Hamas sleeper cells in Judea and Samaria have
recently been ordered to get ready to carry out a series of terrorist
attacks, including suicide bombings, against Israeli targets, Lebanon's
Al-Akhbar newspaper quoted a Hamas official as saying Thursday.
The statement is said to reflect a recent
operational decision by Hamas to return to a more violent armed
resistance against Israel.
According to the report, Hamas operatives in
Judea and Samaria have been ordered to attack military and civilian
Israeli targets both inside and outside the Green Line.
The Lebanese daily's report follows a
statement by a Palestinian security official, who said in early December
that Ramallah had knowledge of dozens of Palestinians, former security
prisoners held in Israel and released as part of the 2011 prisoner
exchange that secured the return of Hamas captive Gilad Schalit, who
were once again involved in terrorist activity, in violation of the
conditions of their parole.
Al-Akhbar further confirmed that a Hamas cell that was recently apprehended in Abu Dis, just outside Jerusalem, was in the final stages of planning a terrorist attack in Israel.
According to the report, the cell was meant to target "senior Israeli security and political officials."
A Hamas source told the Lebanese newspaper
that one of the cell members had reached out to a contact in the
Palestinian Authority's security forces in hopes he would help the
cell's members obtain false identification that would allow them to
cross into Israel, and that it was that security official who turned
them in.
Meanwhile, Palestinian media reported Thursday
that Israel had returned the bodies of 12 terrorists killed while
carrying out or attempting to carry out attacks in Israel over the past
few weeks.
According to the reports, the bodies were returned without preconditions from Israel.
