on the northern part of the strip. And the second, as part of the price that must be exacted from Hamas at least until its regime is changed."

"I will say honestly, at this time, I am in favor of full security control, but I believe that returning civilians to Gaza would be a security mistake and divide the nation at a time when we need unity. Israel needs to make a decision that we will not allow any wide-scale invasion threat to develop on our borders, and we will take proactive steps if such a threat develops," he concluded.

Before that, the President of the State spoke about the importance of Israeli expansion. "Every time again during my many visits all over the country and certainly in Judea and Samaria, or when I fly over the country in helicopters, I am increasingly aware of how settlement is a vital, magnificent, and thriving enterprise, how much settlement is the shield of Israel in every sense of the word."

Israel was not informed in advance about US President Donald Trump's announcement regarding the Houthis, an informed source told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

Trump said on Tuesday that the US will stop bombing the Houthis in Yemen after claiming that the Iran-aligned group agreed to stop interrupting important shipping lanes in the Middle East.

The comments came during an Oval Office meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, when Trump announced that the Houthis have said that they no longer want to fight, but did not elaborate on the message.

"They said please don't bomb us anymore and we're not going to attack your ships," Trump said.

There was no immediate response from the Houthis.

IAF airstrikes across Sanaa on Tuesday

During Tuesday's Israel Air Force airstrikes on Sanaa, the Trump administration provided a support system "so that if something goes wrong, they will assist."

The IDF said on Tuesday afternoon that it had conducted a wide array of air strikes across Yemen on Sanaa International Airport, electric power stations, and a cement factory, to weaken the Houthis.

The Houthis released a statement on Tuesday following the IDF's airstrikes across Sanaa, stating that "the Israeli and American aggression will not go unanswered and will not deter Yemen from continuing its support for Gaza."

U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff said on Monday that there could be “great progress” in advancing the Abraham Accords by next year, referring to the normalization agreements between Israel and its Arab neighbors reached during U.S. President Donald Trump’s first term.

Speaking at an event hosted by Israeli Ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter to mark Israel’s 77th Independence Day, Witkoff was optimistic about several diplomatic initiatives currently in progress.

“There are many efforts underway—humanitarian aid initiatives for Gaza, which we applaud, the expansion of the Abraham Peace Accords, which we think will have some or a lot of announcements very, very shortly, which we hope will yield great progress by next year, and discussions on regional challenges in the Middle East like Syria, Lebanon and of course Iran, and we agree that they shall never get a nuclear weapon,” he said.

The Abraham Accords currently include Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Morocco, all of which agreed to normalize relations with Israel in 2020.

The main reception for Monday’s event was held at the ambassador’s residence, attracting a high-profile gathering of senior U.S. government officials, members of Congress and the Senate, foreign ambassadors, Jewish community leaders, media representatives, heads of leading organizations and senior figures from civilian, security and academic sectors.

The main speakers were Witkoff and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum.

Witkoff opened his remarks by sharing his powerful encounter with an Israeli soldier severely wounded in the Gaza Strip, who also participated in Monday’s event.

“I just met a young man here, his name is Ari Spitz. He gave to the country of Israel both of his legs, his right arm, his thumb, and I just say, I wish you blessings. He’s not a victim. It was really my great honor to meet you tonight,” said Witkoff.

Witkoff congratulated Israel on its 77th Independence Day, though acknowledging that “this year has been challenging, and our celebration is bittersweet,” with 59 hostages still remaining in Hamas captivity.

“I remember being in the hospital in Israel when we got the female IDF soldiers out, and I sang the song ‘Am Israel Chai’ with them and their families. And I thought to myself, this could be the most joyous moment in my life,” he said.

“On behalf of President Trump, I pledge that we will work tirelessly this year so that next year’s Independence Day is not just a wish for happiness but a reality of peace, prosperity, and for Israel, unity,” he continued.

