How Should We Respond to European Recognition of a Palestinian State? - Michael Brown

by Michael Brown

A careful and disturbing look at Israel’s "Partner for Peace".

[Order David Horowitz’s new book, America Betrayed, HERE.]

On May 22, the nations of Norway, Spain, and Ireland announced their intentions to recognize a Palestinian state. As reported in the Epoch Times, the announcement prompted “Israel to immediately recall its ambassadors to the three nations. How should we respond?

As described by the leaders of these three countries, they are calling for, “Two states, living side by side, in peace and security” (Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store), “with mutual security guarantees” (Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sรกnchez), and with “Ireland’s dream” being “that the Israeli and Palestinian children of May 28th 2024 will grow up to be neighbors at peace” (Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris).

Israel’s response was harsh and swift, referencing “the Irish-Norwegian folly,” in the words of Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz.

Katz claimed in a post on X that the announcement undermined Israeli sovereignty and endangered its security, stating, “Today’s decision sends a message to the Palestinians and the world: Terrorism pays. After the Hamas terror organization carried out the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, after committing heinous sexual crimes witnessed by the world, these countries chose to reward Hamas and Iran by recognizing a Palestinian state.

“This distorted step by these countries is an injustice to the memory of the victims of 7/10, a blow to efforts to return the 128 hostages, and a boost to Hamas and Iran’s jihadists, which undermines the chance for peace and questions Israel’s right to self-defense.”

Then, speaking directly to Ireland, he posted, “Ireland, if your goal was to reward terrorism by declaring support for a Palestinian state, you’ve achieved it.

“@SimonHarrisTD, Hamas thanks you for your service.”

Accompanying the post was a 19-second video depicting some of the horrors of the October 7 massacre with the caption, “Hamas: THANKS IRELAND.”

Why this extreme reaction from Israeli leadership? After all, the Irish government called for “the unconditional release of hostages held by Hamas and ‘full, safe, and unhindered’ humanitarian access to Gaza.” Prime Minister Sรกnchez said that recognition of the Palestinian state was a  necessary step to “empower the Palestinian National Authority against Hamas, a terrorist group that must disappear.”

In addition, don’t most Israelis share the dream of living side by side in peace and prosperity with their Arab neighbors?

What, then, was so wrong with this formal recognition of a Palestinian state?

First, these nations have no authority whatsoever, legally or morally, to tell Israel what to do with the disputed territories, territories that were acquired in the midst of defensive wars. Who appointed these three countries the arbiters of the Middle East?

Second, as the old saying goes, the devil is in the details, in this case, the details of what, exactly, constitutes a Palestinian state. Palestinian leadership in Judea and Samaria (aka the West Bank) has made it clear that no Jews could live in a Palestinian state (in contrast with Israel being home to more than two million Palestinian Arabs).

As noted by Eric Mandel in The Forward in 2018, with reference to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s speech to the United Nations Security Council, Abbas put forth a serious proposal for a two-state solution “if your goal is a Palestinian state ethnically cleansed of every Jew.”

There are now reportedly more than 500,000 Israeli Jews living in the West Bank, all of whom would have to go based on this pollyannaish vision. To repeat: who gave Norway, Spain, and Ireland the right to expel half a million people from their homes?

Third, the announcement is completely unrealistic, envisioning a peaceful way to oust Hamas from power as well as envisioning Abbas and the PA as serious peace partners for Israel.

As Mandel noted in 2018, “In 2014, he told the Arab League, ‘We will never recognize the Jewishness of the state of Israel.’ In 2016 in Sudan, he reiterated that he would ‘recognize the State of Israel, and that is it. However, a Jewish state is not my affair. I will not recognize it at all and I will not accept it.’ In December, his chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said Palestinians need to strive to reclaim ‘historic Palestine, from the river to the sea.’And this January, clearing up any ambiguity, Abbas asserted from the safety of his West Bank compound that the state of Israel is a colonial project that has nothing to do with Judaism,’ and rejected any Jewish ties to the land.

“As for accepting Israel’s legitimacy and right to a state, Abbas asserts that Israel’s occupation started in 1948, not 1967. This means that he believes Israel proper to be occupied, not just the West Bank and Gaza.”

This is Israel’s wonderful peace partner?

And to the extent that Abbas and other Palestinian leaders call for a one-state solution, they do so with the caveat that it must include the “right to return” for multiplied millions of descendants of Palestinian refugees, thereby overwhelming the demographics and effectively ending the idea of a Jewish state.

As for the popularity of Hamas, it surged in the West Bank after October 7.

As the Irish Times (!) reported regarding a major poll conducted last December, “In the survey, 72 percent of respondents backed the Hamas-led attack of October 7th in which 1,200 people were killed, according to Israel, and some 240 taken hostage. Support for the attack was higher among Palestinians in the West Bank, at 82 percent, than in Gaza (57 percent).”

Additionally, “About 44 percent of West Bank residents support Hamas, the survey found, an increase from 12 percent in September, while 42 percent of Gazans (up from 38 percent) expressed support for the militant group, which runs Gaza. Some 60 percent in Gaza expressed support for the armed struggle against Israel, as did 70 percent in the West Bank, where 490 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers since the Gaza war began.”

Clear enough?

Fourth, the announcement undermines Israel’s efforts to eliminate Hamas from power, instead encouraging the violent Palestinian resistance with the idea that, with perseverance, they will achieve their goals, as support for Israel’s offensive wanes.

By all means, let us continue to work towards and dream about the peaceful and prosperous coexistence of the Israeli and Palestinian peoples.

But announcements like this are as unhelpful as they are untimely. Israel had good reason to react so sharply.

IDF in control of Philadelphi Corridor, 20 tunnels found - Joshua Marks

Israeli troops have taken “operational control” of the Philadelphi Corridor, the 8.7-mile-long border area between Gaza and Egypt, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said on Wednesday evening.

