West Virginia Hates Sen. Manchin Now -- Daniel Greenfield

by Daniel Greenfield

66.1% had an unfavorable impression of Manchin

Senator Manchin’s dirty ‘Inflation Increase Act’ deal, its betrayal of coal country, army of IRS agents, and inflationary spending has paid off some of his backers and made Bill Gates very happy.

Gates was described as having personally lobbied Senator Manchin and Schumer in “anticipation of a rare moment in which significant federal dollars might be secured for the clean-energy transition.” Billions of those dollars, ripped out of the hands of truck drivers, veterans and small businessmen, will have been “secured” for Gates and his ventures.

The Microsoft founder was described as having “tapped into a relationship with Manchin that he’d cultivated for at least three years”.

“My dialogue with Joe has been going on for quite a while,” the billionaire bragged.

The firm which saw the most Action lobbying cash was KDCR Partners which that year had hired Patrick Hayes. Hayes was Senator Joe Manchin’s outgoing chief of staff and his former legislative director. Bill Gates’ Action lists Hayes as one of its lobbyists.

Now Manchin’s dirty deal may cost him his Senate seat.

A new poll released Wednesday by Jackson County radio station WMOV 1360 AM and Oregon-based Triton Polling and Research found that U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin is vulnerable after his support for the Inflation Reduction Act.

According to the poll, 66.1% of the 762 respondents had an unfavorable impression of Manchin, D-W.Va. Only 26.3% had a favorable impression of Manchin with just 3.8% unsure and 3.6% with no opinion either way.

Vulnerable is a long way from history.

Senate Dems were unprecedentedly vulnerable and then Republicans let campaign consultants bamboozle them into picking terrible candidates in PA, GA, Ohio and Arizona. Manchin struck this deal because, I suspect, he’s thinking about his own exit strategy and spread some strategic favors around. West Virginia would seem to be a no-brainer for the GOP to pick up. But the party is in the middle of a war between different sets of campaign consultants, celebrities and grifters who managed to lose a House seat in Alaska. And seem to be determined to do it all over again. So maybe Manchin doesn’t need to worry too much. Not when the circular firing squad is too busy committing suicide.

But whatever happens, a lot of the people in West Virginia who bought into Manchin as the last Democrat defender of their interests are waking up. An IRS army will do that to you.