In his concluding remarks, Witkoff delivered a passionate message about Israel’s resilience and the importance of national unity.

“Israel is an extraordinary nation. From its founding, it has faced external threats with creativity, resilience and triumph, and we will always be their strongest ally. Yet Israel’s strength lies in its unity. Over the past 20 months, countless Israelis have sacrificed so much, like Ari Spitz right here. In their honor, I urge the Israeli people to choose unity over division, vision over disagreement and hope over despair. When you do, Israel’s future will shine brighter than ever.”

This is an edited version of an article originally published by Israel Hayom.

Does The European Union Actually Expect Radical Islamists to Reform Themselves? - Nils A. Haug

by Nils A. Haug

Israel's warnings of the PA continuing to seize Israel's land by phases -- as planned by the PLO 10-Point Program of 1974 and advanced by former PA Prime Minister Salman Fayyad's plan -- to "create facts on the ground" with illegal buildings -- are largely ignored by the West. So far, the PA, with the funding from the EU, has built more than 97,581 illegal structures on Israeli land that is still to be negotiated.

  • The European Union's decision to grant the Palestinian Authority (PA) a sum of $2 billion to assist them to "reform themselves" can only be the result of willful blindness, cognitive dissonance and what by now can only be ascribed to a proud European tradition of Jew-hate.

So far, the PA, with the funding from the EU, has built more than 97,581 illegal structures on Israeli land that is still to be negotiated.

  • The Palestinian Authority also full-throatedly incites terrorism in its education system and bountifully funds terrorist acts. The total so far disbursed as remuneration for the PA's "Pay-for-Slay" program and acts of terrorism reportedly exceeds $1 billion. This transaction has been in place for decades.

  • The EU's naiveté (to be kind) is already bringing disaster upon many of its member nations by allowing unlimited Muslim migration, presumably in an unconditional desire for every vote imaginable.

  • Israelis are understandably against an untenable two-state solution -- which they accurately see as no solution at all.

The European Union's decision to grant the Palestinian Authority (PA) a sum of $2 billion to assist them to "reform themselves" can only be the result of willful blindness, cognitive dissonance and what by now can only be ascribed to a proud European tradition of Jew-hate. The European Union's decision to grant the Palestinian Authority (PA) a sum of $2 billion to assist them to "reform themselves" can only be the result of willful blindness, cognitive dissonance and what by now can only be ascribed to a proud European tradition of Jew-hate.

The PA, despite claiming to be secular, is saturated with an Islamist mentality in support of jihadists. The PA plays the West by displaying a veneer of reasonableness, victimhood and the bogus claim that it would, in an ever-extending future, accept some kind of peace with the Jews. This fiction is supposedly backed by an equally bogus claim that it would be willing -- under conditions which would always be suicidal for the Jews to accept -- to establish a two-state solution in Israel's ancestral homeland.

This romantic fantasy persists in the face of the Palestinian Authority's elaborate, extremely concrete programs with the European Union to appropriate land which, according to the 1993 and 1995 Oslo Accords, must still be negotiated, as well as a continuing jobs program that the PA offers, similar to Murder, Inc. The PA's "Pay for Slay" program lavishly rewards Palestinians who murder Israelis. The more Israelis they murder, the greater the sum. A 2024 report notes that the PA disburses more than $16 million each month to the Palestinian murderers and their families.

The Palestinian Authority, located in the biblical Jewish heartland of Judea and Samaria, is a hugely corrupt, authoritarian, dictatorial, Islamist political entity whose sole agenda consists of ruling the entire State of Israel under Sharia law while ridding the land of its Jewish population.

Not surprisingly, the PA has yet to condemn Hamas's slaughter of 1,200 Israelis on October 7, 2023 and the kidnapping of 251 people - 59 of whom are still held hostage in Gaza. Fewer than 24 of them are thought still to be alive.