Israeli forces have so far uncovered 20 tunnels underneath it, he added.

“We are investigating these tunnels and neutralizing them,” said Hagari.

During the operation, led by the IDF’s 162nd Division, forces also found dozens of ready-to-fire rocket launchers and launch pits from which Hamas fired rockets and mortars shells into Israel.

“Hamas exploited the Philadelphi Corridor, using it to build this infrastructure just dozens of meters from the border with Egypt so that we would not strike them,” said Hagari.

“This infrastructure was located between 10 and 40 meters from the border, specifically so that Israel would not strike near the fence with Egypt. I remind you that in recent weeks, Hamas has fired about 70 rockets and mortars from the Rafah area.”

Hagari described the Philadelphi Corridor as Hamas’s “lifeline,” through which the terror group smuggled weapons and supplies into the Gaza Strip.

The IDF spokesperson also revealed that in recent weeks, troops had uncovered a tunnel under eastern Rafah that was 1.5 kilometers in length (nearly one mile).

“The entrance shaft to the infrastructure was located about 100 meters from the Rafah Crossing [with Egypt],” said Hagari. “The route branched into several sub-routes and was used by Hamas terrorists for movement, transferring weapons and initiating terrorist attacks. Inside the route, we found large quantities of weapons, including anti-tank missiles, AK-47s, explosives and grenades.”

The tunnel had been destroyed by the 162nd Division’s 401st Armored Brigade, he added.

Israeli forces moved into eastern Rafah on May 6, taking operational control of the Rafah Crossing and other key areas, including the section of the Salah al-Din Road that runs through the city. In the weeks since then, the operation has expanded into other areas of the last Hamas stronghold.

Destroying the four Hamas battalions entrenched there is essential to winning the war, Jerusalem has insisted, to prevent Hamas from regrouping and threatening Israel again.

Hagari also emphasized the importance of the war goal of freeing the 125 hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza.

”Hamas is in Rafah. Hamas has been holding our hostages in Rafah, which is why our forces are operating in Rafah. Hamas is holding our hostages in living hell across our border in Gaza, including in Rafah. We will not stop fighting for their freedom,” he said.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi toured the Rafah area on Wednesday, holding a situational assessment with the head of IDF Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman, the commander of the 162nd Division, Brig. Gen. Itzik Cohen, and other commanders.

During the briefing, Hagari said that Halevi was “impressed by the way [the soldiers] fight with determination and professionalism. He talked with them, referred to the numerous operational achievements that are leading to dismantling Hamas, and emphasized creating the conditions for the return of the hostages.”

Three terrorists who fired at Israeli troops in the Rafah area were killed in an Air Force strike over the past 24 hours, the IDF updated on Thursday. Troops also located terrorist infrastructure, a large number of weapons, including anti-tank missile launch posts, tunnel shafts, a weapons storage facility and explosives.

Israeli forces are also continuing to operate against Hamas elsewhere in the coastal enclave, including in the Jabalia area in the north, where ground troops found weapons, including AK-47s and ammunition. Terrorists who approached and threatened troops were eliminated by tank fire and in another incident, two terror operatives who fired projectiles at soldiers were killed in an airstrike.

In central Gaza, several terrorists were eliminated with tank fire and a weapons storage facility was located.

Furthermore, over the past day, the IAF struck over 50 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip, including military structures and terrorist infrastructure.

Hamas low on long-range rockets

Hamas is down to dozens of long-range rockets that can reach Tel Aviv and the center of Israel, according to IDF estimates.

In addition, the terror group’s overall rocket arsenal at all ranges has been reduced from the thousands at the start of the war to the hundreds.

The IDF has destroyed numerous weapons production facilities, making it harder for Hamas to replenish its supply of rockets. Israeli forces have also located and demolished many rocket launchers in recent months.

In a reminder that Hamas can still target the Jewish state’s major population centers, the terrorist group on Sunday fired an eight-rocket barrage at Tel Aviv and the central region for the first time in four months, rattling millions of residents used to a period of quiet.

The rocket fire reached as far north as the Sharon region, sending residents in the city of Kfar Saba running for shelter for the first time since the war started on Oct. 7.

IDF ‘exemplifies tactical, operational excellence’ in Gaza - Yaakov Lappin

by Yaakov Lappin

According to a report by former senior U.S. commanders, Israel's military operation in Gaza has been "effective and legal," but better communication is needed to counteract negative public perceptions.

According to a newly published report authored by U.S. military legal experts and former commanders, the Israel Defense Forces has conducted its war against Hamas in Gaza “effectively and legally.”

The authors of the report, published on Thursday by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA), include Gen. (ret.) David Rodriguez, former head of U.S. Africa Command; Adm. (ret.) Michael Rogers, former commander of the U.S. Navy; and Gen. (ret.) Charles Wald, former deputy commander of U.S. European Command.

The report’s findings are based on primary-source research and extensive discussions with senior Israeli officials during a fact-finding visit to the country.

“Israel has faced a lot of criticism for its conduct of the war in Gaza and many of the questions being raised are ones of military strategy, operations, tactics and law,” said Rodriguez.

“I felt it was very important for U.S. policymakers and the American public, as they make up their minds about what is happening in Gaza, to hear the perspective of American military leaders who had fought in similar conflicts, faced similar adversaries, and grappled with some of the same questions of how to fight them,” he continued.

Israel’s efforts to eliminate the Hamas threat are grounded in its right and responsibility to restore security for its citizens, the report states.

“The barbaric October 7 attack was just one part of the multi-front threat that Israel faces from Iran and its proxies. In defending itself against this threat, Israel is justified in seeking to eliminate Hamas’s ability to ever attack it again,” said Wald. “And the IDF has pursued that mission effectively and legally against an adversary that is doing everything it possibly can—including cynically putting its own civilians in the line of fire—to discredit and delegitimize Israel.”

