Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres met with Czech President Milos Zeman on Monday in Jerusalem.
During the meeting Netanyahu noted that
"between the Czech people and the Jewish people, and the Czech Republic
and Israel, is a deep and true friendship.
"The Czech Republic was asked to make
compromises, which ultimately not only endangered its sovereignty and
security -- but also the security and peace of all Europe," said the
prime minister. "We learned this lesson and so did you -- we don't
intend to repeat it."
Peres, who hosted an official state welcome in
the capital, told Zeman, "We greatly appreciate your strong stance and
decision to oppose the aggressive intentions of the Iranian regime,
which poses a greater threat to the entire world."
The Czech president told his hosts: "I completely
understand the need for an independent Jewish and democratic state.
There is an amazing resemblance between Czech history and Israel's
history."