When PA President Mahmoud Abbas, now enjoying the 20th year of his four-year term, calls Hamas "sons of dogs," this does not mean that Hamas and the PA disagree on obliterating Israel. It only means the PA has not forgotten that Hamas forcibly expelled the PA from Gaza -- including by throwing at least one member of the PA to his death from the 15th floor -- after Hamas was elected in 2006.

Abbas, notwithstanding his corrupt, despotic rule for two decades, is warmly received by Western leaders as he presents them with plans whereby the Palestinian Authority would once again govern Gaza after a make-believe peace is supposedly secured between Israel and Hamas.

According to the Times of Israel:

"'The Palestinian government, under President Abbas's directives, has completed all preparations to assume full responsibility in Gaza,' including the return of the displaced, providing basic services, crossings management, and reconstruction of the war-torn territory, according to a statement from the PA president's office."

In 2005, Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, unconditionally gave the Gaza Strip to the PA, to be used as an independent home for Palestinians, and ruled by the PA. All Jews were physically forced out of their homes there by the Israel Defense Forces. Several American Jews had even bought greenhouses in the Gaza Strip from the expelled Jews, and gave them to the Palestinians as running start to transforming Gaza into a "Singapore on the Mediterranean." Within days of the transfer, all the greenhouses were looted and destroyed. It was two years later that Hamas vehemently escorted the PA out of Gaza.

To this day, the Palestinian Authority, with its double-standards and corrosive, corrupt governance, is deeply unpopular with Palestinians, and the reason so many had voted for Hamas in the first place. Israel maintains a superficial co-operation with the PA, mainly for matters of security. According to the EU, however, why not try the Gaza experiment all over again? Perhaps this time -- with more money -- it will work?

Oh absolutely! With our funds, the Palestinian Authority will surely reform itself and live peacefully and happily with all its neighbors, the way we do in Europe! Such is the inebriated view of the EU.

The Palestinian Authority also full-throatedly incites terrorism in its education system and bountifully funds terrorist acts. The total so far disbursed as remuneration for the PA's "Pay-for-Slay" program and acts of terrorism reportedly exceeds $1 billion. This transaction has been in place for decades.

Abbas is now calling for unity with Hamas, as "Hamas is part of the Palestinian people," and "Our arms and hearts are open" to Hamas. The PA would doubtless have liked to return to former PA President Yasser Arafat's Gaza Strip house, which Hamas looted in 2005, before IDF troops razed it in 2024.

In the view of the EU, the Palestinian Authority will reform itself even as it blames Israel for the horrific events of October 7, 2023, claiming Hama's massacre was an action in the "context of the defense war our people are waging," due to Israel's "aggression on all the Palestinian lands."

The jihadist ideology of Jew-hatred, apparently issuing from the Qur'an and the Hadith, and amplified by Adolf Hitler's collaborator Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem during much of the British Mandate for Palestine, is now enshrined in the PA-PLO charter. Fatah's Central Committee Secretary General Jibril Rajoub asserts that "Hamas is part of our political and social fabric and of our struggle, and their involvement is important." With Hamas's onslaught against civilians, many PA ministers "celebrated what happened."

According to Nan Jacques Zilberdik, a senior analyst at Palestinian Media Watch:

"[T]he Palestinian Authority (PA)'s Fatah leaders are confident that the PA and Fatah will unite with the Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror organizations and rule Gaza together.
Some PA and Fatah leaders have been adamant about joining forces with the terror organizations."

The EU's naiveté (to be kind) is already bringing disaster upon many of its member nations by allowing unlimited Muslim migration, presumably in an unconditional desire for every vote imaginable. This unvetted immigration brings with it the rise of violent political Islam combined with unmitigated Jew-hatred, and allows it to thrive in its midst. Europe's leaders, supposedly tasked with protecting Europe's Judeo-Christian culture, are selling out their nations to radical Islam for a mess of pottage.