Despite accusations to the contrary, the Israeli military has succeeded in navigating the complex environment while adhering to the Laws of Armed Conflict (LOAC), the authors state. Hamas, by contrast, has repeatedly violated the LOAC by using civilians and civilian infrastructure as shields, according to the authors.

Hamas is described in the report as a “terror army” with the structure, training, and advanced weaponry of a conventional force. Its tactics include not wearing uniforms, attacking civilians and using civilian infrastructure for military purposes.

Hamas, the authors write, “Has intentionally and systemically” violating the laws of war “by dragging civilians into the fight, using them to shield their personnel and assets in an attempt to compel the IDF to inflict civilian casualties so as to trigger opposition to Israel by the United States, European countries, the United Nations, and international courts as well as in public opinion.”

The IDF, by contrast, goes out of its way to minimize civilian casualties.

“We … observed that the IDF took steps to mitigate the risk of civilian casualties in the conduct of hostilities and, on many occasions, we believe, prioritized mitigating civilian risk over anticipated tactical advantage or striking legitimate military targets,” the report states.

It also notes the IDF’s ability to integrate air power, indirect fire (artillery) and ground forces in maneuvers both above and below ground, and the level of support the Israeli Air Force is able to provide for ground units, both in terms of direct support and via intelligence-gathering.

“The IDF’s performance on Gaza’s complicated battlefield demonstrates operational and tactical excellence,” the authors state.

“The U.S. military would benefit from studying how the IDF fought effectively in this highly complex, multi-domain environment,” they add.

Based on available information, approximately 90% of the strikes carried out by the IDF in Gaza, even those carried out by drones, were pre planned, “although planning may have occurred only 10 minutes before the operation,” the authors state.

Only about 10% were dynamic, real-time strikes, most of which were launched by remotely-piloted drones carrying small, precision-guided munitions, they add.

“The IDF was able to assign the most appropriate available capability to deal with a threat and direct fire accurately,” the authors conclude.

The report notes that since Oct. 7, Israel has faced threats not only from
Hamas but also from other Iranian-backed terror armies, as well as from Iran itself.

Employing Iranian doctrine, Hamas transformed Gaza into a fortified battleground and terror base, integrating civilian infrastructure into its military-terrorist assets to oppose Israeli advances and increase civilian casualties, said the former American military officials.

While the Israeli military has made “some improvements” compared to past conflicts in this regard, it faces “challenges communicating with international audiences, combatting Hamas disinformation, and conveying the gravity of the enemy threat,” the report states.

Better strategic communication is needed to convey the IDF’s objectives and actions clearly, as well as the severity of threat posed by a resurgent Hamas, the authors argue.

The report calls on the Israeli government to formulate a clearer day-after strategy for Gaza, arguing that “Israel could advance its strategic objectives more and help counteract negative public perceptions that Israel’s enemies only seek to amplify by going beyond what is legally mandated and taking responsibility for delivering aid and administering Gaza in the interregnum between Hamas and whatever comes next.”

Hamas Has Stolen $500 Million From Gaza Aid Since October 7 - Hugh Fitzgerald

by Hugh Fitzgerald

But can you guess who the world blames for Gaza famine?

[Order David Horowitz’s new book, America Betrayed, HERE.]

Hamas has been stealing for its own members at least half of the aid sent to Gaza since October 7. This is not surprising. Hamas has been stealing aid money meant for the people of Gaza ever since it took control of the Strip in 2007. Just three Hamas leaders, Khaled Meshaal, Mousa abu Marzouk, and Ismail Haniyeh, have among themselves managed to steal the colossal sum of $11 billion in aid. And while Hamas has been complaining about Israel preventing aid from reaching the Strip, it is actually Hamas that has been harming Gazans, by diverting half of the billion dollars sent by donors to Gaza since October 7. More on this can be found here: “Hamas reaped hundreds of millions off Gaza aid since Oct. 7,” JNS, May 20, 2024:

The Hamas terrorist organization has profited by at least $500 million of the humanitarian aid coming into the Gaza Strip since the start of the war on Oct. 7, according to a report that aired on Israel’s Channel 12 last week.

Veteran analyst Ehud Yaari, a fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, told the broadcaster on Thursday that, according to a calculation he made with “a friend—I don’t know if I’m allowed to mention his name,” Hamas earned “no less” than half a billion dollars from the aid….

The Tzav 9 (“Order 9”) movement, which has led protests against Jerusalem’s decision to allow humanitarian aid to enter the Strip freely, said that while “the hostages are groaning in captivity, IDF soldiers are risking their lives and the children of the [Gaza] Envelope [Israelis living near the border with Gaza] do not sleep at night,” the terror group “continues to exist and enjoy financial prosperity.”…

The volume of aid provided to the hostile territory has more than doubled since the start of the war, according to data provided by the government to Israel’s Supreme Court in response to a petition by left-wing groups.

According to the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), Hamas terrorists divert at least 60% of the goods entering Gaza for their own purposes….

The Israelis keep explaining to the world that there is no famine in Gaza in this sense: enough food aid is getting through to the Strip to supply the needs of all of its inhabitants, if it is distributed fairly. But it is not. There is a maldistribution of the aid that enters, where Hamas operatives immediately seize about 60% of the humanitarian aid — food, medicines, personal hygiene items — for themselves, their extended families, and their clans. What they do not use they sell, at inflated prices, to the Gazans. Now the Israelis have calculated the enormous size of that diversion of aid to Hamas — at least $500 million worth of aid. But no one protests, no one cares that Hamas does this to the people in Gaza. There is no way to blame the Jews for this grand theft, so it is of no interest.

Europe embraces border walls in what critics say is a stark contrast to Biden's policies - Madeleine Hubbard

by Madeleine Hubbard

This is not the first time Eastern Europe's NATO members have squared off with Belarus or Russia over immigrants.

NATO nations are bolstering their borders, with Poland taking particularly robust measures, in response to threats posed by Russia and Belarus, which critics of the Biden administration say is markedly different from the current security at the U.S. border.

