Plot believed to be an attempt by Iran to avenge the November 2020 assassination of nuclear mastermind Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.
The Mossad intelligence agency foiled several Iranian terrorist attacks against Israeli targets in Africa, Channel 12 News reported Sunday.
The terrorists, from the Quds Force – Iran's elite extraterritorial black-ops unit – have reportedly been trying for months to target Israeli businessmen in Senegal and Ghana, as well as in Tanzania, where Israelis are used to going on safari.
Iran is trying to avenge the November 2020 assassination of nuclear mastermind Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, for which Tehran blames on Israel.
According to a New York Times article, the assassination required no agents on-site and took less than a minute.
The weapon used to eliminate the scientist, considered by Israel and many Western countries to be the "father" of Iran's military nuclear program, was a Belgian-made FN MAG machine gun attached to a robot and powered by facial recognition technology.
The entire device weighed about a ton and was smuggled into Iran in pieces prior to the operation, then reassembled.
According to foreign media reports, the Mossad team heading the operation managed the carry it out from a command center outside the country.
Israel, long suspected of eliminating various Iranian nuclear scientists over the last decade, has repeatedly declined to comment on the incident.