In all this, no one seriously considers the views of Israel and its people concerning their neighbors and the two million Arab-Muslim Israeli citizens who live and work among them.

Israelis are understandably against an untenable two-state solution -- which they accurately see as no solution at all. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu replied to the EU's plans calling for an independent Palestinian state, and that Islamists should again rule Gaza, by saying:

"There was a Palestinian state. It was called Gaza. Look what we received. The biggest massacre since the Holocaust. I will not make any agreement that endangers the State of Israel. I will not do it."

In a mid-April telephone call, Abbas and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed "the possibility of the Palestinian Authority assuming 'full responsibility' in Gaza, including security duties, with the goal of 'international legitimacy, one system, one law, and one legitimate source of arms.'"

According to a report in the Jerusalem Post last month:

"Macron said on Wednesday France could recognize a Palestinian state in June, adding that in turn some countries in the Middle East could recognize the state of Israel.

"'We need to move towards recognition (of a Palestinian state). And so over the next few months, we will. I'm not doing it to please anyone. I'll do it because at some point it will be right,' he said during an interview on France 5 television."

Macron might possibly be the stimulating force behind the EU's intent to lavish a non-reforming PA with billions of euros.

A Biblical quotation describes the EU's futile endeavor to reform a dedicated Islamist organization such as the PA: "Can a leopard change its spots?" The question concludes with, "Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil."

Jews and Israelis know this well, but the EU and others apparently do not or, more to the point, apparently do not care: So what, it is only a few Jews we are talking about.

7 Iranians Arrested in UK Over Terror Plot “Hours Away” - Daniel Greenfield

by Daniel Greenfield

"A suspected Iranian terror attack was hours away from being launched on British soil"

Shiite Muslim terrorists, unlike Sunni Muslim terrorists, tend to operate around the unified command and control hub of Iran. They’ve spent more time laying the groundwork for future attacks, recruiting operatives and engaging in criminal operations meant to move money around including dealing drugs.

What does it mean that the network is being operationalized for terrorist attacks?

A suspected Iranian terror attack was hours away from being launched on British soil, The Telegraph understands.

Five men, including four Iranian nationals, were arrested at locations across England on Saturday in what the Home Secretary described as one of the biggest counter-terror operations in recent years.

Counter-terror police arrested a further three Iranian men in London as part of a separate operation, fearing they would leave the UK or destroy critical evidence against them after the other raids.

Iran has recruited operatives for assassinations in the U.S. targeting former Trump administration officials and Salman Rushdie, a longstanding target, but don’t expect anyone in the British government to talk about it.

On Sunday night, there were renewed calls for Labour to proscribe Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Despite having pledged in opposition to ban the organisation, Labour have yet to do so.

The Telegraph understands that Foreign Office officials have previously opposed the move because it would prevent the UK from maintaining its backchannel to Iran, which is also used by the United States.

The IRGC is Iran’s terror hub, but the sort of political interests who favor talking to Iran over national security refuse to do it.

America First Legal sues Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts - Misty Severi

by Misty Severi

The lawsuit was also lodged against Robert Conrad, who serves as the director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, and accuses the men of operating beyond their scope of resolving cases or controversies.

The President Donald Trump-aligned legal group America First Legal Foundation on Monday sued Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts, accusing him of acting beyond his scope as head of the U.S. Judicial Conference.

The lawsuit was also lodged against Robert Conrad, who serves as the director of the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, according to Fox News.

The legal action accuses the men of operating beyond their scope of resolving cases or controversies, citing their cooperation with Congress in helping them investigate Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, and a willingness to create or adopt a code of ethics for the court.

"Under our constitutional tradition, accommodations with Congress are the province of the executive branch," the foundation said. "The Judicial Conference and the Administrative Office are therefore executive agencies," which would be overseen by the president and not the courts.

U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden will preside over the case.