Poland, Ukraine, Finland, Norway and the Baltic States agreed to create a "drone wall" last week, but Poland stepped up support for its border officials after a Polish Army soldier was stabbed by a person attempting to enter from Belarus on Tuesday.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Wednesday visited the Polish border with Belarus and later on X, he pledged to defend his country's "border with all available means" and said that the army, Border Guard and police could count on his "full support."

The Polish soldier was stabbed after about 50 foreigners attacked Polish patrols by throwing "branches, tree limbs and stones," according to the Polish Border Guard Headquarters. The soldier was stabbed when the illegal immigrants attempted to forcefully cross the border.

"Almost every day, Border Guard officers face aggression from migrants trying to cross the Polish-Belarusian border. In recent months, attacks by foreigners on services protecting the Polish-Belarusian border have intensified; four border guards were injured," the headquarters also said.

The stabbing came days after Poland announced plans to invest $2.5 billion in security along its borders with Russia and Belarus, according to Voice of America.

When the drone wall was announced Friday, Latvian Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite said that the region of Europe bordering Russia and Belarus is "facing similar threats," such as the "instrumentalization of migration, cyber attacks, disinformation, sabotage of critical infrastructure and other hybrid threats," which must be countered by joint efforts.

Not the first time

Russia threatened to retaliate against Finland for joining NATO last year, which Finnish officials say Moscow did by allowing hundreds of migrants from countries such as Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan, travel through Russia without documents and arrive at the Finnish border. In response, Finland erected barbed wire and concrete barriers along the border and closed all border crossings with Russia with the exception of a railway crossing for cargo, according to Reuters.

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said "thousands of people in Russia ... are waiting for an opportunity to reach the Finnish border."

During the first quarter of 2024, Poland recorded a 60% increase in foreigners entering the country from Russia compared to the same time period last year, although there has been a 10% decrease in foreigners coming from Belarus, data shows.

The migrant crisis with Belarus began in 2021 after Belarusian authorities diverted a Ryanair plane to arrest passenger Roman Protasevich, an opposition journalist. Shortly thereafter, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko threatened to flood migrants and drugs into Europe if sanctions were imposed on his nation in response to the diversion, The Week reported at the time.

Meanwhile, an investigation by The Telegraph earlier this year revealed that Russia is fueling migration from Africa by using private militias to increase violence and force people to flee the continent to Europe.

Attacks on US Customs officers

Additionally, like border officers in Europe, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers also face threats to their safety, with 212 officers having been assaulted in the first seven months of fiscal year 2024, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data.

Former Trump administration officials are taking notice of the change in European migration policy, as reflected in a brief by Chad Wolf, the former acting deputy director of Homeland Security Deputy, and Robert Law, the former Citizenship and Immigration Services policy chief, published Tuesday by the America First Policy Institute.

"The failed border security policies of the Biden Administration and Brussels are unpopular and are failing Americans and Europeans alike," the brief states.

The EU Parliament adopted a Pact on Migration and Asylum earlier this month, and the authors of the brief state that, like the Biden administration, the pact maintains that migrants have the right to make an asylum claim and prioritizes managing illegal immigrants rather than deterring it in the first place.

The brief recommends using an "America First" approach to illegal immigration and enacting border security laws similar to Hungary to solve the current border crisis.

Our Revolutionary Times - Victor Davis Hanson

by Victor Davis Hanson

The results of all these revolutions will shake up the U.S. for decades to come.

Sometimes unexpected but dramatic events tear off the thin veneer of respectability and convention. What follows is the exposure and repudiation of long-existing but previously covered-up pathologies.

Events like the destruction of the southern border over the last three years, the October 7 massacre and ensuing Gaza war, the campus protests, the COVID-19 epidemic and lockdown, and the systematic efforts to weaponize our bureaucracies and courts have all led to radical reappraisals of American culture and civilization.

Since the 1960s, universities have always been hotbeds of left-wing protests, sometimes violently so.

But the post-October 7 campus eruptions marked a watershed difference.

Masked left-wing protestors were unashamedly and virulently anti-Semitic. Students on elite campuses especially showed contempt for both middle-class police officers tasked with preventing their violence and vandalism and the maintenance workers who had to clean up their garbage.

Mobs took over buildings, assaulted Jewish students, called for the destruction of Israel, and defaced American monuments and commentaries.

When pressed by journalists to explain their protests, most students knew nothing of the politics or geography of Palestine, for which they were protesting.

The public concluded that the more elite the campus, the more ignorant, arrogant, and hateful the students seemed.

The Biden administration destroyed the southern border. Ten million illegal aliens swarmed into the U.S. without audit. Almost daily, news accounts detail violent acts committed by illegal aliens or their surreal demands for more free lodging and support.

Simultaneously, thousands of Middle Eastern students, invited by universities on student visas, block traffic, occupy bridges, disrupt graduations, and generally show contempt for the laws of their American hosts.

The net result is that Americans are reappraising their entire attitude toward immigration. Expect the border to be closed soon and immigration to become mostly meritocratic, smaller, and legal, with zero tolerance for immigrants and resident visitors who break the laws of their hosts.

Americans are also reappraising their attitudes toward time-honored bureaucracies, the courts, and government agencies.

The public still cannot digest the truth that the once respected FBI partnered with social media to suppress news stories, to surveil parents at school board meetings, and to conduct performance art swat raids on the homes of supposed political opponents.

After the attempts of the Department of Justice to go easy on the miscreant Hunter Biden but to hound ex-president Donald Trump for supposedly removing files illegally in the same fashion as current President Biden, the public lost confidence not just in Attorney General Merrick Garland but in American jurisprudence itself.

The shenanigans of prosecutors like Fani Willis, Letitia James, and Alvin Bragg, along with overtly biased judges like Juan Merchant and Arthur Engoron, only reinforced the reality that the American legal system has descended into third-world-like tit-for-tat vendettas.

