The Haifa District Court sentenced a
27-year-old Galilee man on Tuesday to seven years in prison and one on
probation for contact with a foreign agent and conspiracy to aid the
enemy in times of war.
Milad Khatib, an Arab Israeli man from the
village of Majdal Krum, admitted that he was in contact with a Hezbollah
agent during the 2006 Second Lebanon War. Khatib informed the Lebanese
terrorist organization where the rockets it fired from southern Lebanon
into Israel had landed. The Israel Defense Forces does not announce the
precise locations where rockets fired into Israeli territory explode.
Hezbollah also asked Khatib to gather information about Israeli weapons
arsenals, military bases and other strategic locations during the war.
Khatib also tracked President Shimon Peres's
visit in Majdal Krum, relaying information regarding the president's
security arrangements to Hezbollah.
The Haifa court shortened Khatib's sentence because he
admitted to the charges against him as part of a plea bargain. Aiding
the enemy in times of war is a crime punishable by death or life
sentence, the panel of judges, led by Judge Yosef Elron, informed
Khatib.
