A delegation of 26 parliamentarians from
Europe, South America and Africa has arrived in Israel to express strong
opposition to the implementation of the recent European Union decision to mark products produced in Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria.
The foreign lawmakers belong to an
international lobby group that opposes the boycott of goods produced in
Israeli settlements, and their visit is taking place under the auspices
of the annual conference of the Israel Allies Foundation, an
international parliamentary pro-Israel lobby group.
The members of the delegation met Tuesday with
three Israeli MKs who also belong to the lobby: Robert Ilatov (Yisrael
Beytenu), Yoel Hasson (Zionist Union) and Anat Berko (Likud). The main
event of the visit is scheduled for Tuesday evening at the Arena Stadium
in Jerusalem. Christians from more than 90 countries are expected to
attend.
On Wednesday, the delegation is scheduled to
visit a number of settlements and meet with Public Security Minister
Gilad Erdan, the government official responsible for fighting boycotts
against Israel, as well as with Social Equality Minister Gila Gamliel
and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.
Their tour is also slated to include a meeting with the
parents of Gil-ad Shaer, who, along with Naftali Frenkel and Eyal
Yiftach, was kidnapped and murdered by Hamas members in June 2014.