The same politicization has nearly discredited the Pentagon. Its investigations of “white” rage and white supremacy found no such organized cabals in the ranks. But these unicorn hunts likely helped cause a 45,000-recruitment shortfall among precisely the demographic that died at twice their numbers in the general population in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Add in the humiliating flight from Kabul, the abandonment of $50 billion in weapons to the Taliban terrorists, the recent embarrassment of the failed Gaza pier, and the litany of political invective from retired generals and admirals. The result is that the armed forces have an enormous task to restore public faith. They will have to return to meritocracy and emphasize battle efficacy, enforce the uniform code of military justice, and start either winning wars or avoiding those that cannot be won.

Finally, we are witnessing a radical inversion in our two political parties. The old populist Democratic Party that championed lunch-bucket workers has turned into a shrill union of the very rich and subsidized poor. Its support of open borders, illegal immigration, the war on fossil fuels, transgenderism, critical legal and race theories, and the woke agenda are causing the party to lose support.

The Republican Party is likewise rebranding itself from a once-stereotyped brand of aristocratic and corporate grandees to one anchored in the middle class.

Even more radically, the new populist Republicans are beginning to appeal to voters on shared class and cultural concerns rather than on racial and tribal interests.

The results of all these revolutions will shake up the U.S. for decades to come.

Soon we may see a Georgia Tech or Purdue degree as far better proof of an educated and civic-minded citizen than a Harvard or Stanford brand.

We will likely jettison the failed salad bowl approach to immigration and return to the melting pot as immigration becomes exclusively legal, meritocratic, and manageable.

To avoid further loss of public confidence, institutions like the FBI, the CIA, the Pentagon, and the DOJ will have to re-earn rather than just assume the public’s confidence.

And we may soon accept the reality that Democrats reflect the values of Silicon Valley plutocrats, university presidents, and blue-city mayors, while Republicans become the home of an ecumenical black, Hispanic, Asian, and white middle class.

Turkish Textbooks: Turning History on Its Head - Uzay Bulut

by Uzay Bulut

Sadly, these textbooks will sow more hatred in Turkish children against Jews, Greeks, Christians, Armenians, Greek Cypriots and the State of Israel -- all based on misinformation, willful distortion, and historic revisionism.

  • Islamists in Turkey do not teach schoolchildren that Jews have been indigenous to Israel for nearly 4000 years -- since the Bronze Age -- and that the reestablishment of Israel in 1948 was actually an anti-colonialist step.

  • Meanwhile, Turkish government authorities have targeted their own indigenous peoples of Anatolia, namely the Pontic Greeks and Armenians. In the twentieth century, Ottoman Turkey largely exterminated these peoples through a genocide.

  • The government of Turkey, however, refers to the genocide as the "unfounded claims" of Greeks and Armenians. The titles in the Turkish history textbooks were previously called the "Pontus Issue" and the "Armenian Question". They are now changed to the "Unfounded Pontus Claims" and the "Unfounded Armenian Claims".

  • "[T]his is not a [country ruled by the] state of law..." — Eren Keskin, Lawyer, Co-Chairman Human Rights Association (IHD).

  • The Turkish government is also in denial about the history of the land of Turkey. Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians are indigenous peoples of the land, just as Jews are indigenous to Israel. Muslim Turks from Central Asia arrived in the Armenian highlands and Anatoli, which was the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire at the time, only during the 11th century. Through military invasions, Muslim Turks seized the towns and cities where indigenous Christians had lived for centuries. Ottoman Turks finally invaded Constantinople (today's Istanbul) in the fifteenth century, bringing the destruction of the Byzantine Empire. After that, abuses against Christian religious and cultural heritage became widespread.

  • The new Turkish textbooks also claim Greek and Cypriot waters in the Aegean Sea as belonging to Turkey. Through a doctrine that the government of Turkey calls "the Blue Homeland", they aim to seize Greek islands and maritime space in the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas.

  • Sadly, these textbooks will sow more hatred in Turkish children against Jews, Greeks, Christians, Armenians, Greek Cypriots and the State of Israel -- all based on misinformation, willful distortion, and historic revisionism.

Turkey's Islamist government under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is preparing to further indoctrinate Turkish schoolchildren in propaganda regarding Israel, Greeks, Armenians, Cyprus and other issues of history and geography. Pictured: Students participate in an event, held in an Istanbul primary school, for National Sovereignty and Children's Day, on April 23, 2024. Turkey's Islamist government under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is preparing to further indoctrinate Turkish schoolchildren in propaganda regarding Israel, Greeks, Armenians, Cyprus and other issues of history and geography.

New content, named "Turkey's Century Education Model", was added to this year's curriculum and only recently made available for public opinion by the Ministry of National Education.

Additions were made, among other studies, to the "History of the Revolution of Turkish Republic and Kemalism", and geography, regarding Israel, Greeks, Armenians, Cyprus and others.

Turkish history textbooks will include more content on "Palestine", Israel and Zionism. The misleading chapter on the subject matter, which already existed, has now been extended even further.

The topic, previously addressed as "the Problem of Zionism", in now, in an expanded version, "Zionist movements, the Palestine issue and the transformation of colonialism". The new generation of Turkey's children is now being indoctrinated to become increasingly anti-Israel.

Islamists in Turkey do not teach schoolchildren that Jews have been indigenous to Israel for nearly 4,000 years -- since the Bronze Age -- and that the reestablishment of Israel as an independent state in 1948 was actually an anti-colonialist step.

"Zion" literally means Jerusalem. Zionism is a movement or idea that supports the Jewish right to self-determination in their ancestral homeland, the territory that is now the State of Israel.