Canadian leader now courts Trump but once sought to punish Americans for ‘sedition’ over protests - John Solomon

by John Solomon

Mark Carney to meet with Trump as energy-rich Alberta province ramps up talk of secession

On the course to his improbable recent election victory, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney fashioned himself as the “Canada-first” politician ready to stand up to America and fight for middle-class jobs and a more affordable future. And he has already signaled he’ll bring that persona to his first meeting with President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

But for most of his career as a banker and bureaucrat, Carney was an unabashed liberal who led the “net zero” campaign to phase out oil, gas and coal, championed globalism at the United Nations and even derided his own country’s truckers protesting vaccine mandates as anarchists who should be prosecuted because they “terrorized” Canadians.

“This is sedition,” Carney wrote in a February 2022 newspaper OpEd about the Freedom Convoy trucker protests in Ottawa. “That’s a word I never thought I’d use in Canada. It means ‘incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority.’

“They are not patriots. This is not about restoring freedom but beginning anarchy,” he added, alleging that the horn-honking truckers were “making residents’ lives hell, will bankrupt our businesses, and if left unchecked, would help achieve the convoy’s goal of undermining our democracy and the rule of law.”

But Carney went even further, suggesting that Americans who donated to support the truckers and their convoy should face legal consequences.

“Anyone sending money to the convoy should be in no doubt: You are funding sedition,” he wrote. “Foreign funders of an insurrection interfered in our domestic affairs from the start. Canadian authorities should take every step within the law to identify and thoroughly punish them.”

A globalist, Carney held three citizenships until a couple months ago when he began the process of renouncing his Irish and U.K. citizenship, saying that as prime minister, "I should only hold one citizenship."

As Carney descends on Washington Tuesday for his first official visit after winning the Canadian election, GOP lawmakers and administration officials are acutely aware of his far-left-leaning past and hoping to use it to their advantage.

“This is a far-left radical individual, very much what you see with people unhinged protesting in all of our districts today. He is not what he seems,” Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, an Army doctor turned GOP lawmaker, told the Just the News No Noise television show Monday night.

“You know, democracy is alive and well in the United States, as is free speech, as is freedom of association. But I’m very concerned about Canada,” she added. “So I think tomorrow's meeting is going to be extremely interesting.”

Carney has suggested he could be more moderate than Trudeau on climate policy but signaled over the weekend he will remain defiant with Trump, resisting — as he did throughout the election — any suggestion Canada should be subservient to the United States or become one of its states.

“Our old relationship, based on steadily increasing integration, is over,” he said of the United States during a Friday news conference.

White House officials and Trump advisers tell Just the News that the U.S. president is acutely aware of Carney’s hard-left positions and believes they are fodder to empower him to drive a better trade deal for Americans than if a conservative prime minister had been elected last month.

“The president believes there is a better deal to be had, that he can bring Carney to his knees as a liberal ungrateful for the United States’ contributions to Canada. He also knows Canada cannot withstand a trade war for any period of time,” a top adviser to Trump told Just the News.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick took a hard line Monday, suggesting not to expect much out of the first Trump-Carney meeting while attacking Carney for being a net-zero globalist.

“They have their socialist regime, and it’s basically feeding off of America, I mean, the president calls it out all the time,” Lutnick told Fox News.

Trump said nearly as much in a weekend interview where he vowed to raise with Carney having Canada become the 51st U.S. state.

“I’ll always talk about that,” Trump told NBC. “You know why? We subsidize Canada to the tune of $200 billion a year. We don’t need their cars. In fact, we don’t want their cars. We don’t need their energy. We don’t even want their energy. We have more than they do.”

Political pundits say Trump’s campaign to make Canada the 51st state likely assisted Carney to victory, as the liberal leader closed a 20-point-plus gap in the polls to win on his nationalist message even after voters had sickened of prior liberal leader Justin Trudeau’s policies.

But there are major weaknesses Carney faces at home. He was unable to win an outright majority and will govern with a minority government that relies on many of the same players as Trudeau’s unpopular administration.

