Obama's hypocrisy - Dr. Haim Shine

by Dr. Haim Shine

The Jewish people, who survived against all odds, know what their interests are and they are not influenced by foreign agents or traitorous advice. After thousands of years in exile, we have returned home to be a free nation in our land and not to serve the interests of the United States in the Middle East, interests that exhibit a complete lack of understanding of the reality in our region.

U.S. President Barack Obama's comments in his recent interview with The Atlantic magazine made me wonder whether he had decided to join the Zionist Union or the Joint Arab List.

It is hard for him to come to terms with the fact that Israel's citizens -- in a free and democratic election -- chose the Right. The United States, both directly and indirectly, made economic and diplomatic efforts to take down Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu -- and those efforts failed. Much to the chagrin of the Americans, Israel is not Panama, Iraq or Afghanistan. West meets East and fails the reading and oral comprehension exam.

Obama's concern for Palestinian children and adults who are delayed for security checks is moving. American humanitarian concern is working overtime when it comes to Israel. Hundreds of thousands of Arabs have been slaughtered and continue to be slaughtered in Syria, Iraq and Yemen each day, and yet there, that American humanitarian concern remains in the deep freeze. Israel has been dealt the heavy hand of a double standard for years.

Obama, just like his fans among the Israeli Left, continues to incessantly distort and recycle Netanyahu's election day comments regarding the high number of Arab voters heading to the polls. The minimum that a defensive democracy can do is call on the public to vote for the future of its country. If Obama really understood Jewish values, he would be aware of the fact that the right to life is a supreme Jewish value, above even Christian compassion. I was touched when Obama said in the interview that he would be around for another 20 years to carry the burden of the outcome of the Iranian nuclear deal.

We will be the ones to carry that burden, while he apologizes. Jewish history is rife with the apologies of various nations around the world for their indifference to our fate and the spilling of our blood. Unfortunately, Obama identifies the Palestinian plight in terms of the distress of African-Americans. That comparison is unfounded. African-Americans do not threaten the lives of other American citizens. Hamas and its agents threaten and murder. Instead of preaching to Israel, Obama would do better to convince PA President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leaders to recognize Israel and stop terrorism -- then there would be no need for checkpoints and we could move forward with true peace.