The truth that Turkish children need to know is explained by the American Jewish Committee (AJC):

"As Israel continues to defend itself against the terrorist group Hamas, a war of information is unfolding around the world. One of the slogans most commonly used claims Israel is a 'settler colonial enterprise.' By charging Israel with colonizing Palestinians, Hamas and its supporters are manipulating the cause of racial justice to advance their terrorist goals - all while hoping no one notices Israel has been the homeland of the Jewish people since the Bronze Age.

"The truth is that the Jewish people are indigenous to the land of Israel and first achieved self-determination there 3,000 years ago.

"The Romans expelled the majority of Jews in 70 C.E., but the Jewish people have always been present in the land of Israel. A portion of the Jewish population remained in Israel throughout the years, and those who lived in the Diaspora yearned to return to the Jewish homeland and the holy Jewish city of Jerusalem, both of which are mentioned multiple times in daily Jewish prayers. This historical and religious link for Jewish people to the land of Israel is indisputable—even the word 'Jew' comes from Judea, the ancient name for Israel.

"As Jews around the world faced increasing persecution at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries, they began moving to what is now Israel in greater numbers. Since Israel's establishment shortly after the Holocaust, Jews have moved to Israel from all over the world, seeking a place to call home in which they can live freely and safely as Jews. At the same time, Jewish and Israeli leaders have consistently acknowledged the presence of Palestinian Arabs and have supported efforts to partition the land into Jewish and Arab states, from 1937 to the present day. The best-known attempt to divide the land came in the form of the 1947 UN Partition Plan, which was accepted by the local Jewish population but rejected by their Arab neighbors, who waged war to eliminate the Jewish state. More recently, successive Israeli prime ministers have offered to concede more than 90% of the West Bank and all of Gaza to create a Palestinian state alongside Israel. Palestinian leaders, however, have consistently rejected efforts at bringing about a two-state solution, as they did in 1947, and they continue to do so to this day.

"'Settler colonialism' refers to an attempt by an imperial power to replace the native population of a land with a new society of settlers. It cannot describe a reality in which a national group, acting on its behalf and not at the behest of an external power, returned to its historic homeland to achieve self-determination while simultaneously supporting the creation of a nation-state for another national group alongside the creation of their own state."

Meanwhile, Turkish government authorities have targeted their own indigenous peoples of Anatolia, namely the Pontic Greeks and Armenians. In the twentieth century, Ottoman Turkey largely exterminated these peoples through a genocide.

Serious scholars, however, agree that Ottoman Turkey committed a genocide against Christians, namely Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians. In 2007, the International Association of Genocide Scholars issued a resolution, which said, in part:

"It is the conviction of the International Association of Genocide Scholars that the Ottoman campaign against Christian minorities of the Empire between 1914 and 1923 constituted a genocide against Armenians, Assyrians, and Pontian and Anatolian Greeks."

According to Dr. Gregory H. Stanton, President of Genocide Watch, denial is the last stage of genocide:

"Denial is a continuation of a genocide because it is a continuing attempt to destroy the victim group psychologically and culturally, to deny its members even the memory of the murders of their relatives."

The government of Turkey has aggressively denied this genocide ever since its founding in 1923. Many Turkish citizens have been tried in courts for publicly recognizing the slaughter as a genocide. Two human rights advocates with Turkey's Human Rights Association (IHD) -- Co-Chairman and Lawyer Eren Keskin and member of the IHD Commission Against Racism and Discrimination Gulistan Yarkฤฑn -- were recently tried and acquitted of charges of "insulting the Turkish state and nation" for saying what was done to Armenians in 1915 was genocide, during a 2021 commemoration event for the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Prior to the hearing, Keskin said:

"We did not insult anyone. We think that what happened before Turkey was founded was a genocide. I believe that the state [of Turkey] continues this idea [implements similar genocidal policies]. We think this should be discussed. We think this will liberate this geography of ours. It will contribute to the democratization of this country. No law prevents us from expressing this. Turkey was convicted on this issue.

"Normally, in [a country ruled by] the state of law, when this accusation comes before a prosecutor, he should say, 'There is an ECHR [European Court of Human Rights] decision, Turkey was convicted on this issue, I cannot open this case'. But this is not a [country ruled by the] state of law, anyway. I think 1915 was genocide. The Turkish state should also face this issue and compensate for the damages [done to the victims]. I do not accept the accusation [directed against me]."

The Turkish government is also in denial about the history of the land of Turkey.

Hagia Sophia (Greek for "Holy Wisdom"), for instance, was built by Greeks in the 6th century as a church. Nearly 1,000 years later, Ottoman Turks converted the Hagia Sophia cathedral into a mosque, killing or enslaving the Christians inside. In 1930, the Turkish government converted Hagia Sophia to a museum, and in 2020, back into a mosque. This was the latest in a series of abuses against churches in Turkey and is part of a neo-Ottoman resurgence.

The new Turkish textbooks also claim Greek and Cypriot waters in the Aegean Sea as belonging to Turkey. Through a doctrine that the government of Turkey calls "the Blue Homeland", they aim to seize Greek islands and maritime space in the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. This doctrine will be taught in geography classes at middle schools.

The Greek newspaper Kathimerini reports:

"The 'Blue Homeland' doctrine which envisages Turkish influence over large swaths of the Mediterranean and other seas at the expense of other countries in the region, including Greece, will be taught during the next school year, local media revealed.

"According to the Turkish Education Ministry's recommendations that were made public by the Turkiye and Takvim newspapers, the maps and the Blue Homeland doctrine, as well another regarding influence in the air, will be taught in secondary school geography classes.

"The recommendations state that 'the value of patriotism should be instilled as well as Turkey's justified struggle against demands that ignore its legal and geographical rights in the Sea of Islands [i.e. the Aegean Sea] and the Eastern Mediterranean'."

Turkey has threatened to invade Greek islands since at least 2018.

The draft curriculum, which includes suggestions for teachers, also addresses the history of Cyprus, which Turkey illegally invaded in 1974. It suggests that students prepare a report on the "injustices suffered by the Turks in Cyprus" to present at the United Nations.

