Republicans widely condemned the raid as an act of political partisanship
Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan on Sunday told Fox News that 14 whistleblowers from within the FBI have come forward with concerns about the Department of Justice's alleged political bias following the FBI's raid on former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate last week.
“Fourteen FBI agents have come to our office as whistleblowers, and they are good people. There are lots of good people in the FBI. It’s the top that is the problem," the Ohio Republican told the outlet. “Some of these good agents are coming to us, telling us … what’s going on... the political nature now of the Justice Department," he added.
The Bureau last week raided Trump's Florida estate seeking classified documents he may have removed from the White House. Trump confirmed the raid in a string of posts on his social media platform, Truth Social.
"The are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents," Trump said in a statement. "Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before."
Republicans widely condemned the effort as an act of political partisanship, with party leaders promising investigations into the raid should the GOP seize the majority in either chamber of Congress following the midterms.
"I've seen enough," House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy wrote on Truth Social. "The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization. When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned. Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar."
"If I’m in the majority, and I’m chairman of the Judiciary Committee, again, I intend to pursue all of these things until we get to the bottom of it," Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley said Saturday.
Prior to the raid, the FBI battled two separate sets of whistleblowers attesting to political bias within the Department of Justice and the FBI.
One contingent alleged that Washington Field Office Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault showed political bias in his handling of investigations by withholding the partisan nature of evidence against Trump to convince his superiors to approve an investigation. He further allegedly worked to falsely discredit evidence against President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden.
A second group asserted that former Assistant Director of the FBI Counterterrorism Division and Executive Assistant Director of the National Security Branch Jill Sanborn pressured her subordinates to reclassify cases as "domestic violent extremism" (DVEs) to provide statistical support to the Biden administration's narrative that the issue presented the "greatest threat" to the United States.
