National Security Advisor Eyal Hulata says Israel is not afraid to tell the Americans that its opinion on Iran is fundamentally different from that of the US.
Israel’s National Security Advisor and head of the National Security Council, Eyal Hulata, revealed on Thursday evening after meeting with US President Joe Biden that Israel has acted in Iran to eradicate threats to its security.
"We have operated quite a bit in the last year in Iran," Hulata said in an interview with Channel 13 News.
Commenting on the disputes between Israel and the United States over the handling of the Iranian nuclear issue, he said, "There is no doubt that the current US administration has stated that there is a desire to return to the nuclear deal and continue diplomacy with them. It has been more than a year and a half since the Biden administration took office, we have not returned to the agreement, and that says a lot of things about the reality in the region."
"President Biden has said all along that he prefers a solution of diplomacy, but also that in the absence of other solutions, he will use military force against Iran. I heard the US President say that, and one of his famous statements is that 'world powers do not bluff' - so this needs to be taken seriously," he added.
"We are not scared to tell the Americans that we think differently or even to act in Iran. Israel will act as it sees fit. We have acted quite a bit in Iran in the last year, and the United States is backing us. We are acting logically and responsibly and everyone can see that it does not harm the relationship between the President of the United States and Israel, but on the contrary," continued Hulata.
Hulata also spoke about the attempt to establish relations with Saudi Arabia. "We have been working for months to strengthen Israel's relationship with the countries of the region, and without a doubt Saudi Arabia is the most important country in the region with which Israel can have a peaceful relationship, and we are working on it."
"We must not put the cart before the horse, Prime Minister Lapid and President Biden have chosen to ask for patience, and there is room for the optimism of the US President. In the coming months we will see what happens. Naturally, as was the case before the Abraham Accords, a country that takes a step and going into a public relationship with Israel is apprehensive. This is not surprising, they are afraid of how it will look in the public and in the region," said the head of the National Security Council.
