Arabic-speaking non-Jewish Israelis are known by many collective terms -- Arab Israelis, Israeli Arabs, Palestinian Israelis, Palestinians with Israeli citizenship, and more. Each label emphasizes a particular aspect of the community's identity and its relationship with wider society. Such labels are necessarily subjective and fraught with political significance, and there is no objective, value-neutral option.
For decades, attention has been focused on the "Palestinization" of Israel's Arab community, an important trend since direct contact between Arabs inside Israel and their relatives on the other side of the Green Line was re-established after the Six-Day War.
But, simultaneously, the Arab minority in Israel has undergone a process of "Israelization," which, for a variety of reasons, is little discussed or understood.
"My Home," a new documentary film by Chutzpa Productions, explores the growing phenomenon of outspoken support for Israel by members of its non-Jewish minority groups -- Muslims, Druze, and Christians. The film's European premiere will be at the Berlin Jewish Film Festival on June 15.
In this episode of Israel Hayom Insider, producer and director Igal Hecht speaks with Opinion Editor Steve Ganot about the film.
