“Resistance is not Terrorism.”
Last night the Freedom Center’s poster campaign to expose the links between campus anti-Israel activists and Hamas terrorists targeted the terrorist-supporting network at Vassar College. Vassar is the smallest campus on the Center’s list of “Top Ten Schools Supporting Terrorists,” but one of the most extreme in its advocacy of the genocidal claims of Students for Justice in Palestine and the BDS movement against Israel.
Vassar College supports a highly active Hamas-inspired and funded boycott movement that successfully passed a BDS resolution on campus last spring. BDS is a toxic movement that even Hillary Clinton has denounced as anti-Semitic The Vassar chapter of SJP also distributed a pamphlet celebrating Omar Barghouti the founder of the BDS movement, which is a genocidal attempt orchestrated by terrorists to strangle the Jewish state. Vassar SJP celebrates terrorism by selling T-shirts picturing convicted anti-Israel terrorist Leila Khaled holding a gun with the words “Resistance is not Terrorism.” The chapter also posted a 1940’s era anti-Semitic Nazi graphic on social media.
The Freedom Center’s poster operation campaign identifies Students for Justice in Palestine as a campus front for Hamas terrorists and the Hamas intermediary American Muslims for Palestine (AMP). AMP was revealed in recent congressional testimony to be funneling terrorist dollars to Students for Justice in Palestine to support the Hamas-sponsored, anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign in America.
One of the posters features Vassar College Professor Joshua Schreier who is described on the poster as “SJP Supporter, BDS Supporter, Anti-Israel Activist.”
The posters are part of a larger Freedom Center campaign to Stop the Jew Hatred on Campus. The campaign is designed to confront the agents of campus anti-Semitism and expose the financial and organizational relationship between the terror group Hamas and Hamas support groups such as Students for Justice in Palestine. As part of the campaign, the Freedom Center has placed posters on several campuses including San Diego State University, Brooklyn College, San Francisco State University, and the University of California-Los Angeles. The campaign also recently released a report on the “Top Ten Schools Supporting Terrorists” which may be found on the campaign website, www.StoptheJewHatredonCampus.org. Vassar College is among the campuses listed in the Top Ten report. The section of the report demonstrating Vassar College’s support of anti-Israel terrorists follows below.
Supporting Evidence:
April 01, 2016: The Vassar BDS coalition launched a referendum to support a pro-BDS amendment. In the Facebook announcement of the referendum, the coalition blamed the amendment’s prior failure on pressure from the administration: “We recognize that this was largely due to administration’s intimidation. Their threat to defund the Vassar Student Association for performing its duties demonstrated the degree to which BDS represents a threat to the State of Israel, and the fragility of student democracy on this campus.”

March 20, 2016: The anti-Israel, pro-BDS organization Jewish Voice for Peace published an article in the campus paper titled “BDS Vital Step Toward Colonial Resistance.” The article lauded the genocidal and Hamas-inspired BDS campaign against Israel and demonized Israel by stating that “The BDS Movement combats anti-Arab racism inherent in Israel’s ongoing colonization of Arab lands.”

March 06, 2016: In a vote of 15-7, the Vassar Student Association passed a BDS resolution against Israel. During the discussion prior to the vote, pro-BDS students mocked and laughed at a Jewish student who was crying as she described how the BDS campaign made her extremely anxious. When another Jewish student brought up the Holocaust, he was accused of using it to score political points and justify the “genocide” of another people.

February 23, 2016: SJP at Vassar hosted a workshop titled “The Case for BDS.” A description of the event called for Israel to act in ways that would destroy the Jewish state making it vulnerable to Palestinian terror attacks by ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands occupied in June 1967 and dismantling the Wall” (i.e., its security fence) and “Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN Resolution 194.” The UN resolution does not stipulate a right of return for 5 million so-called refugees who never spent in a day of their lives in Israel.

February 17, 2016: Vassar SJP distributed a pamphlet titled “Boycotts Work: An Interview with Omar Barghouti.” Barghouti is the founder of the modern BDS movement, a genocidal attempt inspired and funded by Hamas to destroy Israel. In the interview distributed by SJP, Barghouti claims that “it’s really very hypocritical and deceptive to call the academic boycott a form of infringement on academic freedom.”

