'In my view, there is some sort of indecision or even chaos inside the regime, because they're not even able to stop this demonstration,' Dr. Phares said.

Former Trump foreign policy adviser Dr. Walid Phares says that the Iranian regime is cracking down on protests against government corruption and the mistreatment of women and girls.

"Iran has a militia that deals with women making sure that Iranian women are basically forced to wear the hijab, which is not just a religious symbol, but really a political symbol, in this case for the jihadist regime in Iran," Dr. Phares said on Monday's edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show.

In September, a young Iranian woman, Mahsa Amini, was murdered by Iran's "morality police" because she showed her hair in violation of the country's hijab rules. This resulted in a lethal beating and subsequent protests all over Iran.

"What happened is that these protests were growing so large and so strong that the international community came out in support of these women and girls," Dr. Phares stated.

Dr. Phares said that due to these protests, there appears to be chaos in the regime amid international support for the ongoing protests.

"In my view, there is some sort of indecision or even chaos inside the regime, because they're not even able to stop this demonstration," Dr. Phares said later. "There are people who have been killed and wounded and tortured, and are in jail. But this is a process that this regime is not going to stop unless it commits war crimes."

The foreign policy expert has written a book titled Iran: An Imperialist Republic and US Policy which goes into further detail about the conflicts and protests in Iran.

The book comes out Dec. 10, 2022.