And talk of secession from Canada’s energy-rich Alberta further complicates Carney’s hand. The conservative premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith, made a stunning formal statement Monday about the future of her province in which she acknowledged the secession movement was mainstream and announced plans to push tough negotiations with Carney.

“We are well aware that there is large and growing number of Albertans that have lost hope in Alberta having a free and prosperous future as a part of Canada,” Smith said. “Many of these Albertans are organizing petitions to trigger a citizen-initiated referendum, as I mentioned earlier. The vast majority of these individuals are not fringe voices to be marginalized or vilified — they are loyal Albertans.

“They are quite literally our friends and neighbors who have just had enough of having their livelihoods and prosperity attacked by a hostile federal government. They are frustrated — and they have every reason to be,” she added.

Smith said she does not personally advocate for secession but that her administration would honor a ballot initiative to separate from Canada if citizens meet the threshold because the federal government under liberals “anti-energy, anti-agriculture and anti-resource development policies have scared away global investment to the tune of over a half a trillion dollars.”

“To be clear from the outset, our government will not be putting a vote on separation from Canada on the referendum ballot; however, if there is a successful citizen-led referendum petition that is able to gather the requisite number of signatures requesting such a question to be put to a referendum, our government will respect the democratic process and include that question on the 2026 provincial referendum ballot as well,” she said.

While Alberta and Ottawa battle over differences, Canada’s energy industry has begun to make aggressive plans to strike out on its own for deals with America, including a new gas pipeline, according to Jamie Tronnes, executive director of the Center for North American Prosperity and Security, an influential free-market think tank for Canadian business.

“I think that Canadians really need to get the natural gas to market. And if Carney cannot get it together to build a gas pipeline or energy corridor in Canada, why wouldn't we ship it to the United States?” she told the Just the News, No Noise TV show Monday. “It's our biggest economy. It's our biggest market.”

Tronnes said Canadian companies could also open up more U.S. subsidiaries to get around Trump tariffs and build U.S. business around Carney’s administration.

She said Tuesday’s meeting at the White House will be the most watched TV event in Canada since the U.S.-Canada hockey championship game a few months back.

“I don't think Canadians have watched anything so intently since the playoff game,” she said. “You know, it's a real nail-biter, and people are really tuning in tomorrow to see how this goes. But that being said, I think the energy sector has some very legitimate concerns, particularly when it comes to the promises that Mark Carney has made, and, you know, the number of pipelines that the Liberals have canceled just over the last 10 years, the “lost liberal decade” as many refer to it.”

These comments come as Israel issued on Monday an ultimatum to the terror group following a decision made by the security cabinet.

Hamas is not interested in engaging in ceasefire talks with Israel as long as the war in Gaza continues, senior Hamas official Basem Naim told AFP on Tuesday.

"There is no sense in engaging in talks or considering new ceasefire proposals as long as the hunger war and extermination war continue in the Gaza Strip," Naim was cited as saying.

Later on Tuesday, a spokesperson for Qatar's Foreign Ministry said mediation efforts were ongoing.

This comes as Israel issued on Monday an ultimatum to the terror group following a decision made by the security cabinet on Sunday night.

The ultimatum stated that if Hamas does not agree to Israel’s proposed outline, including the release of 10 hostages in exchange for a 45-day ceasefire, the military operation in Gaza will be significantly expanded.

What the plan includes

A senior political source said after the Sunday cabinet meeting that “The plan includes... seizing and holding territory in Gaza, moving the Gazan population southward for their protection, preventing Hamas from distributing humanitarian aid, and launching powerful strikes against Hamas – all actions that will help bring about its defeat.”

During the meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the plan is effective because it can achieve both primary objectives: defeating Hamas and returning the hostages.

“It differs from previous plans by shifting from targeted raids to seizing territory and maintaining control over it,” he added.

This is a developing story.
