Most cabinet members are only important while in office. Once out of it they pursue their personal petty or corrupt paths and become footnotes, the footnotes drop out of history and they are swiftly forgotten.
Unless they do something noteworthy like enable the mass invasion of the country by millions of illegal aliens.
The good news for Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas is that he now belongs to the ages. He will go down in history as the second cabinet member to be impeached and the first cabinet member to be impeached in almost 150 years.
From 1876.to 2024 is quite a record.
Along with William Bellknap, the only previous cabinet member to be impeached, Mayorkas has undeniably gone down in history, but the real question is whether the damage that he helped cause can be repaired.
An impeachment is a black mark and it will not hold up in a Senate manned by Mayorkas’ compatriots, but it may help refocus public attention on the board after the disastrous attempt at a Senate deal that failed to provide border security and would instead have likely made it worse.
