The vote came the same day that House Speaker Mike Johnson met with President Joe Biden and subsequently indicated that his position had not changed on the need for immediate border security measures.

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a resolution condemning President Joe Biden's handling of border security amid an unprecedented surge in illegal crossings.

The lower chamber approved the resolution in a 225-187 vote which included the support of 14 Democrats, The Hill reported. The move follows a congressional visit to border jurisdictions at the beginning of the year.

The vote came the same day that House Speaker Mike Johnson met with President Joe Biden and subsequently indicated that his position had not changed on the need for immediate border security measures. Johnson declared after the meeting that he had insisted on imposing "substantive policy change" to address the influx.

"We documented 64 instances where the president took executive action or his agencies took action to create the current catastrophe that we have at the border. It's a national security and humanitarian catastrophe, and I articulated that to the president in the meeting," Johnson told reporters.

In the Senate, lawmakers have moved to craft an agreement to trade border security concessions for aid to Ukraine for its war with Russia, though the reported terms have drawn scrutiny from conservatives for being to favorable to the Democrats.
