Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu hopes to announce that he has succeeded in cobbling together a deal for reconciliation with Turkey, to end the crisis between the countries that began after Operation Cast Lead in 2008-9 and worsened after the Mavi Marmara flotilla crisis.

The deal will reportedly include normalization of relations with Turkey and a return of ambassadors to Turkey and Jerusalem. Israel will set up a fund to compensate the families of the terrorists who were killed aboard the Marmara and Turkey will cancel all lawsuits against the IDF soldiers who took over that ship.

Turkey has taken back its demand that Israel remove its blockade of Gaza, but it will be allowed to transfer humanitarian aid to Gaza through the Ashdod port.

Former minister Gideon Sa’ar attacked the deal Sunday. “Israel should pay Turkey compensation for the Marmara? I hope the reports are not true,” he tweeted. “But if they are – this is a national humiliation and an invitation to Israel’s haters to launch more flotillas and more libels.”

Israel has taken back its demand that senior Hamas commanders be exiled from Turkey, but Turkey has pledged that Hamas’s delegation in Turkey will not be involved in terror against Israel.

The deal will not include the return of the bodies of Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul Hy”d, according ot a senior diplomatic source in Jerusalem.
