KAINESPLAINING The Iranian Protests - Lloyd Billingsley

by Lloyd Billingsley

Failed VP candidate's take on the anti-Mullah protesters reveals his liberation theology roots.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton can no longer blame terrorism on a video, wipe clean her private server, and tell fathomless lies with impunity. In similar style, the former First Lady can no longer get away with blaming her husband’s sexual predations on some “vast right-wing conspiracy.” In all this excitement, the establishment media have lost track of Hillary’s 2016 co-loser.

In late December, Iranians launched massive protests of the ruling Islamic regime, which has failed to improve the economy despite planeloads of cash courtesy of POTUS 44. Members of his administration such as Susan Rice have been urging President Trump to keep quiet and do nothing, just like POTUS 44 in 2009.

Former State Department mouthpiece Marie Harf claims the 2009 protesters said American support would not help. So department bosses sat silent while the mullahs crushed the revolt. Iran’s Islamic regime now charges protesters with “waging war against God” and as the death toll mounts, Sen. Tim Kaine has joined the chorus.

“Big step US could take to support democracy movement in Iran,” Kaine tweeted. “Drop the Iranian travel ban.” The Virginia Democrat thus exploited the crisis to expand the Islamschluss, then took it to another level.

“As 2017 ends, we see people asserting themselves around the globe, demanding human rights and equality,” Kaine tweeted. “Hong Kong, Russia, Iran, Turkey, Venezuela, Honduras. Same energy in US—marches, citizen activism, strong electoral turnout. My wish for 2018: Resistance becomes Renewal!”

So the movements against Islamic regimes, Communist dictatorships, Russian autocracy, socialist thugs, and Central American authoritarians equal the “resistance” to the elected President of the United States Donald Trump. It takes a special kind of person to pull that off, but by all indications, Kaine is the right tool for the job.

In 1980, while supposedly on a life-changing mission to Central America, Kaine “embraced an interpretation of the gospel known as liberation theology.” This was not mainstream Catholic thought but “a radical, Marxist-based ideology at odds with the Church, the pope, and the United States, but supportive of (and supported by) the Soviet Union.”

That was Ken Blackwell, a former ambassador to the UN Commission on Human Rights, in a September 2016 piece for The Hill titled, “Tim Kaine’s Radical Roots.” Blackwell notes that liberation theology was “quite possibly a product of a Kremlin disinformation campaign designed to undermine the Church and bring Catholic countries into the Soviet sphere.” For his part, “Kaine embraced not some reconstituted, post-Marxist version, but the hardcore, Cold War variety — an avowed Marxist ideology inimical to the institutional Catholic Church and to the United States.”

As the late Michael Novak noted, the trouble with liberation theology was that it didn’t liberate anything and only generated poverty and oppression. For its eager acolytes, on the other hand, enmity to the United States was the key factor, so after the Cold War they welcomed the Islamists.

The Virginia-based International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) donated $10,000 to a PAC that gave more than $40,000 to Kaine’s campaign for governor. In 2007, Virginia governor Tim Kaine appointed to the Virginia Commission on Immigration Dr. Esam Omeish, a Libyan-born physician who supported the “jihad way,” which meant only the struggle to “resist occupation” and so forth. The American Islamic Forum for Democracy said the appointment was “unfortunate” and Kaine asked Omeish to resign. Even so, while running for the Senate in 2011, Tim Kaine spoke at an IIIT “Candidate Night” dinner.

Kaine’s Marxist-Islamist connections doubtless played a major role in his selection as a running mate for Hillary Clinton, beating out contenders such as Mecha razaista Xavier Becerra. In October, 2016, Peter Osnos authored a 7663-word New Yorker profile noting that “devout Roman Catholic” Kaine was “more comfortable quoting Scripture than any Democrat to reach the level of presidential politics since Jimmy Carter.” And the candidate proclaimed “my faith is central to everything I do.”

Kaine had “elements of Joe Biden’s heart and Barack Obama’s brain,” and from the Richmond city council to governor to the U.S. Senate, Tim Kaine had never lost an election. That streak came to an end the next month, but Democrats still charge that Trump tapped Putin to steal the election.

If Deep State Democrats can’t topple Trump in a coup, who might their 2020 candidate be?  The latest contender is Oprah Winfrey, but Tim Kaine can’t be counted out.

His manner is decidedly effete and his Spanish scarcely better than Jimmy Carter’s but those might be assets with the Democrat base and the imported electorate. Kaine’s equation of Iranian protest with the resistance to Trump certainly deserves ridicule but no surprise that the establishment media fails to find the senator a target-rich environment.

When it comes to the Cold War, liberation theology, and the Iranian crisis of 1979, current journalists are pretty much in the dark. As Iran deal promoter Ben Rhodes put it, “they literally know nothing.”

The Democrats’ candidate is not likely to be Bernie Sanders but the socialist shows more sense on Iran than Tim Kaine. “It is the right of all people to speak out against their government,” Sanders tweeted. “The government of Iran should respect this right and heed the voices of thousands of Iranians who are demonstrating across the country for better opportunities and a better future.”
