Merkel's Political Follies - Joseph Puder

by Joseph Puder

Why the German chancellor's generosity towards Muslim migrants may have sealed her political fate.

The flood of over a million refugees/immigrants that entered Germany recently, mostly from the Middle East and predominantly Muslims, created political mayhem.  The immigration issue is affecting the chances of Angela Merkel to be re-elected to a fourth term as Chancellor of Germany.  Her liberal stance on immigration has spawned the emergence of the anti-immigrant party, Alternative for Germany (AfD), which has defeated her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in two regional/state elections. On September 4, 2016, in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Chancellor Angela Merkel’s home state) State elections, the CDU was relegated to third place with 19% of the vote, down from 23.1% in the previous election.  The election result was a sharp rebuke of Merkel’s immigration policies.  The AfD came second, with 21.9% of the vote, benefitting from a pervasive mood in Germany that the inflow of largely Muslim immigrants is changing the character of the German state.  The left-of-center Social Democratic Party (SPD), although remaining the top vote-getter, fell from 35.6% of the vote in the last elections to 30.2%.

In the city-state of Berlin, one of the 16 states of federal Germany, AfD scored another victory.  Last weekend’s elections in which the party received 14.1% of the vote brought another large stream of CDU voters to the ranks of AfD.  In the Berlin elections, the right-of-center CDU stands to get 17.5% of the vote down from 23.3% in the last election (2011), according to the ballot sampling by the German TV station ARD.  SPD will again run the Berlin state government, albeit probably without the CDU, and in a coalition government with the Left party and the Greens.  SDP lost almost 7% of the vote, declining from 28% to 21.5%.  Berlin has become the tenth state legislature in which the three year (formed in 2013) old AfD party will be represented.

Given Germany’s sordid history in the last century, it is perhaps easy to understand Merkel’s motives.  She wants the prosperous, democratic Germany to project its new humanitarian values of tolerance, diversity, and multiculturalism, which has become the European Union standard.  Except for one thing.  The immigrants that Merkel has admitted into her country carry with them the virus of anti-Semitism, intolerance, and potential for violence, which was already demonstrated during the last New Year’s Eve celebration in Cologne, Germany.  Muslim immigrants of Arab descent separated 1,000 women from their friends, then sexually assaulted, groped, intimidated and robbed them at the city’s central train station.  Since then, numerous terror attacks by Muslim immigrants shouting “Allah’hu Akbar” have occurred.

In the month of July, 2016 alone, four violent attacks on German citizens occurred, perpetrated by Muslim immigrants in Germany.  On July 19, 2016, a 17 year-old Afghan-Muslim refugee attacked passengers with an axe on a train in Wurzburg, Germany, injuring several people, some critically.  He was shot by the policy while trying to escape.  A few days later, on July 22, 2016, an 18 year-old Iranian Muslim with German citizenship went on a shooting rampage at the Olympia shopping mall in Munich, killing nine people and injuring 35 others.  On July 24, 2016, a Syrian refugee killed a woman with a machete and injured five others in the German city of Reutlingen. A day later, on July 25, 2016, in the Bavarian city of Ansbach, a 27-year old Syrian, who had been rejected asylum, set off a bomb containing metal fragments designed for maximum injuries. The blast injured at least 12 people.  The Syrian immigrant/terrorist had earlier tried to enter a music festival where about 2,500 people gathered but was denied entry. He then exploded the bomb in front of a nearby restaurant.  This one week of terror left Germany stunned and fearful that another incident could occur anyplace, at any time.

What is ironic about Merkel’s generosity toward Muslim immigrants and asylum-seekers is that it is misplaced.  She has been seeking to rehabilitate Germany from its Nazi past.  The main victims of Hitler’s Nazi regime were the Jews, and the Holocaust was perpetrated by Germans and their helpers on Six Million European Jews, including a defenseless million and one-half Jewish children - not Muslims.  According to Pew Research Center Fact Tank, in 2010, the Muslim population in Germany numbered 4,760,000 or 5.8% of the population.  That does not include more than a million recent arrivals. The longtime Muslims living in Germany already harbored anti-Semitic feelings in spite of stringent laws against anti-Semitic expression.  The new arrivals have been indoctrinated in the Muslim Brotherhood mosques in Syria, as well as the Assad regime in Damascus, with hatred towards Jews and Israel.  While it doesn’t only pertain to refugees from Syria, it is true for other Muslim immigrants as well, including Palestinians, North-Africans and Afghanis.  All of them have been brainwashed with hatred toward Jews but also against what Muslims term “crusaders” or Christians.

Merkel’s goodwill toward Muslim refugees and economic migrants will more than likely turn into an unprecedented wave of anti-Semitic incidents.  Watchdog groups in France and the Netherlands reported that Muslim immigrants who arrived in the 1950’s onward and their descendants are responsible for most of violent anti-Semitic incidents today.  The situation with the recent arrivals is even more serious given their upbringing and violent culture.  Josef Schuster, head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany has asked for reassurances that Chancellor Merkel would take Jewish concerns seriously.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) reported on January 29th, 2016 that an intern at the AJC Berlin office, Yonathan Shay, documented for Die Welt his visit to a refugee center, showing several graffiti drawings of anti-Jewish and Nazi symbols drawn by its Muslim residents. “It’s very important for people who didn’t grow up in a democracy to forget what they’ve learned.”  Shay faulted Germany for trying to atone for the Holocaust by “accepting all the refugees of the world,” and he added, “Jews will be put in danger if there are so many (Muslim) refugees who hate them.”

Klaus Brinkbaumer, Der Spiegel editorial writer, in a September 13, 2016 piece titled “Navigating the Post-Fact Era” has written that “Angela Merkel has become a victim of a mood.” He added, “Our country is changing, with a feeling of uncertainty having become a paramount emotion these days, combined with a sense of indignity.”  Brinkbaumer attributes Merkel’s failures to the government’s loss of control of Germany’s borders for eight weeks.  Merkel has admitted to “mistakes made,” but maintains that Germany has “a duty to take in people in need.”

Dr. Peter Hammond, in his book “Slavery, Terrorism and Islam,” pointed out that the “takeover of a country begins when the Muslim population reaches a critical mass, and they begin to agitate for various privileges.  Open, free, democratic societies are particularly vulnerable. When politically correct, tolerant and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their privileges, some other components tend to creep in.”  Hammond added, “When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as means of complaint about their conditions (Paris car burning). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprising and threats (Amsterdam-Mohammad cartoons).”

Angela Merkel and the other EU elitist have failed to understand the threat radicalized Islam poses today.  The AfD party warning about Muslim immigrants’ threat to European and German culture and demography respectively has resonated with the commonsense people of Germany and Europe.  Karl Martel, the Frankish ruler, halted the Muslim invasion of the European heartland in 732 CE by force of arms, and thus prevented the Islamization of Europe. Today Merkel’s Germany and Europe are inviting radical Islam in.