Apparently, in Turkey, black is white and white is black. Turkey has illegally occupied 36% of the Republic of Cyprus since it invaded the island country through a brutal military campaign. Greek Cypriots were killed, raped, tortured, unlawfully arrested, forcibly "disappeared," and put in labor camps. Around 160,000 Greek Cypriots fled their homes to escape the advancing Turkish army. To this day, the occupying forces impede the return of the forcibly displaced to their homes and property. Their property and possessions were forcibly seized and distributed to illegal settlers from Turkey. The Christian and Jewish cultural and religious heritage of the occupied area has largely been destroyed. Yet, the new curriculum in Turkey seriously suggests that teachers instruct students to write papers about the alleged "injustices against Turks in Cyprus"?

Sadly, these textbooks will sow more hatred in Turkish children against Jews, Greeks, Christians, Armenians, Greek Cypriots and the State of Israel -- all based on misinformation, willful distortion, and historic revisionism.

Indoctrinating Turkish schoolchildren with these unjust biases -- children who will oversee Turkish education and politics in the future -- will only make Turkey even more aggressive in its foreign policy and more vicious to its minorities and dissenters at home.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is behind a series of terrorist attacks carried out by criminal gangs targeting Israeli embassies throughout Europe since Oct. 7, the Mossad intelligence agency said on Thursday.

The Israeli intelligence agency opened up a probe alongside European counterparts after an object believed to be a hand grenade was thrown towards the Israeli embassy in Stockholm on Jan. 31.

Following an investigation, detectives concluded that Sweden’s Foxtrot organized crime network carried out the attack on the compound at Tehran’s behest, the Mossad said on Thursday.

Dozens of Iran-backed terrorist plots against Jewish and Israeli targets in Europe were uncovered in recent months, many of which used local criminal rings, the agency said.

Two weeks ago, Stockholm police opened an investigation after a patrol heard gunshots near the embassy of the Jewish state. The Mossad said on Thursday that Swedish security forces arrested a 14-year-old suspect in connection with the attack, which was said to have been carried out by a crime group called Rumba and also directed by Iran.

Tehran-backed gangs are also thought to have carried out an attack on Israel’s mission in Brussels, in which two airsoft grenades were thrown.

(Airsoft is a team-based shooting game in which participants eliminate opposing players from play by shooting them with spherical plastic projectiles shot from airsoft guns. Airsoft grenades come in various types and functionalities, including gas airsoft grenades, sound airsoft grenades and airsoft smoke grenades.)

“Iran operates many criminal organizations in Sweden and Europe in general, while taking advantage of the relative advantage of each and sometimes the rivalry between them,” the Mossad statement continued.

Foxtrot and Rumba receive funding and direction from Iran, Jerusalem revealed, adding that they are closely monitored by local intelligence agencies.

In April, Israel renewed calls for other nations to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as a terrorist organization and impose “painful” sanctions on Tehran after the regime launched hundreds of missiles and suicide drones at the Jewish state in a direct attack.

Last year, the European Parliament voted in favor of a measure calling for Brussels to designate the IRGC as a terrorist group, but the nonbinding measure was stymied by foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who asserted that such a move was not possible until an E.U. court had ruled on the issue.

Responding last month to Borrell’s claim that the legal conditions have not been met, Charlie Weimers, a Swedish member of European Parliament for the Conservatives and Reformists group, called the top diplomat a “liar.”

“Here, I have the [European] Council’s secret legal opinion. Nowhere in this document does it say that it has to be an authority in the E.U.,” he said. “You know that. You knew the truth. You shamelessly lied to protect the IRGC. We won’t miss you, Mr. Borrell, but I’m sure the mullahs will.”

(The European Council is a collegiate body that defines the overall political direction and priorities of the European Union. It is part of the executive of the European Union beside the European Commission. It is composed of the heads of state or of government of the E.U. member states, the president of the European Council and the president of the European Commission. )

Some E.U. countries, including Germany, are pushing to classify the IRGC as a terrorist organization based on a Dรผsseldorf court ruling holding Tehran responsible for an attack on a synagogue in November 2022.

Georgia elections chief: Democrats tipped hand in court case on desire to unleash noncitizen voting - Natalia Mittlestadt

by Natalia Mittlestadt

"We have a robust citizenship verification process — they wanted us to stop that, we won in court, and now we can continue to do citizenship verification," Brad Raffensperger said.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says Democrats have tipped their hand to their desire to unleash noncitizen voting by opposing his state’s citizenship verification in court and he is urging elections chiefs in other states to fight such lawsuits.

Georgia’s citizenship verification system has prevented noncitizens from getting on state voter rolls, but the state had to defend it in court against a group founded by former Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

In April, a federal judge dismissed the challenge to Georgia's citizenship verification process by several left-wing voting rights organizations.

One of the groups that filed the lawsuit in 2018 was New Georgia Project, which was founded by Abrams.

Fair Fight Action, also founded by Abrams, had brought a similar lawsuit that was decided in favor of the state in 2022.

According to the original complaint in the 2018 lawsuit, the groups claimed the state’s citizenship verification process violated the First and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and the National Voter Registration Act of 1993.

Georgia compares naturalized citizens’ voter registrations with the state’s Department of Driver Services (DDS) to verify citizenship. If the citizenship of a person who registers to vote cannot be verified, then they have 26 months to provide documented proof, or else their registration application will be canceled.

Raffensperger told the “Just the News, No Noise” TV show on Wednesday that what left-wing groups “want to do is stop us from doing citizenship verification during the driver's license process that we do with DDS. And we have a robust citizenship verification process — they wanted us to stop that, we won in court, and now we can continue to do citizenship verification.”

The secretary of state said that when Georgians ask him if there are any non-citizens on the state’s voter rolls, he says, “No, they aren’t, because we have the robust citizenship check that we have in place.”

