The Media Desperately Wants To Disprove Trump’s True Claims About Kamala’s EV Plans - Paul Bradford

 by Paul Bradford

Kamala Harris and the rest of her party want to act like they’ve never supported EV mandates. But the facts tell a different story–and the American people will vote accordingly.

Donald Trump wants the public to know Kamala Harris’s plans to force Americans to drive electric vehicles. This is a serious weak point for the Democratic nominee, which is why the mainstream media wants to “fact-check” these attacks. The problem for liberal journalists is that Trump’s claim is based on actual fact. The media can only nitpick at the accurate assessment of Kamala’s plans.

The Trump campaign is running ads in Michigan that warn autoworkers: “Kamala Harris wants to end all gas-powered cars.” Third-party groups such as Driving Force Action are also airing ads in the Great Lake State and other Rust Belt battlegrounds that hammer Kamala and the Democrats for their record. These ads aren’t based on fake news; they rely on what Kamala has actually supported and testimonials from those whose livelihoods could be destroyed by a ban on gas-powered cars.

However, Politico recently tried to argue that the Trump campaign ad is “false” with some of the flimsiest reasoning imaginable:

The attack line is a distortion of two policies Vice President and President Joe Biden have pursued: stricter tailpipe pollution standards for newly built cars along with hefty subsidies to produce the new generation of electric vehicles in the U.S. — along with Harris’ now-disavowed support for legislation phasing out gas-powered cars.

The problem with this “fact check” is that both policies, especially Kamala’s support for phasing out gas-powered cars, validate Trump’s claims. These policies suppress the making of gas-powered vehicles. Only pedantry prevents Politico from admitting this. The news outlet insists that Biden’s policies don’t quite ban gas-powered cars and fully accepts Kamala’s flip-flop on the issue as a genuine change of heart. You have to be a liberal journalist to believe that.

When Harris first ran for president, she embraced the proposal to end making gas-powered cars by 2035. “[W]e will ensure that 50 percent of all new passenger vehicles sold are zero-emission by 2030, and 100 percent are zero-emission by 2035,” her campaign website declared at the time. She also pledged that “all new buses, heavy-duty vehicles, and vehicle fleets will be zero-emission.” The cost to achieve the climate plan she put forward then was estimated at $10 trillion.

Additionally, as a senator, Harris sponsored the Zero Emissions Act, which would require by 2040 that all new passenger vehicles release no greenhouse gases. That sounds awfully like she wants to end all gas-powered cars.

Kamala has since changed her tune—like she has on many other issues. Now her campaign insists that she “does not support an electric vehicle mandate.” She refuses to offer specifics though on her position. However, she does tell rally audiences that “I will never tell you what kind of car you have to drive.” This line is good enough for Politico.

The media continually provides this pathetic cover for Kamala’s lies and flip-flops. The big outlets also label any claims that Harris was “border czar” as false—despite the very same outlets previously calling the VP that. Some outlets have gone as far as to edit or delete mentions of this designation for Kamala.

The same thing is happening with Kamala’s EV plan. She clearly supported plans to phase out gas-powered cars, just like how she was clearly appointed by President Biden to oversee the border. The media, knowing it’s bad for these claims to stick to their preferred candidate, just pretends they’re not true.

Kamala is not the only Democrat running away from policies that would cripple America’s car market. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who’s the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, also wants people to believe she’s opposed to EV mandates. She’s running ads telling Michiganders she doesn’t want to tell them what kind of car they should drive. However, Slotkin, like Kamala, has supported efforts to restrict gas-powered cars and force Americans to go electric. Now that she’s in a tough battle to represent the center of American car manufacturing, she strikes a different tone.

These facts won’t be easy to hide, even with the media on the Democrats’ side.

The greater attention to Kamala’s record is having an effect. The vice president and the rest of her party want to act like they’ve never supported EV mandates. But the facts tell a different story—and the American people will vote accordingly.
