While the resolution has no practical value, "we will not allow international actors to blur the Jewish nation's connection to its eternal capital," writes Foreign Ministry Director General Dore Gold in letter to 33 countries that supported the decision.

Foreign Ministry Director General Dore Gold
wrote a harshly worded letter on Wednesday in which he rebuked the 33
countries that voted in favor of the UNESCO decision to
change its language for the Temple Mount and refer to the site
exclusively by its Arabic name, "Haram al-Sharif" ("the Noble
Sanctuary").
UNESCO is the United Nations body responsible
for protecting historical and archeological sites throughout the world.
Last Thursday's resolution was supported by several countries friendly
to Israel, including Russia, France, Spain, Slovenia and Sweden.
In his letter, Gold admonished UNESCO for its
efforts to erase the Jewish connection to the nation's capital,
Jerusalem, and to the Jewish holy sites.
Gold wrote that while the resolution has no
practical value, "we will not allow international actors to blur the
Jewish nation's connection to its eternal capital."
Gold explained that the letter was written at the behest
of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who called the resolution "yet
another absurd U.N. decision."