February 11, 2016: Vassar SJP celebrated terrorism by selling T-shirts picturing convicted terrorist Leila Khaled holding a gun with the words “Resistance is not Terrorism” written below the graphic. SJP Vassar’s post further endorsed the T-shirt’s message of support for terrorism: “Check out our friends at Existence is Resistance!!! They will be selling sweet fucking antiZionist gear at our events. 100% of profits goes towards organizing Palestinian resistance #ExistenceisResistance”

February 10, 2016: The Grassroots Alliance for Alternative Politics (GAAP) endorsed Vassar SJP’s statement supporting BDS and released their own BDS endorsement which read, in part: “The Israeli State and its occupation of Palestinian homelands violates basic human rights such as the right to self-determination and nationality, perpetuates horrific violence on both state and interpersonal levels, and continues the historical tradition of racist imperialism (amongst other atrocities). We support BDS as a means to express our solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle against an oppressive force.” The Israeli state does not occupy any “Palestinian homelands.” Israel was created on land that belonged to the Turks, who are not Arabs or Palestinians for 400 years previously. All other “occupations” are the result of 70 years of unprovoked Arab wars against Israel and the refusal of the Arabs to sign a peace that recognizes Israel’s right to exist.

February 05, 2016: Anti-Semitic comments were posted on the social media site YikYak for the Vassar College area. These remarks included “f-ck Jews” and “you’re a retard and so are Zionists,” and “Jews through terrorism have kept Palestinians locked like animals in their home.”

February 03, 2016: Vassar Professor Jasbir Puar of the Women and Gender Studies Department gave a lecture on the topic “Inhumanist Biopolitics: How Palestine Matters.” During her address, Puar urged Vassar to join the BDS movement against Israel and demonized the Jewish state with Hitlerian claims originating with Hamas that Israel“assassinates” teenagers, harvests organs from Palestinian prisoners, and acts to “maim” and “stunt” the growth of Palestinians by denying them basic resources. Puar’s talk was sponsored by several university departments including Jewish Studies, Political Science, International Studies, Africana Studies, English, and Women’s Studies.

March 03, 2015: As part of Israeli Apartheid Week on campus, Vassar SJP co-sponsored a speech by Professor Sa’ed Atshan. The speech was also sponsored by several Vassar departments including the Political Science Department, Religion Department, International Studies Program, Jewish Studies Program, Asian Studies Program, and Africana Studies Program. Atshan used his address to promote the Hamas-inspired BDS movement against Israel and advocated for Israel’s replacement by an Arab state.

May 2014: Vassar SJP posted a “racist, anti-Semitic graphic” on its social media Tumbler page, depicting a 1940’s-era Nazi propaganda poster of a many-armed figure wearing a loincloth featuring the Star of David and holding a bag of money.

April 3, 2014: Protest/Disruption of Pro-Israel Events: SJP protested outside of a StandWithUs Israeli Soldiers’ Stories event. Five or six SJP students posted signs outside the event that read, “Israel is apartheid,” “Israel commits genocide,” and other demonizing lies against Israel. When the speaker, Hen Mazzig, tried to engage them and invited them to come attend the event and ask questions afterward, they responded by saying, “We don’t talk to occupiers,” and left as a group. This refusal to speak with supporters of Israel is a Hamas policy against “normalization” of relations with pro-Israel groups. http://miscellanynews.org/2014/04/02/opinions/campus-discourse-continues-to-be-strong/

Fall 2008: Joshua Schreier, an Associate Professor of History and Director of Jewish Studies at Vassar, released his course description for a class he teaches on “The Roots of the Palestine-Israel Conflict.” Schreier is a supporter of the genocidal BDS movement against Israel. Schreier warns students that the class makes no pretense at objectivity: “Students should keep in mind that this course is NOT designed to present ‘an objective’ account of a ‘two-sided’ conflict.”
