Attempted Terror Attack at IDF Checkpoint in Jordan Valley - IDF Blog

by IDF Blog

On Friday, June 26, 2015, a Palestinian gunman attacked the B’kaot Crossing, an IDF checkpoint in the Jordan Valley.

At around 10:00 a.m. a Palestinian driving a vehicle arrived at the Jordan Valley crossing. He asked by the soldiers manning the crossing to open the trunk of his car. “The car looked suspicious,” said Sgt. 1st Class (res.) Amit Elat. “When we asked him to open the trunk, the driver pulled out a weapon and began firing at us. We immediately took cover, and managed to neutralize the terrorist.”

A large-scale terror attack was thwarted because the soldiers quickly recognized the threat and responded accordingly. Col. Ofir Levius, Commander of the Jordan Valley Division, was called to the scene and conducted an investigation of the incident. “In every encounter with an armed terrorist, we expect our soldiers to behave in a confident and professional manner,” explained Col. Levius.

The Jordan Valley Division is charged with the protection of Israel’s Eastern Border. Though there is some terrorist activity in the region, it is considered quiet, and the incident was out of the ordinary.

Our forces remain prepared to face any and every threat in the region nonetheless.