Raffensperger told other secretaries of state regarding non-citizens getting on voter rolls, “You need to stop it, and you need to stop it now.”

He added that those on the left who are for non-citizens voting “want to wait till it's a big problem, then all of a sudden, what do you do? So we pushed back hard, we won our case.”

Raffensperger also referenced when Abrams ran against Brian Kemp for Georgia governor in 2018 and said, “the blue wave is … comprised of those who are documented and undocumented.”

“She talked about the blue wave, that she was going to have undocumented immigrants voting in our elections,” Raffensperger said.

“And so we've been pushing back, Brian Kemp and I, against her stolen election, her voter suppression myths, and all of her, you know, lawsuits that she's cost the state of Georgia to spend millions of dollars pushing back,” he added.

Raffensperger also mentioned how he conducted an audit in 2022 that found over 1,600 non-citizens tried to register to vote.

"We found about 1,600 people who attempted to register, but were never put on, the voter rolls because of our very robust and rigorous audit system that we have here in Georgia," he said.

However, Democrats are claiming that Republicans have said that non-citizens are voting in federal elections as a reason for losing the 2024 election.

At a congressional hearing earlier this month, Rep. Joe Morelle, D-N.Y., said that non-citizens are not voting in U.S. elections, and that Republicans are using the “non-issue” to explain why former President Donald Trump will lose the 2024 presidential election.

“This hearing is about preemptively covering Donald Trump’s lies,” Morelle said. “The hearing isn’t about law and order. It's about laying the foundation for the next big lie. It’s about saying that illegal voting is the cause of an election defeat.”

Also during that hearing, Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala., flatly claimed that non-citizens are not voting in U.S. elections. Sewell introduced into evidence an opinion article by Morelle, in which he wrote, "independent sources have repeatedly debunked this myth, verifying that non-citizens voting in federal elections is extraordinarily rare and has never been shown to impact the outcome of any election."

While non-citizens are prohibited from voting in federal, state, and most local elections, California, Maryland, Vermont, and Washington, D.C., allow non-citizens to vote in local elections.

Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Ohio have all included language in their state constitutions that prohibits non-citizen voting. Meanwhile, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, and Wisconsin all have ballot measures for voters to decide this year whether non-citizens should be prohibited from voting in state elections.

Thousands of non-citizens have either been found on or prevented from being placed on voter rolls in various states over the last few years:

  • During a House Administration Committee hearing earlier this month, committee chairman Bryan Steil, R-Wis., said that 500 non-citizens are registered to vote in Washington, D.C.
  • According to a Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) report from last May, Chicago records show that 394 foreign nationals were removed from the city’s voter rolls since 2007, with 20 of them recorded as casting 85 ballots.
  • Also in May 2023, Virginia removed 1,481 voter registrations for lack of U.S. citizenship.
  • In April 2023, PILF reported that Maricopa County, Ariz., records showed that since 2015, 222 foreign nationals were removed from the county’s voter rolls, with nine of them recorded as casting 12 ballots across four federal elections.
  • According to a February PILF report, since 2021, 186 registrants were removed from voter rolls Pima County, Ariz., for lack of U.S. citizenship. Of those, seven had cast ballots in two federal and local elections.
  • The Pennsylvania Department of State announced in September 2017 that records indicated 1,160 non-citizens had since 1972 requested their voter registrations be canceled.
  • At the end of 2021, then-Texas Secretary of State John Scott (R) released the results of the first phase of his audit of the states's voter rolls, which found that 11,737 potential non-U.S. citizens were identified as being registered to cast ballots, with many located in the counties around Texas' two largest cities of Houston and Dallas.
  • Earlier this month, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (R) directed all 88 counties to begin a removal process for non-citizens on Ohio's voter rolls following a review by his office's Public Integrity Division and Office of Data Analytics and Archives. The review analyzed data from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and found 137 voter registrations of non-citizens who had twice confirmed their lack of U.S. citizenship.
  • Another PILF report noted that ahead of the 2014 midterm elections, North Carolina found that 1,454 individuals on state voter rolls were not naturalized U.S. citizens. Of those, 89 registrants appeared at polling places, 24 of which were challenged, with 11 of the challenges sustained.

Police have pledged to increase their presence at Jewish schools across the city as a precautionary measure after the incident, the second of the kind in Canada in recent days.

Law enforcement officials in Montreal are investigating a shooting at a Jewish school in the city’s Cรดte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grรขce borough, according to a police spokesperson.

Officers responded late Wednesday afternoon to reports of a potential shooting outside a school on Hillsdale Road near Van Horne Avenue, according to police.

Upon arriving at the scene around 6 p.m., officers established a perimeter and determined that at least one bullet had struck the school building. The spokesperson noted that the investigation remains in its early stages.

The incident drew swift condemnation from political figures and Jewish advocacy organizations.

In a joint statement, Yair Szlak, president and CEO of Federation CJA, and Eta Yudin, vice-president of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs Quebec, decried the attack, stating, “We have had enough. Another Jewish school shooting in Canada.”

On May 25, two suspects fired several shots at the Bais Chaya Mushka School for Girls in Toronto at around 4:50 a.m., causing damage to the building but no injuries as the building was empty at the time.

Police were called to the scene at around 9 a.m. after staff called investigators with a report of “evidence of a firearm discharge,” according to Inspector Paul Krawczyk of the Toronto Police’s Guns and Gangs Task Force.

Police released video footage of the suspects on Monday.

While expressing relief that no one was in the building at the time, the statement condemning the Montreal shooting called for decisive action from municipal leaders to address such intimidation and hatred. It also urged all citizens to raise their voices against acts fueled by antisemitism.

The Montreal police have pledged to increase their presence at Jewish schools across the city as a precautionary measure, according to the statement from the advocacy groups.

Rachel Bendayan, a member of Parliament representing the Outremont district, took to the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to confirm that she had spoken with school administrators and community leaders regarding the incident.
