MK Danon warns: If we are hesitant in the response to the Supreme Court, it will be a signal to the European Union that it is possible to continue the illegal activity in Area C.
In two weeks, the Israeli government will have to submit its response to the Supreme Court regarding the eviction of the illegal Bedouin outpost of Khan al-Ahmar and MK Danny Danon says the state of Israel must put an eviction date on the table.
"I would like to remind that this is an illegal settlement of Bedouins in the area of Mishor Adumim, where they settled in a criminal way with funding from the European Union, and for a long time there has been a decision to evacuate Khan al-Ahmar that has not been implemented. Therefore, I am calling from here on my friends in the Likud and our partners to give a very brief response to the court: A date. Give an answer with a date for the eviction of Khan al-Ahmar. There is no need to talk too much, no need to start with postponements, this has already been done by left-wing governments in the past," Danon clarified in an interview with Israel National News.
Danon called on Minister Bezalel Smotrich to be fully involved in the response to the Supreme Court.
"Now is the time to come and say that the takeover of Area C has been stalled, and we are working on this issue and not turning a blind eye as Benny Gantz did in the past. Minister Smotrich demanded to be involved and approve the responses that the new government will give to the court on issues related to settlement, because he knows this issue very well, and I also want to mention that he has authority on the issue of settlement. That's why I expect him [to be involved], and I'm sure he will insist that this time there will be no delays. They won't say two more months, three more, four more, that in practice a date will be set for the evacuation of Khan al-Ahmar."
To the question of whether he really believes that this will happen in light of past precedents, Danon replied, "In the past they found various excuses, but today, in the way our coalition is composed, we follow very clear steps, and we must not blink on the issue of Area C either. We are going to carry out reforms in many different areas, and we will not allow Mahmoud Abbas and his friends to take over the lands of the State of Israel. While there are other reforms going on, we are fighting for our rights at the same time."
"I know the involvement of the European Union in this issue. While in the UN, I also dealt with the funds they transferred to people in Khan al-Ahmar. If we are hesitant with this response, it will send a signal to the European Union that it is possible to continue and increase the illegal activity in areas C. There must be a clear statement from the new government," he added.
"I very much hope that we will see a different reaction from the new government and that Smotrich and his friends, together with my friends from the Likud, will clearly tell the court that we are not playing games - we are evacuating. We told the public very clear things during the election campaign, so I am surprised that the left is surprised by this. But we came to govern. We didn't come here to water plants and sit in the plenum. We came to pass the reforms, we came to change the reality," concluded MK Danon.
